Athletics HistoryOriginally a teacher training school formed in 1851 by the

Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, St. Francis Normal School became a four-year state-approved institution in 1936. During that year, it merged with Immaculate Conception Junior College to form Marian College. In late 1936, the Sisters of St. Francis purchased the former James Allison estate, “Riverdale,” as a site for Marian College. In 1937, the college moved to Indianapolis after securing a state charter and the purchase of the Allison estate, home to the famed Allison Mansion.

While athletics was not established until the institution became co-educational in 1954-55, the Department of Physical Education mandated, in 1940, a one-year sports participation requirement for women to graduate. By 1943, sports clubs began to form, offering a variety of choices for women. Swimming, ice skating, horseback riding, archery, and tennis were mainstays and led to the Marian College Student Athletic Association and its annual “play day.” In 1948, the college began an expansion program that included the building of Clare Hall, the original gymnasium, and Marian Hall. In 1954, the school became the fi rst co-educational Catholic college in Indiana and, with the development of the co-ed institution, varsity athletics were introduced.

The Marian College Department of Athletics was born with the sport of men’s basketball being the fi rst offi cial varsity sport on campus in 1954-55. A member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Knights opened that fi rst season with a 3-8 overall record. Through the end of the 1950s, Marian College added the sports of baseball (1956), men’s golf (1957), men’s tennis (1958), and men’s cross country (1960). Marian College athletics, under the guidance of the fi rst athletic director and

men’s basketball coach, Walt Fields, fl ourished with its fi ve sports. Cleon Reynolds assumed control of the department in 1963 and governed athletics until Ed Schilling took control for fi ve years. Marian College added just one sport in the 1970s, women’s volleyball, and stayed stagnant until 1975-76 when head basketball coach and athletic director John Grimes took control of the department.

Coach Grimes’ 26-year tenure as athletic director saw the athletic department expand from fi ve to 17 sports and join the Mid-Central College Conference in Indiana in 1988-89. In addition, Grimes led Knights basketball to three NAIA national tournaments and three MCC championships. Coach Grimes retired from his athletic director duties in 2005 after earning the distinction of NAIA Region VIII Athletic Director of the Year. A new era was established due to his diligence as Marian College hired its fi rst full-time athletic director in 2005-06.

Joe Haklin assumed control of Knights athletics in 2005-06 and has overseen the development of the football program and has provided sound governance over Marian College’s 21 varsity sports since his hiring in October 2005. He has made great contributions during his tenure. He was an essential fi gure in the development of the Physical Education Center expansion in 2006-07 and the Marian College multi-purpose athletic facility, now St.Vincent Health Field, which includes an artifi cial football and soccer playing surface, an eight-lane track as well as the development of the new varsity softball fi eld and tennis courts.

On July 1, 2009, Marian College became Marian University and we are building a great Catholic university.

Building a Great Catholic University!

“Financial aid was a determining factor in where I could attend college. My scholarships and grants from Marian University gave me the opportunity to attend the college that was in my best interest, where I could receive a quality education and experience in the clinical realm. Marian University has given me the necessary skills and confidence to practice as a future registered nurse. I could not ask for more.”

Kimberly Jacobi graduated in the spring of 2009 with a BSN degree. While attending school, Jacobi was a 21st Century Scholar, peer tutor, and member of the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society. Jacobi has passed her NCLEX and is ready to embark on an exciting new career in the field of nursing.

Academic SuccessSuccess in the classroom is essential for a Marian University

student-athlete. Our coaches do not just coach their teams on the playing surface, but also teach their athletes knowledge in the mind, body, spirit tradition.

Nearly 400 student-athletes passed through the gymnasium in the Physical Education Center; the playing surfaces at Marian University’s baseball, softball, and soccer fi elds as well as George C. Grosskopf Stadium at Pike High School; and the competition track and cross country courses in Indiana in 2008-09. Twenty-seven of these athletes were honored by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics as NAIA Scholar-Athletes for their performances in the classroom. In the past three seasons, 60 Knights have picked up the honor and continue to perform both on the fi eld and in the classroom. Marian University has had 140 student-athletes honored for their academic prowess since 1982.

The NAIA Scholar-Athlete award is given to an individual who has attained junior standing and carries at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

Knights athletics also had eight of its programs honored by the NAIA as Scholar Teams in 2008-09. The number of programs is the second-most in school history and includes six women’s programs. Men’s and women’s tennis and women’s cross country are three-time Scholar Teams while softball, women’s golf, women’s soccer, men’s cross country, and women’s basketball each became two-time recipients of the award. The Scholar Team accolade is given to a program that has maintained a 3.00 cumulative grade point average as a team during the entire academic year.

Congratulations to those athletic teams and individuals who strive to promote the mission of Marian University athletics both on the fi eld and in the classroom.

The Knights have proven that Marian University is teaching the whole person: mind, body, and spirit; through their performance in the classroom and on the fi elds of play.

Athletic SuccessSince joining the Mid-Central College Conference in 1988-89,

Marian University has enjoyed success in numerous sports at varying stages of competition. The Knights have won 34 Mid-Central College Conference titles including 10 in men’s golf, eight in baseball, four in men’s tennis, and three in men’s basketball. All three of the MCC Champion basketball teams have advanced to the NAIA national tournament including an Elite Eight run in 2000-01 and a Sweet Sixteen run in 2003-04.

Twenty-one Knights have been named NAIA All-American and 284 Knights have been named to the All-Conference fi rst team since 1988-09. Twelve of them were honored as the MCC’s best player. In 2008-09, Marian University had 19 athletes named fi rst team All-Conference in their respective sports.

After picking up its fi rst-ever victory in 2007, the Marian University football team earned its fi rst-ever winning season in 2008. The Knights fi nished 7-4 and received votes in the NAIA National Poll for the fi rst time in school history. The Knights also earned their fi rst-ever victory over a Top 25-ranked opponent in McKendree University on September 13, 2008.

Marian University cycling earned its 11th collegiate national track cycling championship in Colorado Springs. The Knights earned their best-ever fi nish (seventh) at the spring road nationals and freshman Sinead Miller earned the fi rst-ever road national championship by a female in Marian University history. The Knights cycling tradition continues into 2009-10 with more than 30 cyclists expected to par-ticipate for Marian University.

The Marian University women’s soccer team earned its fi rst-ever Mid-Central College Conference championship in 2008 after the best season in school history (16-1-2 and 7-0-1 in the MCC). Junior golfer Angela Gauck earned her second career NAIA All-America honor after another stellar season on the links.

The fi rsts continue to roll in for Knights athletics and the football program will have its fi rst-ever game on campus at St.Vincent Health Field in 2009-10.

A strong recruiting season puts the Knights in a place to contend for conference championships in 2009-10.

Baseball

Kurt Guldner enters his 17th season at the helm of the Marian University baseball program.

Coach Guldner has led the Knights to eight Mid-Central College Conference championships and has been named MCC Coach of the Year on seven (fi ve for baseball and two for women’s soccer) occasions.

He is the all-time winningest baseball coach in Marian University history with a career record of 443-351-4 in his 16 years. Guldner coached two-time NAIA All-American Wes Hayden and coached 2000 NAIA Region VIII Player of the Year in Craig Prifogle. He has coached four MCC Players of the Year and 37 All-Conference fi rst team selections.

Guldner also coached the all-time leading scorer in women’s soccer history, Rana Hoffbauer. She had one of the most dominant seasons on record in 2003 (30 goals). Most recently, he coached the women’s soccer team to back-to-back MCC championships in 2008 and 2009.

Guldner earned a bachelor of science degree from Marian College in 1981. He resides in Indianapolis with his wife, Brenda.

BASEBALL OUTLOOKIn his 17th season at the helm of the Marian University baseball team,

head coach Kurt Guldner is looking to get the team back to playing Marian University baseball. The Knights went 24-28 last season and were 10-14 in Mid-Central College Conference play. “We are looking to get back to Marian University baseball,” said Guldner. “We are not satisfi ed with the past few years and we are looking to get back to playing winning baseball this season.”While 16 return from 2009, the coaching staff has brought in eight

newcomers for 2010. Three seniors will anchor the roster, while six juniors, seven sophomores, seven freshmen, and one junior transfer complete the roster for the Knights.Senior pitchers Richard Parrish and Patrick Midla will anchor a pitching

staff that Coach Guldner feels is much deeper and loaded with talent than in the last few years. Parrish fi nished last season with a 6-5 record and a 4.01 earned-run-average in 13 starts. He logged a team-high 83 innings, while Midla was 4-4 in 58 innings over nine starts. Coach Guldner places this duo at or near the top of the rotation. Senior Tony Goodpaster will be looked to for a signifi cant contribution on the mound after spending two seasons as a utility player. The junior class is led by fi rst baseman Todd Ungru after he led the team

in batting with a .350 average last season. However, Coach Guldner sees Ungru as a threat out of the bullpen this season. Junior Bobby Willis is one of the most sound defensive shortstops that Coach Guldner has seen, but he will expect more of a contribution at the plate from Willis this season. Junior Cory Emmons had a breakout fall after spending two seasons in a tough spot as a go-to pinch hitter. Junior Jake Mullis will see time on the rubber as well as in the outfi eld. Coach Guldner expects a big year out of a seasoned junior class.Sophomores Evan Schludecker, Jared Mills, and James Storms will

be expected to contribute at the plate and in the fi eld as they lead the sophomore class. Ben Walters and Neil Hackett were solid starters on the mound as freshmen, and Coach Guldner is expecting another strong season out of them. Sophomores Caleb Small and Jeff Marschand made small contributions last season, but Coach Guldner is expecting a lot out of them in 2010.Coach Guldner has high hopes for the freshmen class this season as he

has added speed and strength at the plate to the mix. Freshman Brett Metcalf is a newcomer that Guldner is expecting a lot out of, but he is not alone. Freshman Joel Solis has been a pleasant surprise through the fall, while freshmen Dustin Hileman, Jordan Long, and Chad Schumann will be expected to contribute this season. Freshman Matt Back is a pitcher that Coach Guldner has high expectations for as he is a talented lefthander. Junior transfer Austin Gibson is a catcher that Coach Guldner expects to bring power to the plate and solid defense behind the dish.Coach Guldner is committed to bringing Knights baseball back to the

level the alumni and supporters are used to in 2010.

Men’s and Women’s Road CyclingROAD CYCLING OUTLOOKComing off their 12th collegiate national track cycling championship, the

Marian University cycling team is looking to build on its seventh-place fi nish at the 2009 collegiate national road cycling championships. Head coach Dean Peterson has expanded the program to include competition in the collegiate national cyclo-cross championships as well as the collegiate national mountain bike championships in 2009. However, with 12 track titles, the Knights are looking for their fi rst-ever team national title on the road.Peterson has done nothing but continue to recruit the top talent and this

season he has added seven freshmen to the already talented corps of riders from last season. Those seven newcomers are added to the mix that includes fi ve seniors, six juniors, and seven sophomores. This is one of the most talented group of riders in team history, and Coach Peterson is looking for big things this spring.Seniors David Williams, Sierra Siebenlist, Matt Jones, and Rebecca

Finley will anchor the team in 2010. Williams won the men’s omnium title at track nationals, while Finley and Siebenlist were part of the women’s team pursuit national champions in the fall. Jones is a strong rider who coach Peterson is expecting a big contribution from this road season.Anna Sklorenko and Megan Somerville lead a junior class that has won a

national title in each of the three years at Marian University. Both riders were key contributors to the success of the program at the 2009 fall championships. Junior Alex Wieseler was vital to the success of the Knights this past fall and will be expected to contribute this spring. Junior Taylor Brown will also be expected to contribute during the spring season.Sophomore Sinead Miller won the fi rst women’s road national title in Marian

University history last season, and Coach Peterson sees nothing but success for her this season as well. Sophomores Adam Leibovitz and Joe Kukolla are highly touted second-year riders who should give a signifi cant contribution to this spring campaign. Sophomore Zach McBride was well on his way to a great fi nish at road nationals last season before a crash abruptly ended his ride. However, a full comeback from injury has enabled Davis to sit as one of the team favorites. Sophomores Rob Bush and Peter Deucher will also provide the Knights a lift this spring.Coach Peterson is excited about the freshmen class and their ability on the

road. Freshman Jackie Kurth had an outstanding track season, and she is expected to increase the depth of the women’s squad and contend for a road national title. Coach Peterson expects big things from each of the freshmen, but sees Weston Luzadder and Sam Stone as breakout riders in 2010. Sopho-more Cynthia Lakatosh and freshman Anna Young joined the Knights in the spring, and Coach Peterson sees them as a highly talented duo capable of great things in road competition. The scene is set for the Knights to seek their fi rst-ever team road national

championship, and Coach Peterson believes that with the talent level on this team; anything is possible.

Men’s GolfMEN’S GOLF OUTLOOK

Coming off a fi fth-place fi nish at last season’s Mid-Central College Conference Tournament, the Marian University men’s golf team is searching for the form that has brought 10 MCC championships and seven NAIA Region VIII championships back to Indianapolis.

After losing only two seniors to graduation last season, head coach John Shelton has high hopes for this season saying, “in my 20 years of coaching, this is the most talented team I’ve ever had.” Coach Shelton has brought in three freshmen and one transfer to add to the eight returning letter winners. The team is made up of two seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and three freshmen.

Providing strong senior leadership for the Knights will be Luke Weber and Nick Olsen. Weber fi nished last spring season with a 22nd-place fi nish at the MCC championship and has a stroke average of 79.0, while Olsen has a stroke average of 79.8. Also returning for MU is sophomore Sean Jones. Jones fi nished the season third at the MCC championship and was named All-MCC with a stroke average of 75.3. The Knights will be looking to the incoming freshmen class to give a signifi cant contribution.

Freshman Trey Pfund won his fi rst career tournament at the Bethel Invitational with a score of 142 (73-68) in fall competition, and has a stroke average of 74.2. Newcomers Robbi Koors, Preston Smith, and Mac Fiely have also had a very strong fall seasons, with stroke averages of 75.6, 75.7, and 78.3, respectively. Koors fi nished tied for third at the Bethel College Invitational, and also tied for fi fth at the Lindsey Wilson Invitational. Fiely did not see much action in the fall due to commitments with men’s basketball, but Coach Shelton is excited about his ability on the links.

Coach Shelton also expects signifi cant contributions from juniors Charles Babcock and Cameron McKinney, as well as sophomores J.P. Hyden and Brandin Newton this season.

The Knights had a very strong fall season as a team. They won the Ohio Dominican Invitational where they set a new 54-hole school record with an 873 (296-288-289), and they defeated 14 other teams by 27 strokes. They also won the Bethel Invitational and placed second at the Lindsey Wilson Invitational. In the other three contests of the season, they fi nished in the top half.

MU is looking to climb into the top 15 in the NAIA this year led by a strong group of underclassmen and some experienced returners. They are in the hunt for their 11th MCC title, and another trip to the NAIA National Tournament.

John Shelton is in his 20th season as the head coach of the men’s golf program and is no stranger to success on the links.

Shelton has led Marian University to 10 MCC championships since the program’s inception in 1989-90. He has also guided the Knights to six NAIA Region VIII championships and has been

named MCC Coach of the Year on nine separate occasions and the NAIA Region VIII Coach of the Year on six occasions.

Coach Shelton has been an ambassador for the game of golf since he has served as president of the NAIA Men’s Golf Coaches Association in 2003 and the NAIA coach at the World University Games in 2004.

In addition to the championships and the honors, Coach Shelton has also been an advocate of character within his program and throughout the NAIA. He has coached fi ve NAIA Scholar-Athletes and four NAIA All-Americans so his student-athletes not only excel on the links but in the classroom as well.

He has coached two NAIA Region VIII Tournament medalists in Stephen Ford (2006-07) and Zach Wolma (2004-05), and seven MCC Tournament medalists. He has also coached 22 All-NAIA Region VIII team selections and 45 All-Mid-Central College Conference team selections. Additionally, he coached the third-place fi nisher and the runner-up at the Indiana State Amateur Open as well as the low amateur at the Indiana Open.

Two of his athletes competed in the fi nals of the Indiana Golf Association Match Play Championship in 2006 with Stephen Ford earning the title and current student-athlete Jacob Murray picking up runner-up honors.

Coach Shelton is also the dean for fi nancial aid and enrollment at Marian University and graduated from Indiana University with a master of arts in 1990 and a bachelor of arts in 1976.

Coach Shelton and his wife reside in Indianapolis.

Women’s Golf

Brett Cope is in his fi fth season as the head coach for women’s golf. Cope has been a member of the Marian University Department of Athletics for 19 years and has served in a variety of capacities.

Cope is currently the chairman of the Department of Health and Physical Education

at Marian University and serves as an assistant professor. He has spent the last four years in that capacity.

Cope served as director of sports information and assistant director of athletics from 2004-06. In those capacities, Cope was responsible for the media coverage of the Department of Athletics. He served as the primary media liaison for the 2003-04 NAIA Tournament Sweet Sixteen team and also assisted former director of athletics John Grimes in the day-to-day operations of Knights athletics.

During his tenure as sports information director, Cope also served as the sports information director for the Mid-Central College Conference from 2000-04. He was responsible for maintaining current records, statistics, and information for the conference as well as maintaining the conference web site.

Prior to his service as an administrator, Cope served as the head athletic trainer for Marian University from 1991 through 1999 when he added the sports information director title to his resume. Cope also served as the head athletic trainer at Ben Davis High School and Brownsburg High School as well as a staff athletic trainer at The Center for Hip and Knee Surgery.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in 1982 and master of science degree in 1984 from Indiana University-Bloomington.

WOMEN’S GOLF OUTLOOK

Head coach Brett Cope has high hopes for the 16th-ranked Marian

University women’s golf team. This is the highest ranking in school

history, and the Knights have one goal in mind: the NAIA National

Tournament. Last season, the women placed 2nd in the NAIA Unaffi l-

iated Tournament, and were just inches from qualifying for the NAIA

National Tournament as a team. After winning their fi rst-ever team

tournament title this fall, Coach Cope is looking to press into the

NAIA National Tournament for the fi rst time as a team this spring.

Coach Cope will lead a seasoned group of golfers that includes

fi ve seniors, fi ve juniors, one sophomore, and three freshmen. The

Knights are led by returning senior Angela Gauck, who is coming off

a sixth-place fi nish at last year’s nationals, and was named NAIA All-

America and a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete. This was her third

straight top-10 fi nish at nationals after she placed ninth in 2008 and

third in 2007. She was also named an NAIA All-American in 2008.

The Knights not only have high expectations for Gauck this season,

but they have a very strong group of golfers with four other returning

seniors including Kristen Welker who fi nished 10th at the Hanover

Fall Invitational. The Knights will also be looking to the underclass-

men for a strong contribution. Freshman Leah Miller had a very

strong fall season and the Knights are going to be looking to her to

put together some solid rounds of golf this spring.

The Knights are looking to improve on their fi nish last season by

taking the NAIA Unaffi liated Tournament Championship and earning

their fi rst berth into the NAIA National Tournament as a team.

Softball

In his seventh year at Marian University, Scott Fleming serves as softball head coach, an assistant coach for men’s basketball, and intramural director for the Department of Athletics. During his tenure with Marian College, Fleming also spent seven years as an admission counselor and as an assistant director of admission. He also served as a volun-teer coach for men’s basketball for six years and for

women’s basketball for one year.Scott has served as the head coach of softball for the past six seasons

and has compiled an impressive 164-94 overall record including a 65-29 record in Mid-Central College Conference play. Last season, he was named MCC Coach of the Year after guiding the Knights to the MCC Tournament title. He has also coached 12 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the 2004 MCC Player of the Year, and 16 All-Conference selections in his fi ve seasons at the helm. The team also earned trips to the NAIA Regional Tournament in three of his fi ve seasons.

Fleming is a 1989 graduate of Marian University who resides in Indianapolis with his wife and two sons.

SOFTBALL OUTLOOKThe 2009 Mid-Central College Conference Tournament champion Marian

University softball team earned a 37-9 record, the second-best all-time, and fi nished as runners-up in the MCC with a 14-2 record. Slated to fi nish second in a preseason poll, the Knights lost three key starters but will return seven who had signifi cant roles as starters in the 2009 campaign.

The top loss for the 2010 season is pitcher Heather Pieper. Pieper fi nished 19-4 record for the Knights last year. “We’re going to be looking to fi ll the void that comes with the loss of Pieper,” said head coach Scott Fleming.

The Knights also graduated four year-starter and All-Conference MCC pick Samantha Hypes and 2008 All-MCC pick Amanda Teagardin. However, Fleming is confi dent that the returners he has will be able to step in and contribute.

Returning is two-year All-Conference selection and Player of the Year runner-up junior Mallory Ortwein. She had a team-high 12 homeruns for the Knights in 2009, while driving in a team-high 41 runs. Ortwein started all 38 games she played for the Knights, and should be 100 percent after coming off knee surgery. Also returning is sophomore Kelsey Uebelhor. Uebelhor, All-MCC Newcomer of the Year in 2009, started 44 games for the Knights and had a .364 batting average. Senior Sandy Corum, a two-time All-Conference selection, will be back on the mound for the Knights. Corum went 14-1 in 2009 and is the team’s top returning pitcher. Junior Jessica Slayton, a two-time All-Conference selection, will return as the leading hitter for the Knights.

Also returning for 2010 is senior Melissa Coutz, who batted over .300 with 23 RBI, and junior Chelsea Bell, who also hit over .300 with 25 RBI.

A trio of outfi elders, including senior Chelsea Young and sophomores Brittany Camp and Elizabeth Campbell, are expected to be major contributors. Young had three homeruns for the Knights in 2009 and Coach Fleming also plans to utilize Camp at second base.

Experience behind the plate will come from senior Angie Such and sophomore Jillian Ayres. Coach Fleming will look to the off-season improvements of junior Kristi Roth and sophomore Emily Pusti based on their contributions in the fall.

Five newcomers were added to the Knights line-up and Fleming is “really excited with this group.” “I think we have a really good group of freshmen,” he added. “They all had a good fall season for us.”

Pitcher and third baseman Emily Gwaltney comes from a championship program and will be a great all-around addition of pitching and hitting. Amy Tamer and Amanda Tutrow both contributed to their state fi nalist high school team. Fleming will look to Tamer to help fi ll the void of Pieper and hopes that Tutrow will adjust well to a fall shoulder surgery. Helen Rogers will contribute in multiple places for the Knights and was the team’s leading hitter in the fall. Fleming will look for Brandy Roth to bring speed into the Knights lineup.

Overall, Coach Fleming believes the conference will be stronger and more competitive this year, but the goal is to challenge for the conference title and to repeat as MCC tournament champions. The Knights will open the 2010 campaign with a trip to Kissimmee, Florida on March 8-13 before returning for their home opener against Calumet-St. Joseph at 3 p.m. on March 16.

Mike Henderson serves as the volunteer assistant coach and is a 2007 M-Club Wall of Fame inductee.

Mike founded the softball program and guided it to success as a young varsity program. Mike was also an assistant coach for men’s basketball and retired from active coaching in 1999.

Mike resides in Brownsburg, Indiana.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

MEN’S OUTLOOKReturning from an eighth-place fi nish in last year’s Mid-Central College Conference

Championships, the Marian University Knights men’s track and fi eld team is looking for an improvement for the 2009-10 season. Head coach Dave Roberts has a good feeling that they will break the top half of the conference this season.

Coach Roberts will lead a squad of 36 young men including 12 newcomers and 26 returners into battle this season. The Knights will be led by two returning seniors, Kyle Murray, who placed 19th at Nationals in the 5000 meters, and current record holder in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Michael Foerster, who fi nished ninth at Nationals last season. The Knights will be looking to some newcomers to score points this season. The Knights will also be looking to fi rst year thrower Robert Alderman, who redshirted last year, to give a signifi cant contribution to the team. Sophomore Dana Harrell, who is a transfer from the University of Saint Francis (IN), will be running sprints and relays. Harrell is predicted to fi n-ish strong in the 100m and 4x100 relay. Freshmen Keith Pavlish will give the Knights the boost they need in the pole vault this spring.

Coach Roberts is excited to see how this season unfolds, and is hoping everyone can stay healthy and give their full effort. He says if everyone works like he knows they can then only good things can happen this season.

WOMEN’S OUTLOOKThe Marian University women’s track and fi eld team will welcome 11 newcomers in

hopes to improve on a ninth-place fi nish in the Mid-Central College Conference last season. According to head coach David Roberts, “the key is to get people comfortable with their roles on the team.”

In addition to the 11 newcomers, MU will return 14 letter winners including senior Lyndy Errett, who as a 2006-07 All-Conference selection and National qualifi er, after a recent knee surgery. Errett threw a team-best last season in the shot put (11.63 meters), javelin (18.69 meters), and the discus (33.35 meters).

Also returning are juniors Adrienne Shepherd and Emily Miller, who have a potential to score points in the distance events for the Knights.

The loss of the Knights’ number one sprinter Erika Dobbs will open the door for freshmen newcomers Amy Walker, Jaymee Schambers, Kristen Bogue, and junior transfer Patrice Fernandes to contribute. Both Schambers and Fernandes will look to make an impact in hurdles for Marian University.

Coach Roberts has hopes that the Knights will produce individual national qualifi ers this season. The Knights have high expectations coming into 2010 and Coach Roberts is hoping they will be able to deliver this season.
