CLEAN MARINA COMMUNITY OUTREACH
THE CLEAN MARINA SITE
By some industry estimates there are as many as 18,000 waterfront sites which service recreational boating. 12-14,000 existing sites, and 4,000 sites under development, repair or permitting. Currently, clean marina designations comprise less than 8% of all sites.
The first Clean Marina program was implemented in Annapolis, Maryland in 1998.
Marinas have become family destinations and influence the total waterfront environment. Restaurants, marine shops, clubhouses, boat drystack -- all affect the operation of clean marinas.
Clean marina commitments help reach beyond clean water programs. In over 19 states and nearly 1,000 waterfront sites, marinas are premier locations for waterway education and community involvement.
We would like to enlist your involvement in promoting and celebrating clean waterfront development.
BOAT & SAFETY TRAINING
Instruction by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary about wearing a life vest and boating safety.
Participation by local powerboat and sailing associations help the Coast Guard.
Waterfront hazards and fire safety demonstrations are highlighted
Each child boater will be given Treasure Hunt Questions about boating and the local waterway to answer on the boat trip.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Waterfront Education Programs provide examples that marinas are worthy stewards of the waterway.
Information booths about clean water technologies, clean marinas and local environmental issues.
Marina trade associations and local non-profits are forming alliances to educate the community about safe and accessible waterways.
THE BOAT TRIP
A Special Boat Trip for Special Kids
Kids with special needs rarely have the chance to enjoy the pleasure of boating, fishing from a boat, or the excitement of the local waterway.
Marina Day Kids offers children (ages 6-16) from sponsored agencies instruction about boating safety and teamwork, waterway history and environmental respect.
Typical boat trip events include up to 80 children at each site (and 1 adult for every 4 children)
Enjoy the Waterway – Enjoy the Day
VOLUNTEERS
This event is run by volunteers
The boat trip is a Marina Day event which encourages a partnership with the Association of Marina Industries, Discover Boating, Clean Marina programs, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, local boat owners and participating local non-profits.
All agencies and programs are properly registered as 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations with the Internal Revenue Service.
Each fund raiser will spend less than 10% of the proceeds from the event on organizational or administration costs.
