M.E.S. HISTORY(limited to D.F. propulsion)

ME.S. started the gas carriers design in 1986, being itsChairman Giorgio La Valle experienced since 1978 in thisspecific market.

About 60 ships (gas carriers) have been built with M.E.S. design, for a total of more than 100 ships realized(chemical, etc...)

Since 2009 M.E.S. works constantly for WARTSILA on the Dual Fuel Propulsion systems for different kind of ships.

A significant co-operation was with FINCANTIERI for the design of the dual fuel Ro-Pax «F-A-Gauthier». Severalconsultancies has been supplied to Fincantieri for the D.F. propulsion

Insulation

Technological Solutions for Insulation

Multy Layer Insulation M.L.I & PerliteExpanded Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass. Thermal conductivity is, however, depending on temperature and density -less 1 W/m2 abt. heat flow - 10-3 torr

Multilayer parallel layers of thin reflective material. The overlapped films are separated by a light and low thermal conductivity supports

•MLI heat flow = ½ Perlite•lifetime (outgassing and compaction of perlite)•Weight (300 kg MLI, while the same tank arranged with perliteinsulation would have about 3.6 tons)•The requested vacuum grade is 10-4 torr, although multilayer can keep nearly unaltered performances up to 10-3 torr. Differently from perlite, insulation performances deteriorate quickly above this limit and loss of vacuum behaviour is critical.
