This template may be used by teachers to assist them in writing their school work program.
It is not mandatory to use this template.
The document can be downloaded and changed to suit the specific school context.
When you have finished your document, be sure to delete all the additional information (shaded in light blue) and change the style to ’Normal’.
Course organisationThe course organisation should provide a clear statement of the structure of the school’s proposed course and the way in which it is organised and sequenced. The course organisation should indicate:
four to eight units of work, ranging from 20 to 55 hours
time allocation for units, ensuring the minimum requirement of 55 timetabled hours per semester is met
integration of the four areas of study within the course of study
evidence of key concepts being covered at least twice before verification, once in Year 11 and once in Year 12
at least one inquiry-based investigation of a marine environment, issue or problem per year
consideration of the organising principles: coherent sequencing, increasing complexity and increasing independence
the areas of study and the key concepts to be covered in each unit
at least two areas of study evident in each unit.
Note: In this template, the assessment plan is included with the course organisation. Schools may choose to provide the course organisation and the assessment plan separately.
The assessment plan provides an indication of the range and balance of assessment instruments and procedures used to gather information about student achievement for the four-semester course of study. The assessment plan should ensure verification folio requirements about student achievements are met, as outlined in Section 4.6 of the syllabus.
Assessment planThe assessment plan must include:
assessment instruments for each unit, including conditions and whether they are formative or summative
the range of assessment techniques required by the syllabus
formative opportunities for students to become familiar with assessment techniques that will be used to make summative judgments
verification folio requirements:
- evidence of student work from Year 12 only
- a minimum of four and a maximum of six assessment instruments
- evidence of each instrument assessing at least two dimensions
- each dimension being assessed at least three times
- one extended marine investigation or action research assessing all three dimensions
- one supervised extended response test
a post-verification assessment instrument that assesses all three dimensions
a student profile for Years 11 and 12 that matches the assessment plan.

Outline of intended student learning To demonstrate that the scope and depth of student learning meets syllabus requirements, the school’s proposed work program should include one sample unit of work that demonstrates:
Queensland Studies Authority | 2
- integration of all three dimensions
- inclusion of at least two areas of study
- an outline of the key concepts identified in the course of study
- sequence of learning experiences that demonstrates all three dimensions and relevant objectives (refer to syllabus, Section 2).
