It’s that time of the year again as final preparations are under- way for the Guadalupe County Youth Livestock and Home- makers Show. Animals are being groomed, the baked goods are being perfected and the industrial arts projects are being finalized as students across the county are gearing up for the big event. Animals will begin arriving on Wednesday January 18 and they will be exhibited through Friday Janu- ary 20. The homemaking and industrial arts projects will arrive for judging on Friday, upon completion of the judging those items will sell Friday night in the Coliseum. The livestock auction will take place Saturday January 21 on the dance slab at the Guadalupe County Fairgrounds, beginning with the champions at 12:00 noon. This is a great opportunity to visit with the youth of Guada- lupe County and see the results of their work, as they exhibit their projects and animals. Please make plans to join us as we support the youth of our area schools. If you and/or your child(ren) are participating in this year’s Youth Show, the complete schedule of judging events can be found at http://www.gcys.org/scheduleofevents.html. A Wing of a Prayer From Lori Hooge Smith : Morgan Aguirre, a 9th grader at Marion High School, is in ICU for Guillian Barre’ syndrome. She is paralyzed, and has been on a ventilator due to aspiration pneumonia. A group of her band and theater arts friends are trying to get donations for a garage sale to assist with bills and medi- cal expenses. Mr. Goodman, the band director said the kids can store donations at the band hall. Any help from the community would be appreciated. Her mother works part time at Walgreens, and has been in San Antonio at the hospital caring (continued on pg. 2...) It’s (Youth) Showtime!

It’s that time of the year again as final preparations are under-way for the Guadalupe County Youth Livestock and Home-makers Show. for her ill daughter. I am not sure if she is insured or not, but we would like to help their family out during this stressful time. Morgan may be in the hospital for four weeks minimum.

Date and place for the fundraiser is to be announced on the Marion Matters Facebook Page. Please post some prayers for Morgan and her family during these stressful times. The Spirit of Christmas is not over yet.

ScholarshipGuadalupe County Youth Show Scholarship Information and Application

The scholarship form below is for seniors who par-ticipated in the 2012 Guadalupe County Youth Show. This scholarship is made possible through the efforts of the Youth Show Gala and Guadalupe County Youth Show. It is a great opportunity to help pay for col-lege.

The scholarship application is available in a MS Word document and an Adobe pdf format. Please chose the link below to download the form.

The Guadalupe County Youth Livestock and Homemak-ers Show is a 501(c)(3) organization.

New in 2012...According to the IRS taxpayers have until April 17 to file their tax returns for the 2012 tax filing season. The IRS encourages taxpayers to e-file as it is the best way to ensure accurate tax returns and get faster refunds.

Taxpayers will have until Tuesday, April 17, to file their 2011 tax returns and pay any tax due because April 15 falls on a Sunday, & (continued on pg. 4...)
