Psalm 91
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide
under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my
God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and
from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt
thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow
that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the
destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall a thy side, and ten thousand at thy right
hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the
wicked.
Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the
most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come
nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all
thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot
against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the
dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver
him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him
in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Memories
“Abiding in God’s Call” “Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called. For he that is called in
the Lord, being a servant is the Lord’s freeman:” I Corinthians 7- 20, 22
Marion Nelson, created for God’s service, was born on June 29, 1940 in
Kershaw County’s rural area of Lugoff, SC. He transitioned from this life into
eternity at KershawHealth Medical Center on February 2, 2016. Marion was the
eldest son of the late John L. Nelson and Alice Martin Nelson.
“Pressing toward the mark of a higher calling” Philippians 3:14
Marion grew up and received early educational training at Mickle School in
Lugoff, SC. He graduated from Jackson high school in Camden, SC, and then
moved to New York, NY in pursuit of employment. Abiding in God’s call of
service for his country, Marion joined the US Army and performed his duty as a
Light Weapons Infantryman.
Marion was employed in 1968 for E.I. DuPont Company in manufacturing; he
was later promoted to the position of Textile Manufacturing Shift Supervisor,
retiring from E.I. DuPont Company in 1992. While there, Marion advocated for
justice, truth and equal rights for everyone, with a steadfast and resolute
approach.
Based on II Timothy 1: 6-9, Marion was faithful in his responsibility to God’s
holy calling of worshipful, spiritual service. He joined Rock Hill Baptist Church,
Ridgeway, SC at an early age and remained an active member. Marion was a
member of the Trustee Board and served as Chairman of the Trustees for many
years. He also served as Advisory Council Chairman, and a member of the
Brotherhood Auxiliary, The Senior Choir, and the Men’s Choir. Marion was an
attentive Sunday School participant and always enjoyed Sunday School
discussions. He looked forward to and attended Bible Study each week.
Working in services for his community and surrounding areas, Marion worked
on the Round-Up Committee for Fairfield Electric then serving on the Board of
Directors for Fairfield Electric. Marion was also a member of Longtown Masonic
Lodge No. 123, Ridgeway, SC.
Marion enjoyed the outdoors: he was an avid farmer, hunter and fisherman.
A man of integrity, strength, courage, valor, and trust, but most of all, Marion
was a man that loved God; his love for God compelled him to have love for
others, creating a genuine will to be of service wherever needed. He was a
personal gardener, handyman, auto mechanic, spiritual advisor, and much more.
It has been a life-long journey for Marion Nelson while “Abiding in God’s
Call.” Today, we affirm the Lord’s words: “Well done, thy good and faithful
servant: Thou has been faithful over a few things: I will make thee ruler over
many things: enter thou into the joy of the lord.”
A painful and sad void is felt by all those whose lives Marion touched.
Cherished memories are with those that remain: Marion’s wife of forty years,
Alberta Butler Nelson; a daughter, Yvonne Melissa Nelson of Charlotte, NC; a
son, Stacey Micah Nelson of Lugoff, SC; four sisters: Pauline E. Ferguson
(Roosevelt) of Chicago, IL; Katie Ruth Myles (Willie) of Bear, DE; Julia Etta
Tucker and Clara Nelson of Ridgeway, SC; two brothers: Norman B. Nelson
(Iola) of Ridgeway, SC and John Nelson Jr. of Augusta, GA; one Godson, Kevin
Myles (Cheryl) of Laurel, MD; two aunts: Mrs. Willie Mae Brown of Lugoff, SC
and Sallie Richardson (Willie) of Brooklyn, NY; sisters-in-law, brothers- in-law,
nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
