From the PrincipalOur year would not have felt complete had we not held our special Marist Day Mass. We were privileged to welcome Bishop Michael to his first ‘of many’ Marist Day Masses. Bishop Michael and Fr Kevin led our Mass with charisma and Aroha.

Congratulations to our young women who received their sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. St John Paul II said a “life with Christ is a wonderful adventure.” We look forward to seeing our new members of the Catholic faith grow as they continue to deepen their connection with God.

Today we also presented Service Leadership Badges to two Year 13 students. These young women have acted in true Marist Spirit by being role models to our junior students, peace makers and mentors through promoting social justice in our school. Congratulations Aimee Aranha and Rhea Bhide. You are both true servant leaders who live our Marist values.

Thank you for a fantastic Marist Day. Have a safe and blessed long weekend.

Marist College Singing Cup Competition Finals ConcertOn Thursday 22nd October the Marist College Singing Cup was held. It was a lovely night, with outstanding performances from all contestants. Our judge was Rachel Clarke, a Jazz Vocal Major at The University of Auckland.

Winners of the competition (pictureonleft):

• Svetlana Pritchard (junior) performing “Think of Me” by Andrew Lloyd Webber from the musical Phantom of the Opera(picturedonright)

• Peniel Swanney (intermediate) performing “One night only” Jennifer Hudson. Accompanied by David Siufaga (picturedinmiddle)

• Allebina Pailate (senior) performing "Colour blind" by Amber Riley (picturedonleft).

Time to celebrate our Marist College students Maggie and Lulu Brownfield competing at this years ‘Horse Of The Year’ competition.

Both girls had a great week away and we were very pleased with how their ponies jumped. Maggie and her young pony Minnie placed in the top 25 in most of her classes - a great result for a green pony in such a big environment.

Lulu also placed in the top 25 in all of her classes. A great result as this was Lulu's first season competing in registered events, and she had only been jumping at this level for two months prior to Horse of the Year.

Highlights include:

• Lulu placing 3rd in the 12 Years and Under Equitation 70cm class which is a fantastic result given she was riding against many more experienced riders

• Lulu scoring 10th place in the Category B Open Pony 80cm class - her first class on the first day.

Student Success

Anna and Georgia Hyde raised money for the Child Cancer Foundation by swimming the distance of the "Escape from Alcatraz" swim (2.4km) on Saturday 17th October. This is personal for them because their cousin Alex was diagnosed with brain cancer a year ago. He has undergone a year of intensive treatment at Starship Hospital with the amazing support of the Child Cancer Foundation.

We are so proud of the girls and how hard they have worked to support such a special cause. They wore bravery beads during the swim which they will give back to CCF and will end up as beads in recognition of bravery or courage. They typically mark having had to overcome a difficult period or procedure.

It was really special having their cousin Alex there to cheer them on too as he has completed his treatment and is beginning his next chapter, settling into school at Marist Primary.

Thank you for your support.

Health Update - HeadliceMany families are finding head lice are a problem. Working together helps us protect all our children.

We ask that you take the following action:

1. Please check your daughter’s head and heads of all of your family TODAY and once a week after that.

2. If you find evidence of head lice, please treat immediately.

3. You can find information on head lice treatment at your local pharmacy or at https://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/conditions-and-treatments/diseases-and- illnesses/head-lice

To deter the infestation of headlice, add some Tea Tree oil to your regular shampoo. To remove the headlice eggs, add vinegar and water to a spray bottle. Spray hair, then use a fine tooth comb to remove the eggs. Repeat the process.

Please get your daughters to check for their belongings in the lost property box at the school office.

Clear labelling is incredibly important. If items are clearly named, they can be returned to students.

At the end of each term, any unnamed items will be donated to St Vincent De Paul and our used uniforms collection.

Lost Property is overflowing again
