Marist College: Food Recovery Network BY-LAWS Article I NAME The name of this organization shall be Food Recovery Network of Marist College and may simply be referred to as the Food Recovery Network or FRN Article II PURPOSE Food Recovery Network will work to unite the community and students of all backgrounds and majors to create a food recovery program to help fight hunger within the surrounding community. We will collaborate with partner agencies and Marist College Sodexo dining services as well as all other on-campus dining services to achieve our mission to collect and retrieve food that would otherwise go to waste. We will also commit to educating the public on food waste and hunger. 1. To unite the community and students of all backgrounds and majors to create a food recovery program to help end hunger within the surrounding community 2. To provide social activities and community service involvement opportunities for students and the community. 3. To act as a liaison between the student body as a whole and local community and the Food Recovery Network administration. 4. To provide awareness and educate the Marist College student body and the greater community about the issues of hunger and food waste. 5. To protect the academic and non-academic rights of the student body. 6. To enhance the educational enrichment for the local community associated with food waste. Article III MEMBERS Section 1. Membership of the Food Recovery Network is open to all students and faculty of Marist College, as well as the surrounding general public. Food Recovery Network shall not discriminate on a basis of age, ancestry, color, disability, national origin, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation, or status.

Article II PURPOSEFood Recovery Network will work to unite the community and students of all backgrounds and majors to create a food recovery program to help fight hunger within the surrounding community. Article III MEMBERSSection 1. Membership of the Food Recovery Network is open to all

students and faculty of Marist College, as well as the surrounding general public. Food Recovery Network shall not discriminate on a basis of age, ancestry, color, disability, national origin, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation, or status.

Section 2. Members of the Food Recovery Network must agree with the mission statement and purpose of the club in which they will abide by the Bylaws and offer service and involvement in activities to which Food Recovery Network implements.

Section 3. To receive service points, students must participate in recovery runs and/or other service events held by Food Recovery Network. The breakdown of service hours and points is as follows:8 hours of participation/service = 1 service point16 hours of participation/service = 2 service points

Article IV FACULTY ADVISORSection 1. Duties of Faculty Advisor

The club shall have a Faculty Advisor who shall be a member of the faculty, or a full-time staff member, of Marist College. His/her duties are as follows:1. Help support and promote the club’s mission and purpose2. Maintain and promote good student-faculty relationships3. Provide structure and guidance for the club4. Assist in planning and monitoring club budget every

semester5. Act as a resource person for the club for events and meetings6. Help set realistic objectives and goals for each academic

semesterThe Faculty Advisor is not required to attend all meetings or planned events but should be available when needed

Article V OFFICERSSection 1. a. The Executive Board of the Food Recovery Network consists

of the following:1. President

a. Schedules & facilitates meetings.b. Delegates responsibilities to other leadership team mem-

bers and ensures they are completing them.c. Ensures that all necessary steps are taken to become and

remain an organization on campus.d. Develops the FRN chapter’s protocols, and acts as the main

communicator with FRN National.2. Vice President

a. Assumes responsibilities of other team members when they cannot be completed.

b. Recruits applicants and facilitates voting for future leadership positions

c. Takes notes at meetings.d. Organizes FRN paperwork.

3. Treasurera. Keeps track of organizational funds.b. Applies for funding from the university or grants from the

national office.c. Brainstorms fundraising ideas and collaborates with the

Event & PR Coordinator to develop fundraising events and campaigns.

4. Dining Hall/Restaurant Coordinatora. Acts as the main point of contact with dining services, local

restaurants, farms (wherever the donations are coming from).

b. Ensures that the recoveries run smoothly and that all food safety procedures are followed.

c. Establishes and updates the recovery schedule in accordance with the food donor(s) and the FRN members.

d. Works with the food donors and the Event & PR Coordinator to organize events with the food donor(s).

5. Partner Agency Coordinatora. Acts as the main point of contact with the agencies that are

accepting the food donations.b. Maintains a primary and a back up contact person at each

of the partner agencies.c. Ensures that partner agencies are aware of and in

agreement with the recovery schedule, the items donated, and the procedures followed.

d. Works with the Event & PR Coordinator to organize events at/to support the partner agency.

6. Volunteer Coordinatora. Coordinates the students signed up for each recovery and

makes sure that there is a solid number (3-5 for one car, 6-7 for 2 cars) of volunteers for each recovery run and that they show up on time.

b. Ensures that all volunteers are briefed in food safety, and that at least one leadership team member or experienced volunteer is present at each recovery.

c. Works with the list of volunteers who have signed up or assigns a different student organization to be responsible for each recovery on a rotating schedule.

d. Ensures that the online food tracking form is filled out after each recovery

7. Event & Public Relations Coordinator.a. Organizes awareness events on campus, at partner agen-

cies, or within other parts of the community.b. Works with the treasurer to organize fundraising events

and campaigns.c. Works with the Partner Agency Coordinator to organize

events with the partner agency.d. Works with the dining hall/restaurant coordinator to orga-

nize events with the food donors.e. Maintains the group’s facebook/twitter/other social media

pages, writing articles about the chapter’s success, taking pictures at every opportunity, etc.

b. No student may hold more than one position on the Food Re-covery Network board simultaneously unless otherwise agreed upon by the executive board of Food Recovery Network.

Article VI ELECTIONSSection 1. 1. The executive board shall be responsible for planning and

executing the elections for the upcoming semester or year’s board members.

2. Elections for the Food Recovery Network Executive Board will be held at the end of the Spring semester, unless an officer needs to be elected at an alterative time.

3. Nominations are open to any individual of the student body, and are open anytime from the initial announcement of elections up until the day of elections.

4. Each candidate running must give a speech regarding their qualifications for the desired position they are running for.

5. After each candidate has given their speech, ballots will be distributed, and then collected once votes has been placed.

6. The new executive board members will be announced after the close of the vote tallying, which can take place either during or after the elections.

Section 2. Each executive board position duration will last one year from the held election time until elections the following academic year.

Section 3. If a member of the Executive Board were to reside from a post/position during the academic year, one of the following should be done to fill the vacant position(s):1. Hold an election to fill vacant position2. Reassign the duties of resigning officer to another remaining

officer until next election3. President or Vice President will assume responsibilities of va-

cant position

Article VII MEETINGSSection 1. 1. There will be one initial meeting at the beginning of each

academic semester, and one conclusive meeting at the end of each semester.2. All other meeting dates, times, and locations are at the discretion of the executive board members.3. Meetings are open to all members of the student body, faculty and community.

Section 2. All special meetings and executive meetings will be held by the executive board and will any other third parties at the discretion of the executive board.

Section 3. A minimum of three executive officers will constitute as a special or executive board meeting.

Section 4. The executive board will meet monthly to review and discuss future events and/or meetings, or to evaluate any necessary or relevant topics or issues regarding club standards and/or procedures.

Article VIII COMMITTEESBased on planned events/recovery runs, committees must be instilled based on the discretion of the executive board.

Article IX PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDUREUnless suspended, all meetings will be run accordingly to Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised.

Article X AMENDMENT OF LAWSThese by-laws may be amended by a majority vote of the members provided that a quorum is present. If such amendments pass by the majority, it then must be presented to the Student Government Association for final approval.

Article XI POLICIES AND ACTIONS

The club and any individual associated with said club, shall abide and conform to all Federal Laws, New York State Laws, all rules and regulations of Marist College, and all directives of the Student Government Association. Any violation of the aforementioned criteria may result in the disciplinary action taken on the club charter.

Article XII HAZINGThe Marist College Division of Judicial Affairs holds this policy for the college: Any action, which endangers the mental, emotional, or physical health or safety of a student, or which destroys or removes public or private property, for the purpose of initiation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in an organization or team whose members are, or include, students at Marist.
