IMPORTANCE OF 21ST CENTURY SKILLS

The broad thinking around 21st century learning acknowledges the need for new “form and function” to be added to education goals.

This thinking is informed by a belief that learning must leverage the affordances of new technologies, employ better pedagogies based on recent research on how people learn, and be cognizant of the characteristics of a new breed of learners.

21ST CENTURY SKILLS

WHAT 21ST CENTURY SKILL IS ABOUT?

Information and communication skills which include media literacy, information literacy and ICT literacy.

Thinking and problem-solving skills which include critical thinking and systems thinking, problem identification formulation and solution, creativity and intellectual curiosity.

TOOLS OF 21ST CENTURY

Information and communication technologies including computers, the Internet and other technologies

Audio, video and other media and multimedia tools

HOW IT CAN BE IMPLEMENTED

Making content relevant to students’ livesBringing the world into the classroomTaking the students out into the worldCreating opportunities for students to interact with each other, with teachers and with other knowledgeable adults in authentic learning experiences

STUDENT CENTERED APPROACHES

These methods include active learning, in which students solve problems, answer questions, formulate questions of their own, discuss, explain, debate, or brainstorm during class

Cooperative learning, in which students work in teams on problems and projects under conditions that assure both positive interdependence and individual accountability

Inductive teaching and learning, in which students are first presented with challenges (questions or problems) and learn the course material in the context of addressing the challenges.

BLOOMS TAXONOMY

BLOOMS TAXONOMY

Taxonomy” simply means “classification”, so the well-known taxonomy of learning objectives is an attempt (within the behavioural paradigm) to classify forms and levels of learning. It identifies three “domains” of learning (each of which is organized as a series of levels or pre-requisites. It is suggested that one cannot effectively — or ought not try to — address higher levels until those below them have been covered

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES TASKTOPIC 21ST CENTURY APPROACHES TECHNIQUES/MODES

1. Sorting rocks Observing & Monitoring Skills Survey of a Grounds in community

2.Hard rocks and soft rocks Listening & Speaking Experiment and ,make conclusions based on evidence

3. Magnetic material Giving Directional skills By Showing children what happens when two magnet put together i.e. attraction/repulsion

4. Stretching and squeezing

Questioning Skills By showing them elasticity and what happens when a spring is compressed or stretched.

5.Friction Encouraging Skills To show them anti-lubricant materials and tell them the process of lubrication by demonstration

6. Materials Intervening Skills To show the conductivity and prevention from conductivity

7.Forces Encouraging/Intervening Skills Demonstration ,multimedia presentation

LEARNING

“Friends are helpful not only because they will listen to us, but because they will laugh at us; Through them we learn a little objectivity, a little modesty, a little courtesy; We learn the rules of life and become better players of the game

Everybody who is incapable of learning has taken to teaching.

CONCLUSION

Positive attitude is a great asset in life. We throw many curve balls in life and especially in the teaching profession. A positive attitude will help us cope with these in the best way.A sense of humor can help us become a successful teacher as teaching is fun.
