Teenage Kicks part 3 This lot are called The Ladykillers and are a three piece fired up ball of energy who I got to see play upstairs in Hannah s Bar on Saturday evening after bumping into people who d already seen them play. It s one of the best things about this sort of music festival, especially if you ve got yourself more than one show lined up. You play a good gig and then get people talking about you and you start to build up a micro following over the following days and it defo worked for this lot who are based in Liverpool. Teenage Kicks part 2 The Cipher are a group of young liverpool artists, writers and musicians who were born out of a young writers workshop which was part of the Writing On

Lowkey and judging by Saturday s performance in Bumper, this lot are going places. I d sat through a panel or two earlier on in the week and by far my favourite was the one in the Hard Dayroom were saying that Liverpool has a lot of talent in the urban musical arena but it s the rest of the music that comes out of the city that get s promoted and talked about. On that panel was Jade Wright from The Echo and, as much as it s not just down to her, she did promise those present that she d look into promoting the scene more in the future and possibly introducing a regular column in The Echo for more of this music son fingers crossed for that

m no knowledge on the scene myself but if this is the sort of talent that s to hand then the whole things does need shouting s Mike Morris on guitar.

The Blackout The Blackout played two gigs in The Masque for Liverpool Sound City and they were Friday night and Saturday afternoon for which some of the crowd

the show only to find that it would have been impossible to get into the pit but luckily a nice stage manager let me across to the back of the stage for a It was rammed, this band move very very fast, the


lights were pointing in the wrong direction and the heat was unbelievable but I enjoyed the challenge! Coming up next will be some of the younger bands that played Liverpool Sound City.

Los Campesinos There s a lot of bands these days with only two members (Ting Tings, Blood Red Shoes, SleighBells etc ) and I don t know if it s down to trends and coincidences or pure economics in an age when people ain t buying records. I mean, if the money s in touring then a duo means less tour expenses and less people to pay so it s reassuring to still see a big band now and then and on a blisteringly hot afternoon, the 7 piece Los Campesinos made being indoors in a dark venue bearable! Los Campesinos were supporting Maccabees in the first of two O2 Academy gigs for Liverpool Sound City.

Hardman Street Never been upstairs in Hannah s before but the view is amazing and it s always a bonus to get a new view of the city and with the stunning weather we ve had this last few days, it was great seeing the city centre being so busy. I know they re not all attending Liverpool Sound City but it did feel like this year s event had taken over the city in a bigger way and there were more people wandering around from bar to bar and band to band.
