NEWSLETTER No. 26 24th August 2017

Dear Parents, Friends and Students

The quote from scripture that can be found at the top of

this week’s newsletter fits in perfectly with the Sacrament

of Confirmation that was received by many of our Year 6

students last Sunday. In his homily, Father Peter Whitley

gave the confirmation candidates many examples of how

the Sacrament of Confirmation can make a difference in

the way they live their lives along with making a difference

to the lives of those around them. The Mass was a very

beautiful celebration. I would like to congratulate each of

the students in Year 6 for the mature way they

participated in the programme. I would like to thank Mrs

Keddie and Miss Hibben for their work in preparing the

Mass, preparing the students and making certain that all

went right on the day.

The Book Fair has been a huge hit over the last few days.

Thank you to the ladies who have organised and run the

fair each morning and afternoon. It is great to see so

many of our students wanting to buy a book.

This week the school has focused on Book Week. Each

of the classes has participated in an activity related to the

books that have been nominated for awards. Today was

have read. The parade that was held this morning was

full of colour and artistry. Thank you to the P&F for their

work in organising the parade and the prizes that went

with it. Thank you to Mrs Hosking for organising the

activities around Book Week.

Congratulations to our Year 1 students for their assembly

last week. They have been very busy this term and were

confidently able to share with us their learning.

YEAR 2 NEWS What a fun week we have had!

The Dress up Parade was a great way to start our day

and we loved looking at all the different costumes. Well

done to everyone for getting into the spirit of Book Week.

During library Mrs Hosking read a funny story called ‘The

Cat who wanted Custard’. The children then drew

amazing pictures of Kevin the Cat. Thanks to Mrs

Hosking for organizing such a fun activity!

We have begun to get ready for the Faction Carnival. The

children are very excited and have been working hard

during sport to be in top form. The Year 6s also taught us

some new chants to encourage their factions.

3YOP Enrolments 2018 The Pre-kindy enrolments for 2018 are now closed.

It is with regret that I need to inform you that Matthew

Gibney Catholic Primary School will not be running a

Pre-kindy programme in 2018. Unfortunately, we did not

receive enough enrolments to make the programme

financially viable.

Interviews for enrolment into our Kindergarten

programme (2019) will take place in Term 2 2018 (30th

April to 29th June). I would ask that you ensure that you

have submitted an application for enrolment.

Congratulations Mr Powell on 30

years of service to Catholic

Education WA!

YEAR 6 NEWS Year Sixes have had a busy few weeks in preparation to

receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Mass was on

Sunday Morning. The children looked very smart and

received the Sacrament of Confirmation with reverence.

Well done Year Sixes. I was very proud of you all. A

special thanks to Matthew Lattimer who sang in the Choir

and Montanna Thumwood who attended the Mass to

support her peers. I would also like to give a big thanks to

Mrs Keddie for her support for the Year Sixes as they got

ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Now the students are busily getting ready for the factions

athletics carnival with running a meeting Tuesday

afternoon with their factions to learn some cheers and

chants that can be cheered loudly on the day.

PRE-PRIMARY NEWS The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our school ‘Book Week Parade’ today and they all looked fantastic in

their costumes. Thank you to all parents and guardians who made such a great effort t with their costumes! Yesterday

we had a special visitor. Mrs Haji Ali, Aliyah’s mum (Year 6), read us the book which she wrote with her husband called

‘On the Way to Nana’s’. The Year 6 students joined us for this very special occasion and everyone enjoyed listening to

the story and learning about the country-side where the book’s setting took place, namely the Kimberley area. Thank

you to Mrs Haji Ali for giving up her time to come to our school.

The children are very excited about the school carnival and they have been practising very hard. This will take place

next Friday 1 September on our school oval. This year the Pre Primary children will be participating in the carnival from

the start of the day and sitting in their faction tents.

The children will march out to the oval with their faction and remain in their faction tent throughout the day. Parents may

come in to the school grounds and have recess/lunch with their children. However, the children will not be allowed to go

to their parents on the oval. If parents are unable to attend the carnival, their children will come back to the classroom

for recess and lunch. At the end of the carnival, the children will return to the classroom where they can be signed out by

me. If parents wish to take their child before the end of the carnival, they will be required to sign out using the normal

procedure i.e through the school office. Each child will be given a programme showing the races that he/she will be

taking part in. We look forward to a very exciting and fun-filled day!

Wednesday 20th September @ 7.30pm

Earn & Learn provides an easy way for children, Parents, Relatives, Staff and Friends to help our

school receive educational resources through the program, simply by doing their shopping at

Woolworths!

Each year, Woolworths runs their Earn & Learn program, which offers shoppers the chance to

collect stickers, which they put on to an Earn & Learn sticker sheet. Sticker sheets can be collected

from the Admin Office. One sticker is given for every $10 spent (excluding liquor, tobacco and gift

cards). Completed sticker sheets can then be dropped into the collection box outside the Admin

Office. Completed sticker sheets are then used to obtain educational resources for the school!

The Woolworths Earn & Learn program runs from Wednesday, 26 July until Tuesday, 19

September, 2017.
