2 Market launch of the GLC Coupé (C253) 2.2 Overview

T1480E <> Participant Document 3

2.2 Overview

In its element no matter what the terrain. The new GLC Coupé.

At its world premiere in 2015 in Shanghai, the dynamic-expressive design of the GLC Coupé

concept drew a lot of attention. Typical coupé styling elements link to the design language of

current SUV models.

Just one year later, this promise has become a reality: The new GLC Coupé carries over the de-

sign language of the show car with its stunning base structure and stretched greenhouse into

series production almost entirely unchanged.

Aesthetics and sportiness come together in a new constellation: The first midsize sport utility

coupé from Mercedes-Benz fascinates with its combination of SUV and coupé elements just as

it does with its very agile and sporty handling characteristics. It is the perfect match for per-

formance-oriented modern individualists with an expressive lifestyle.

2 Market launch of the GLC Coupé (C253) 2.3 The most important highlights of the GLC Coupé

4 T1480E <> Participant Document

2.3 The most important highlights of the GLC Coupé

Expressive coupé design

The combination of SUV-typical elements and the stretched coupé silhouette give rise to the

characteristic design of the GLC Coupé. The stretched roof line underscores the sporty-

dynamic on-road character and stands apart from the GLC. The front immediately distinguishes

the Coupé with its dominant diamond radiator grille with decorative slat. The sporty, wide rear

stance is peppered with horizontal contour lines. The narrow, split rear lamps and edged spoiler

lip give the vehicle its Coupé genetics. 45.7 cm (18") light alloy wheels and the exterior chrome

package with visible exhaust tips already come as standard. Customization options come in the

way of the AMG exterior line with mixed tires, the night package and an Edition 1, which will be

offered for a limited period from market launch.

Coupé-type interior

Included among the features of the interior are standard ARTICO man-made leather upholstery

and rear seats with individual seat character. The high-quality interior design conveys a sensu-

ous clarity that no competitor can offer in this form. Customization options are available with

the AMG interior line with sport seats – optionally available in two-tone cranberry red and black

– the EXCLUSIVE interior and two exquisite designo interiors.

Impressive dynamic response and agility

Dynamic driving pleasure is catered to by the standard sports suspension, direct-steer system

and 5 DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes "Comfort", "ECO", "Individual", "Sport" and

"Sport+".

Two suspension systems with continuous adjustable damping are also available. The new DY-

NAMIC BODY CONTROL steel-based adjustable damping system and the familiar AIR BODY

CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension. Both systems further improve vehicle dynamics and

comfort.

A sports exhaust system can be optionally ordered to amplify the engine sound of all 4-cylinder

gasoline engines. The selection of engines available ─ which can be mated to a rear wheel

drive, all-wheel drive or PLUG-IN HYBRID system ─ leave nothing to be desired.

Comfort and functionality equally impress

The GLC Coupé combines an expressive sporty vehicle concept with high levels of comfort and

functionality. Just the way customers of our SUVs expect. A loading volume of just under 500 l

and folding rear seat backrests provide sufficient space to meet a wide variety of requirements.

The higher seat position and the 4-door coupé concept afford a very good overview and make it

easier to enter and exit the vehicle. The comfort-oriented equipment is also coupé-ish with a

reversing camera, EASY-PACK liftgate, KEYLESS-GO start function and Audio 20 CD system all

as standard. The GLC Coupé also borrows all safety and assistance systems from the GLC and

is therefore the benchmark in the segment.

2.4 Model history

The GLC Coupé is the second sport utility coupé from Mercedes-Benz following in the footsteps

of the GLE Coupé, which caters to the full-size segment (market launch in 07/2015). The

midsize sport utility coupé does not have any predecessor models.

Design concept

TT_00_00_046424_FA

The GLC Coupé combines the bold presence of an SUV with the dynamic lines of a coupé. The

result is a stylish exterior that exudes emotion and character and sets it considerably apart

from the GLC. This is also evident in the vehicle dimensions: The coupé is 76 mm longer and 38

mm lower than the GLC.

Standard exterior equipment

This standard equipment underscores the class of vehicle with exquisite details in chrome and

18" light alloy wheels in 10-spoke design. Visual highlights are set by the chrome inserts on the

radiator grille and the beltline as well as the exhaust tips made from stainless steel. The simu-

lated underguard protection at the front and rear in chrome stylishly round off the exterior.

Exterior chrome package (standard equipment)

The chrome package includes additional chrome trim pieces for the exterior as stylish design

elements.

Elements of the exterior chrome package:

Radiator grille with integrated Mercedes star and an iridium silver matt slat with chrome inserts

Simulated underbody protection at front and rear in chrome

Waistline trim strip in polished aluminum

Window frame in chrome

Handle in loading floor in chrome

Exhaust system with 2 visible, bumper-integrated exhaust tips in stainless steel (for gaso-line engine) or with 2 tailpipe trim pieces (for diesel engines)

2.7.1 Front design

The upright radiator grille with a decorative slat lends the GLC Coupé its SUV-typical expressive

styling and coupé-like sportiness.

TT_00_00_046434_FA

The essential features of the front design are:

The diamond radiator grille with centrally arranged Mercedes star and decorative slat high-lights the connection to Mercedes-Benz sports cars and instantly distinguishes the Coupé from the GLC with 2 slats

Halogen headlamps, integrated LED daytime running lamps at the bottom of the headlamp assembly

Bold headlamp design and LED daytime running lamps as brand-typical "eyebrow" in com-bination with LED high-performance headlamps and LED Intelligent Light System

Front bumper with large air inlets and simulated underbody protection in bucket tooth de-sign, in silver chrome or high-gloss black, depending on equipment

2.7.2 Side design

The bold and sporty side view is created by the stretched coupé silhouette with high beltline

and steeply raked greenhouse.

Optional 19" and 20" AMG light alloy wheels with mixed tires

3 optionally exclusive wheel designs for the Coupé in sizes 18", 19" and 20"

Coupé-like silhouette thanks to the lower height (–38 mm compared to the GLC) and a longer rear overhang (+76 mm compared to the GLC)

Claddings on the wheel arches and side skirts protect fenders and doors from stone chip-ping and underscore the SUV look

A dropping line and considerably more pronounced wheel wells at the rear in combination with the AMG exterior line make the vehicle appear wider and sportier

Automatically dimming outside mirrors with integrated turn signal lamp

Optional running boards in aluminum look with rubber naps in SUV-typical look

Running boards in aluminum look with rubber naps

The running boards in aluminum look are a real eye-catcher. They make it easier to enter the

vehicle at the front and rear. Anti-slip rubber naps reduce the risk of slipping. In all variants, the

running boards are available as special equipment.

2.7.3 Roof variants

Electric glass sliding roof with anti-pinch protection

In all variants of the GLC Coupé, the electric glass sliding roof is special equipment. A panoram-

ic sliding sunroof is not available.

The electric power sliding roof provides pleasant, draft-free air circulation in the interior. Be-

cause of the fact that it is made from glass, it creates brighter ambience at the same time. A

sliding roof element provides protection from the sun.

2.7.4 Rear design

The rear end looks very sporty and wide thanks to the low roof, fender flares (in combination

with the AMG exterior line) and wheels flush with the outer edge of the body as well as horizon-

tal contour lines.

TT_00_00_046438_FA

The major features of the rear-end design are:

Cutouts for the exhaust tips and visible exhaust tips in chrome look for gasoline engines as well as trim for diesel engines

Rear bumper with simulated underbody protection, depending on equipment installed in silver chrome or high-gloss black, license plate adapter integrated in the bumper as for the GLE Coupé

Liftgate with aerodynamically shaped spoiler lip and coupé-specific inclined rear window extending across the entire width, mechanical opening of the liftgate via the Mercedes star as for the GLE Coupé

Two-piece full-LED rear lamps with accentuated-width design in combination with LED In-telligent Light System for greater safety, lower energy consumption and long service life of light sources

Two reflectors in the rear bumper enhance visibility

The rear window does without a wiper as the air flow only breaks behind the spoiler lip such

that mud-laden water cannot spray onto the rear window.

EASY-PACK tailgate

The EASY-PACK liftgate can be opened and closed at the press of a button and thus makes it

possible to load and unload the load compartment. It is always part of the standard equipment

in the GLC Coupé.

LED high performance headlamp TT_00_00_046442_FA

The high-performance LED headlamps are closer to the daylight color spectrum than xenon

headlamps, for example. This is why they place less strain on the driver's eyes. LED technology

is characterized by its very low energy consumption. The low beams use LED projection tech-

nology and the high beams LED reflection technology.

The turn signal indicator integrates reflection technology with front optic. Daytime running

lights and position lights are realized as LED optical fibers. Bulb replacement is no longer nec-

essary over the entire service life of the vehicle thanks to the widespread use of LED technolo-

gy.

The brake light illumination varies depending on the ambient brightness. For example, at night,

when stopped at a red light, the brightness of the brake lights is automatically reduced to en-

sure that the driver of the vehicle behind is not dazzled. To further reduce any dazzling effect,

the surrounding strip lighting is activated along with the brake lights.

The luminosity of the brake lights varies, depending on the ambient brightness, to mini-mize dazzling other road users

The functions of the LED Intelligent Light System:

The country light illuminates the vehicle-side edge of the road more brightly and extensive-ly than a normal low beam.

The motorway lights switch themselves on from a speed of 90 km/h. The intensity of the light is first increased, providing better illumination of the road and its edges. From 110 km/h, the range of the light is increased.

The cornering lights improve the illumination of the road by providing additional light at the cornering side.

With the active curve lights, the headlamps swivel in the direction of the corner – the driv-er can see much further.

With the extended fog light function, the outer half of the road is illuminated more brightly – and the driver is still less dazzled by the reflected light.

22 T1480E <> Participant Document

The Adaptive Highbeam Assist is available as special equipment for all variants of the GLC Cou-

pé. A prerequisite for this is the LED high-performance headlamps special equipment. When the

high beams are switched on, Adaptive Highbeam Assist ensures that the headlamp range is op-

timally set at all times to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic. The driver hardly needs to activate the

high beam switch and can focus more attention on driving.

Combined camera and headlamp system

The heart of the Adaptive Highbeam Assist is the front camera in the overhead control panel

that monitors activity in front of the car. Thanks to its intelligent image-processing algorithm, it

detects oncoming and leading illuminated vehicles and calculates their distance. The system is

extremely fast and sends current data every 40 milliseconds to the variably regulated Intelligent

Light System bi-xenon headlamps. Based on this information, the headlamps are dimmed and

the headlamp range of the low beams is set at up to 300 m and adjusted continuously to the

traffic situation. As soon as the driver drives faster than 55 km/h, the high beams are switched

on automatically if the road ahead is clear. When Adaptive Highbeam Assist is activated, the

system operates fully automatically. It is activated by pressing the operating lever on the steer-

ing wheel to the high beams position.

Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus

TT_00_00_039554_FA

The Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus is available as special equipment for all variants of the GLC

Coupé. A prerequisite for this is the LED Intelligent Light System special equipment.

This system allows the driver to drive with the high beams permanently on without dazzling

other road users. The driver can therefore always take advantage of the best possible headlamp

range. The function is activated at 30 km/h on roads without street lighting.

TT_82_10_039027_FA

Overview of the Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus:

Automatic high beam control for a permanently wide illumination of the road

Selective covering of the light cone to prevent dazzling of preceding or oncoming vehicles

Active from a speed of 30 km/h on roads with street lighting

If the high beams are switched on, the best possible headlamp range is always available with

this system. The driver can then concentrate on the traffic and no longer needs to keep switch-

ing from high beams to low beams and vice versa.

The Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus uses a stereo camera positioned behind the windshield to

detect other illuminated road users such as oncoming or preceding vehicles and automatically

adjusts the headlamps to the new traffic situation. A mechanism in the headlamp module co-

vers the area of the light cone in the LED headlamp in which other vehicles are located so that

the drivers of these vehicles are not dazzled.

This means the driver can leave the high beams switched on permanently and make use of their

range without bothering or endangering other road users. This function is active from a speed

of 30 km/h on roads without street lighting.

2.9.2 Rear lamps

Using LED fiber optics and LED technology for important lighting functions leads to a consider-

ably longer service life and lower power consumption in comparison to bulbs. The rear lamps

also set striking visual accents.

2.13 Suspension

Sports suspension

The standard sports suspension achieves a very high level of vehicle dynamics. The tauter de-

sign for the suspension and dampening enables a sportier driving style, with no great sacrifice

in comfort.

TT_00_00_046454_FA

The AIR BODY CONTROL and DYNAMIC BODY CONTROL air suspension provide damping con-

trol in 3 stages, depending on the driving experience desired.

The following suspensions are offered as special equipment:

DYNAMIC BODY CONTROL with lowered level by 15 mm and broad spread between com-fortable, sporty and very sporty characteristics in 3 stages: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+"

AIR BODY CONTROL (489) with multi-chamber air suspension, continuous damping control and adjustable damping 3 stages: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+"

DYNAMIC BODY CONTROL

Drivers can use the DYNAMIC SELECT switch to change the damping characteristics of the ve-

hicle. The configuration settings offer a broad spread between comfortable, sporty and very

sporty characteristics. The driver can choose between 3 stages: "Comfort", "Sport" and

"Sport+". The suspension is also lowered by 15 mm.

2 Market launch of the GLC Coupé (C253) 2.13 Suspension

42 T1480E <> Participant Document

TT_00_00_046426_FA

The effect of the shock absorbers is intensified in the "Sport" and "Sport+" stages. The lowered

level and stiffer suspension setup facilitate a more dynamic driving style while ensuring good

ride comfort, including on long journeys. Since the damping system is continuously adjustable

and targets each wheel independently, driving safety and driving comfort improve as a result.

AIR BODY CONTROL

The AIR BODY CONTROL system is a combination of a multiple-chamber air suspension system

with continuous damper adjustment. The damping and suspension are adapted separately for

each wheel.

AIR BODY CONTROL comprises four air springs with three air chambers each, a valve unit, a

central reservoir and a compressor unit. Two control units are responsible for the control and

regulation.

Function

Under normal conditions, the air suspension operates with different pressures depending on

the load. The compressed air required is generated by the compressor unit and routed via the

valve unit to the respective air springs.

Control and signal processing take place in the AIRMATIC and AIRMATIC PLUS control units. In

addition to adjusting the damping forces, with AIR BODY CONTROL the compliance characteris-

tic can also be adjusted. The air springs have three air chambers and two valves.

“Sport+” mode: Further accentuated sportiness; suspension (in combination with AIR BODY CONTROL) and drivetrain are tuned for even greater dynamic response

“Individual” mode: Variation of individual parameters as required by the driver via the switch and configuration menu in the multimedia system

Axles

Front axle

The GLC Coupé uses a four-link front axle with weight-optimized aluminum forged parts.

The most important features and elements of the four-link front axle:

Use of weight-optimized aluminum forged parts for the strut rod, spring control arm, wish-bone control arm and steering knuckle

Rigid, weight-optimized integral support for optimized integration of the front axle, engine, transmission and steering gear from a dynamic response perspective

Facilitates large track widths and tire dimensions for improved vehicle dynamics

The steering knuckle connects the upper and lower strut level and accommodates the wheel and brake system; very good camber rigidity and a high natural frequency give rise to good steering response times and exceptional noise comfort

Lower strut level with strut rod inclined to the front, transverse spring control arm and tie rod as part of the rack-and-pinion steering

Upper wishbone control arm takes over additional wheel control functions, e.g. during braking maneuvers

Stabilizer bar that acts on the steering knuckle

Rear axle

The independent multilink rear suspension with 5 struts impresses with unprecedented wheel

control qualities. All components were optimized with respect to function and weight to realize

a weight savings of 5 kg. The rear axle is therefore considerably lighter than that of the compet-

itors.

Increased track width and larger tire dimensions as well as optimized fine-tuning of the wheel-guide elastomer bearings improve vehicle dynamics

Enlarged front suspension subframe carrier for better comfort

Low unsprung masses due to consistent lightweight design – 3 of the 5 wheel-guiding struts are aluminum forged parts

Improved kinematics and elastokinematics with neutral to slight understeering self-steering behavior

2 Market launch of the GLC Coupé (C253) 2.13 Suspension

T1480E <> Participant Document 47

Weight-optimized wheel carriers made from forged aluminum that are highly rigid and cor-rosion free

Two rear axle carrier variants: First load stage made from aluminum sheet paneling for smaller and lighter model designations; second load stage made from high-strength sheet steel for the more powerful and heavier model designations

Steering

The GLC Coupé features direct steering with an electromechanically assisted steering gear.

Even sportier and more agile handling characteristics are achieved with the steering ratio that

is more direct than that used in the GLC.

The main advantages of the steering:

More agile vehicle handling since the steering ratio already becomes noticeably more di-rect at small steering wheel angles

High steering comfort across the entire vehicle speed range

Significant fuel-saving potential as energy is only required for steering

Excellent steering response thanks to the rack-and-pinion steering being arranged in front of the wheel center

Facilitates driving assistance systems with active steering intervention such as DISTRONIC PLUS with Steer Assist (233)

Starting from the steering wheel's home position, the steering column can be adjusted by +/–

25 mm in height, 25 mm forwards and 35 mm rearwards.

Variable assistance in any driving situation

The direct steering with electromechanically assisted steering gear (EPS) consists of two com-

ponents: speed-sensitive power steering with speed-dependent servo assistance and a variable

gear ratio that is dependent on the steering wheel angle. This is achieved using a toothed rack

with teeth that are closer together in the center than in the outer area. The ratio of the steering

gear therefore changes depending on the steering angle. The indirect gear ratio in the central

area helps to achieve stable straight ahead running. Starting at a steering wheel angle of ap-

prox. 5° already, the gear ratio becomes noticeably more direct. The number of steering rota-

tions from end stop to end stop are therefore reduced by up to 25 %. For convenient parking

with low steering force, a high degree of power assistance is available. It is decreased with in-

creasing speed.

Low steering angle (up to 5°) for example on the freeway

At a low steering angle, the steering reacts indirectly. This increases the tracking stability and

safety when driving straight ahead. The reducing amount of servo assistance at faster speeds

gives the vehicle additional stabilization.

Medium steering angle (5° up to 100°) for example on winding country roads

At a medium steering angle, the steering ratio becomes more direct. This leads to more nimble

vehicle reactions for sportier and more dynamic cornering behavior.

High steering angle (as of 100°), for example when turning, parking or maneuvering

2 Market launch of the GLC Coupé (C253) 2.13 Suspension

48 T1480E <> Participant Document

The direct reaction of the steering system increases comfort during turning, parking or maneu-

vering. The additional high degree of servo assistance makes steering extremely light and com-

fortable.

Low fuel consumption, more possibilities

The electromechanical steering gear of the direct-steer system offers the potential for substan-

tial fuel savings thanks to demand-based steering assist and facilitates the use of innovative

driving assistance systems.

Brakes

Highlights of the brake system include the standard internally ventilated compound brake disks

at the front and rear wheel brakes.

The most important features of the brake system:

Improved vehicle dynamics and greater ride comfort as the lighter compound brake disks reduce unsprung masses

Potential to reduce fuel consumption as the compound brake disks contribute to reduced vehicle weight

Typical Mercedes-Benz high quality with respect to braking distance, response time, stabil-ity, service life of the brake pads and directional stability

ADAPTIVE BRAKE vehicle dynamics control system with ABS anti-lock braking system, ASR acceleration skid control and GMR active yaw control

2.15 Safety and assistance systems

TT_00_00_039554_FA

The GLC Coupé borrows the safety and assistance systems from the C-Class and is therefore

the benchmark in the segment. Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive combines the inter-networked

systems that improve comfort levels and assist the driver in critical situations.

Mercedes-Benz therefore sets a milestone on the road toward autonomous driving. The integral

safety concept of Mercedes-Benz encompasses all elements pertaining to the safety of vehicle

occupants and other road users.

In all four phases of the integral safety concept from Mercedes-Benz, the GLC Coupé is already

very well equipped when it comes to standard equipment:

Body concept

The Mercedes Rear-Wheel-Drive Architecture (MRA) is a platform for standardizing the vehicle

shell, axles and powertrain. The body concept of the model series 253 is based on this modular

platform, which is also shared with the model series 205, the E-Class (model series 213) and its

derivative models. The front end structure is mainly integral with the model series 205/213;

the substructure with the model series 213. The rear floor is a unique element but is similar

from a structural design and material concept perspective. For weight reasons, a 50-liter fuel

tank is fitted as standard in combination with the 4-cylinder diesel engines. A 66-liter fuel tank

is available if longer ranges are required. The standard AdBlue® tank for diesel engines has a

fill volume that equates to approx. 20,000 km.

Material concept

A significant weight reduction has been achieved in model series 253 compared to the normal

manufacturing method using steel thanks to intelligent lightweight design. This weight saving

2 Market launch of the GLC Coupé (C253) 2.16 Body

56 T1480E <> Participant Document

results from the innovative aluminum hybrid design of the body structure and the use of alumi-

num in the outer paneling sections. Areas of the front section and rear floor are mainly made of

diecast aluminum. Making the same components out of steel would have required several sepa-

rate parts of different thicknesses to be assembled. This affects the wheel well in the front sec-

tion. This is made from diecast aluminum. This made it possible to implement varying material

thicknesses within the component in accordance with the specifications. The result is improved

torsional stiffness, optimized rolling noise and reduced weight. At the rear floor, the longitudinal

members with shock-absorber strut mount and the crossmember over the rear axle.

The main floor of the passenger cell consists of a single sheet metal part. Three plates are

connected to each other here by laser welding before reshaping. The center plate with a greater

sheet thickness forms the tunnel as the backbone of the floor assembly. Additional solid tunnel

reinforcements have been attached. To improve the application of force into the floor structure,

the floor is equipped with full-length floor longitudinal members. The floor longitudinal member

is reinforced with two inner and one outer reinforcement section each on the inner shell of the

front longitudinal member and tunnel and the side longitudinal members. The reinforcements

running perpendicular to the vehicle are:

The seat cross members

The rear seat cross member with additional reinforcements

At the same time, the rear seat cross member is also responsible for the separation from the

rear-end floor.

The rear floor has an aluminum-steel hybrid design. Longitudinal member and cross member

components made of diecast aluminum as well as high-strength steels are used here. To

achieve a targeted deformation characteristic in the event of a rear-end collision, the rear floor

longitudinal members are designed with progressive sheet thicknesses. As with the front-end

structure, the rear floor suspension strut mounts are also made of diecast aluminum for weight

and functional reasons.

Repair concept

Based on the repair stage concept from the predecessor model series for aluminum and alumi-

num-hybrid bodies, model series 253 uses the following repair stages:

Stage I, replace bolted aluminum components and remove dents in them

Stage II, grinding, bonding, riveting of aluminum components

Aluminum workstation TT_60_00_008667_SH

Different packages for the aluminum workstation are required according to the activities to be

carried out.

2 Market launch of the GLC Coupé (C253) 2.16 Body

T1480E <> Participant Document 57

Stage I operations require a minimum scope of aluminum tools.

For Stage II operations, aluminum tool equipment is required that also has to be spatially sepa-

rated form the workshop area. This can be realized, e.g. through curtains, mobile partitions or

permanently installed partition walls.

When working in the steel area on a hybrid body, the adjacent aluminum components must all

be covered up. This serves to protect the components against flying sparks caused by grinding

work and contact corrosion through steel dust.

Stage III, which involves welding aluminum components, is currently not used for model

series 253.

Workshop equipment and repair stages for aluminum machining (all relevant model series) Minimum scope of aluminum-

specific tools Aluminum workstation with spatial separation and tool scope in accordance with the activities involved

Activities Replacing and removing dents from bolted parts

Grinding, bonding, riveting Welding of structural parts

Stage Stage I Stage II Stage III

(Stage III requires a certificate of qualification in aluminum weld-ing)

The categorization into stages III and III+ that was made with the introduction of model series

197 no longer arises here. It is combined in this presentation into stage III. In aluminum welding

a differentiation is no longer made between non, semi and structural welding. The requirements

governing the qualification of aluminum welding are as shown here.

For welding on aluminum components:

Successful participation in the aluminum welding qualification concept is required

The production of work samples for obtaining the welder test certificate is required every six months

A welder that has been recommended by Daimler must be available and used

i-Size child restraint system on the outer rear seats to securely fasten corresponding child seats with additional upper attachment points on the rear seat backrest

Pedestrian protection

The design of the engine hood and engine components below it creates deformation space that

optimally reduces the loads placed on a pedestrian in an accident.

Additional pedestrian protection measures:

Pedestrian protection with active engine hood that raises by 80 mm when a potential col-lision is detected to create additional deformation space during an impact

BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist helps the driver during braking if pedestrians are de-tected in the hazard area, in combination with Driving Assistance Package Plus

System Overview

Mercedes me connect offers many advantages and new options to the customer. The imple-

mentation of secure online access to vehicles is a challenge. The complexity due to the network

of available systems in the vehicle, IT systems as well as newly created systems has increased.

Due to the networking of the customer's environment via Mercedes me or Mercedes me con-

nect through services to the vehicle, new interfaces are created. This is why it is essential to

know the basic networking of the systems. To be able to clarify in which subarea a solution can

be expected in the event of customer queries.

Various systems are working together for the overall function, which must be considered when

making a diagnosis:

Vehicle-based systems (on-board)

IT systems (off-board)

It is therefore important to find out for a diagnosis in which subarea the solution can be ex-

pected. Please take note of Service Information bulletin SI82.95-P-0004A (notes on introducing

Mercedes me connect) and the corresponding TIPS documents for the diagnosis!
