• The trade with a turnover of US $ 5 Billion has aannual growth rate of 8 % offers a lot of scope fordevelopment.

• With the increase in demand for ornamental fishesespecially in USA, Europe and Japan, manycountries in Asia have started capturing andculturing beautifully coloured ornamental fishes.

• For the effective implementation the beneficiaries will begraded in to 3 categories based on the level of investment

Grade 1 Units are micro scale units set up in a cluster comprising aminimum of 10 units. The maximum assistance per unit inthe cluster of 10 will be Rs. 75000/- or 50 % of the capitalcost which ever is less.

Grade2 Units are small-scale ornamental fish breeding units, whichcan be set up as individual units. The maximum assistancewill be Rs. 2 lakh or 50 % of the capital cost which ever isless.

Grade3 Units are larger individual multi-species ornamental fishbreeding units breeding high value ornamental fishes. Themaximum assistance will be Rs. 7.5 lakh or 50 % of thecapital cost which ever is less.

1. To generate export oriented employment in rural andurban households through ornamental fishproduction.

2. To provide infrastructure required for the productionof ornamental fish.

3. To mass-produce a large number of varieties ofornamental fish species to create a large supply ofornamental fish and increase the overall exports.

4. To promote employment and entrepreneurship in theornamental fish sector by graduates infisheries, aquaculture and biological sciences.

• Apart from the breeding units, in order todevelop effective marketing of ornamentalfishes produced, financial assistance will beprovided to set up Ornamental Fish MarketingSocieties (OFMS) by breeders / entrepreneursand will be registered as per the guidelinesprescribed by MPEDA.

• OFMS can avail maximum financial assistance ofRs. 5 lakh subject to conditions.

From the above discussion it is clear that thereis very good Opportunity for Domestic as wellas International market of Ornamental Fish.There is need to give more emphasis on thissector also. Government needs to formulatesuitable Policy specially to encourage export.
