    - FRANCE-- Ipsos has reported a 5.9% rise in revenue for the third quarter of 2008, up to 234.2m from 221.1m in the

    same period last year, according to figures released late yesterday.For the first nine months of the year, consolidated revenue climbed to 697m from 664.2m in 2007, a rise of 5%.

    Ipsoss advertising research revenue was virtually flat at 150.7m for the first nine months as the firm switched to

    cheaper online data collection methods which depressed revenue growth, the company said.

    - GERMANY-- GfK is trumpeting its continued successful performance, despite losing to WPP in the race to buy TNS.

    The firm has received a 10.6m break fee after WPP secured acceptance from 82% of TNS shareholders for its buyoutbid. The sum fully offsets the cost of the aborted merger negotiations, GfK said in a statement today.

    - FRANCE-- Ipsos has reported 4.5% growth in the first half but flat revenue in North America.

    Underlying growth of 8.4% for the group was dragged down by negative currency effects, the firm said. Total revenue forthe quarter was 462.8m.Organic growth in North America was 1%, while in all other regions it was 10% or more, and in Latin America itreached 20%.

    - US-- Nielsen reported a solid set of numbers for the second quarter today, with revenue up 12% to $1.3bn but financechief Brian West warned that the research giant was starting to feel the effects of the US economic slowdown in itsconsumer services arm.

    - UK-- Ipsos Mori has renewed a three-year contract to conduct the Department of Healths national survey of GP

    patients.As of next year the survey, which goes out to five million patients a year, will be based on a new questionnaire, collectingmore detailed information on the quality of services at individual practices. The survey will also move from annual toquarterly reporting from 2009-2010.

    - US-- Revenue for the top 50 US research agencies was up 6% in 2007 to $7.83bn, according to the latest figures from

    industry watcher Jack Honomichl.Growth for companies at the top end of the table was rooted in the single digits, with only Westat breaking the 10% mark.That revenue spurt pushed the government research specialist to fourth place behind Kantar, IMS Health and Nielsen.Web measurement firm Hitwise bought by data giant Experian in a $240m deal last year was the highest new entry inthe rankings at number 37, coming in six places ahead of Compete another web measurement firm making its
