Today in the ACT Government we have:

• Thousands of data sets – generally silo’d one from the other

• Hundreds (thousands) of business systems

• Some data warehouses

• Masses of data

• Varying maturity

• Some analytical tools

No coherent, holistic approach towards managing and using data

Some of the problems we have today

I can’t find the data I need • Data is scattered everywhere • Who knows who owns it? • Who knows that it exists? • How do I get it?

I can’t understand the data • Experts wanted: apply here • Poorly documented • Is it authoritative • Quality is questionable – or unknown

I can’t use the data I found • Results are unexpected • The privacy attributes are unclear • Data needs to be transformed from one

form to another

Lost

Very Lost

Two high level use cases

What’s in it for me?

• “It takes me forever to do mundane activities, month in, month out”

A catch 22 problem

• “I need to link datasets from across Directorates to gather insights”

• “I am not allowed to see the data from other Directorates due to privacy and legislative constraints”

Improve outcomes for government and community by

maximising the value held in data

Establish a clear case for a whole-of-government,

privacy-centred data management practice

• Queryable

• Programmatically

Analysis & Present

Privacy and Security Centred

If we can show people

There is something in it for me!

• “A data warehouse just for me!”

• “I can save time and money”

That problems are not insoluble

• We can reconcile linking with privacy and security

• We can provide insights easily

This pilot will have proved its worth

If you think you can help…

We want to establish who we are partnering with by the end of this month. Our decision will be based on:

Understanding of the Territory’s objectives

Alignment of deliverables with objectives

Approach to implementation and handover

Value for money

Put forward a proposal – a pitch within the next two weeks

Remember •We want to be moving as quickly as possible.

Something demonstrable this year

• This is a pilot to prove a bigger concept

•We hope to deliver an MVP that we can build bigger and better later on

•We are open to people partnering to create a solution

Register your interest at [email protected] and

• send you a pack

• arrange a time for you to present your ideas and approach
