Melbourne and Toowoomba Hino dealers were recognised at the

truck manufacturer’s annual National Dealer of the Year Awards which took place on 19 April at a function in Sydney.Hino has 44 dealers across Australia, and at the awards, Laverton North’s CMI Hino was named the 2009 Hino Metropolitan Dealer of the Year, while Vanderfield

Hino’s Toowoomba branch in south-east Queensland was named Hino Rural Dealer of the Year – for the fifth time since 2002. The awards are based on a set of criteria that covers performance in sales, service, parts and accessories. CMI Hino dealer principal, Paul Crawford said it was an honour to win this award

and credited the win to the CMI Hino Laverton North staff. He said, “We were delighted to receive the Dealer of the Year award on behalf of all of the CMI Hino staff in Melbourne.”Paul continued, “It is a testament to the leadership of branch manager Mark Dempsey and his sales manager Greg Williams, but the award is much more than that – it is also recognition of the many individuals within the dealership, especially in Fixed Operations. “Knowing that the Dealer of the Year award was won amongst the best Hino dealerships across the country makes it all the more gratifying.”Managing director of Vanderfield Hino, Bruce Vandersee was equally pleased. He commented, “I was a bit surprised to get it this year to be honest, but it’s really nice to win. The guys in our team and their attitude to customers make all the difference.” ■

Isuzu has introduced a range of trucks that operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) and offer a huge reduction in

exhaust emissions as part of its plan to offer consumers with alternative fuel options. Isuzu Australia CEO Phil Taylor said that while Australia doesn’t yet have the ideal traffic conditions for the current generation of hybrid trucks to operate at their peak, CNG power is still a good fit for back to base operators and couriers. The four models in the range are the NLR 200, NPR 300, FSR 750 and FSR 850. Product planning and engineering support manager, Colin White, said that these CNG models are environmentally friendly and offer lower running costs by using a cheaper locally sourced fuel that can also be contracted for long term price stability.“The Isuzu CNG range very comfortably exceeds EURO V and Japanese New Long Term 05 (J-NLT-05) environmental ratings required under ADR 80/03 legislation, not due for introduction until 2011,” said Colin.“These models even meet some performance criteria under proposed EURO VI standards, for which an introduction date is yet to be finalised for Australia.”

This includes zero particulate matter less than 0.2 grams NOx per kilowatt/hour and an overall reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of between 15 and 30 percent. While there are only seven CNG refuelling stations between Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne, Isuzu is confident of more stations opening within the next year. ■
