MARS Silent Auction items HEATHKIT SB-220 Linear Amplifier s/n 139137602 – from estate of N7PM This is a pristine Heathkit KW+ amplifier – appears to have seen very little usage – see photos. No obvious damage or modifications – Eimac 3-500z tubes (date code 7123) and capacitors all appear to be original. High voltage reads 1800v (should be higher.) Currently wired for 120v – easily converted to 240v. Not tested for output due to age. Upgrade kits (capacitors, soft-start, soft-key) are available from Harbach Electronics - https://harbachelectronics.com/product-category/heathkit-sb220-sb221/ - to greatly extend the life of this workhorse amplifier. Original assembly manual is included. Minimum bid will be $300.00. (The similar Ameritron AL-82 with Chinese tubes lists for $2995.00 – which amp would you rather have?)

HEATHKIT

SB-220 Linear Amplifier s/n 139137602 – from estate of N7PM

This is a pristine Heathkit KW+ amplifier – appears to have seen very little usage – see photos.

HW-101 Transceiver with HP-23A Power Supply and SB-650 Digital Frequency Display

Complete Heathkit station from the estate of N7PM (Pat Milligan – call has been re-issued.) The “Hot Water 101” transceiver is a classic. This unit has been modified by N7PM (a Boeing engineer) with RIT control and oscillator output jacks to connect to the rare SB-650 digital frequency display. Nixie tubes on the display light up, but will require three phono cables to connect. External speaker contains the HP-23A power supply. The radio powers up and receives OK – not tested on TX – has factory repair tag from 1975. Original manuals are included. Minimum bid will be $200.00 for the full station package.

HR-10 Ham Band Receiver – Tech Special – from estate of N7PM

Appears to be in good condition, but no RX when connected to external antenna. All tubes light up, audio output to internal speaker, can pick up the signal from its internal crystal calibrator – might just need a new 6BZ6 tube (??) No manual included with this radio – PDF version available from https://www.vintage-radio.info/heathkit/ .

HD-10 Keyer, AK-7 Speaker, and “Tunnel Dipper” will also be offered.

ICOM

IC-761 HF Transceiver – s/n 02183 - donated by N4TNB

This is a large base station from around 1988, which includes internal power supply, CW keyer, FM and AM modes, EX-310 voice synthesizer, and FL-53A narrow CW filter. HF digital modes should be possible using the CI-V (Remote) and ACC1 jacks with a suitable data interface (not included.) Full station package includes SP-20 speaker and SM-8 desk microphone. Transceiver appears to be in full working condition, and comes with the original double box. If you want a radio with knobs and buttons instead of multi-level menus, then take a look at this baby. Minimum bid will be $300.00 for the full station package.

IC-720A HF Transceiver – s/n 10931 – with IC-PS15 s/n 12631 – from estate of N7PM

This is a 1970’s era radio designed for base or mobile operation. The external power supply is switched on/off by the radio. RX and TX appear to be in working condition. Included is a wall wart power supply for memory backup, and the original manual printed in Japanese (along with a reprint of the English manual.) Minimum bid will be $150 for transceiver with power supply.

KENWOOD

TS-520 HF Transceiver – s/n 250700 – from estate of John Schappell W2FFJ

This radio may need some TLC to put it back on the air. Measured 90w out on TX (two 6146B finals,) but RX loses sensitivity after a few minutes. It was probably manufactured in 1974, and is in clean condition. CW filter is installed, but doesn’t have any installed crystals for the Novice mode. Designed for a high impedance microphone (not included) with 4-pin plug. Currently wired for 120vac, but can be used on 240vac, or 13.8vdc (if you want a 34 pound mobile rig.) A reprint of the original manual is included. Minimum bid will be $100.00

TL-922A Linear Amplifier – s/n 5110061 – donated by Mary Weddle WC4T

This is a KW+ amplifier from Kenwood, using a pair of Eimac 3-500Z tubes (date codes not visible.) Currently wired for 240 vac, and appears to be unmodified – even the 10m lockout is still in place. One repair is visible in the power supply – two high wattage resistors have been replaced. Soft-start, soft-keying, filter capacitor, and QSK modification kits are available from several sources to make this vintage amplifier work very well with modern transceivers – see https://harbachelectronics.com/product-category/kenwood-tl-922/ or http://kesslerengineeringllc.com/tl922.html . Instruction Manual, and Service Manual, can be downloaded here – https://www.manualslib.com/manual/646367/Kenwood-Tl-922a.html

Many hams would rather rebuild one of these boat anchors than use a solid state amplifier. Minimum bid will be $200.00

HALLICRAFTERS

S76 General Coverage Receiver – “Tech Special” – donated by N4TNB

This receiver appears to have had some repairs over its long lifespan – power cord and dial cords have been replaced. Some of the tubes light up, but there is no receive. Good condition for its age – but this is for

HQ-170A HF (Ham bands only) receiver – s/n 8735 – from estate of W2FFJ

This classic (1960’s) receiver was made in Mars Hill, NC. It powers up and has audio output (no speaker included,) but not able to receive any signals. Noise Limiter and Slot Filter (notch) appear to be working, and several spare tubes are included. Another “Tech Special” for a ham who enjoys restoring antiques. Includes reprint of original user/maintenance manual. Minimum bid will be $25.00
