Historically, the Ag Tag program has been one of Kentucky 4-H's most rewarding fundraising opportunities. Marshall County 4-H and FFA receive donations from Farm Tags so be sure to support! MARSHALL COUNTY 4-H CLOVER CORNER

4-H Camp 2017 Marshall County is scheduled for 4-H Camp from Wednesday, July 5 through Saturday, July 8, 2017 at West Kentucky 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs. Activity Cancellation Policy

If Marshall County schools are cancelled, dismissed early, or after-school activities called off due to bad weather, then any Marshall County 4-H meeting and/or activity scheduled for the same day is also cancelled. Club leaders also reserve the right to call off a meeting if inclement weather could possibly affect the start or end of a meeting. Club leaders may also cancel or reschedule a 4-H club meeting if there is a change in their personal schedule and another 4-H adult volunteer cannot be found to cover the meeting. Rescheduling of 4-H meetings or activities are dependent on the leaders’ schedules. If you have any questions about these policies, please contact Lena Mallory, Marshall County 4-H Agent, at 527-3285.

What’sLenaBeenUpTo...

So Far in 2017! After-School 4-H Clubs

Conducted Little Bits Circuits with South and North Middle After-School 4-H Clubs in January. /Assisted Courtney with January lessons at the elementary meetings when schedule allowed.

4-H Camp

Starting planning process with camping group for our week of camp – July 5th – July 8th! Promoting camp for not only campers, but counselor recruitment as well./ 4-H Camp Planning Committee meeting on February 24th.

Kentucky 4-H Workforce Prep Curriculum Committee

Serve as a committee member plus writer for chapter on Teamwork.

School Enrichment Programs

Conducted “4-H Health Rocks” at North and South Marshall in January for over 120 students in the 6th – 8th grade Health class./ Conducted “Job Seekers” with South Marshall 8th Grade Consumerism Class (25 students) in January.

Reality Store

Primary coordinator of program for all Marshall County and CFS 8th graders./ Recruitment and confirmation of station chairpersons./ Updates for information distributed to students including price packets, check register, and preparation materials.

Youth Ag Field Day

Will be working with the ANR Agent (Nikki Bell) and Courtney on the Food Jeopardy Station for the 2017 Youth Ag Field Day in mid-April.

Other Responsibilities/Activities

Extension District Board’s January meeting preparation and follow-up plus processing of several required State forms./ Serve as primary coordinator for 4-H Teen Club meetings./ Prepare meeting notices and correspondence for most of the Marshall County 4-H Project Clubs and Helping Hands 4-H Club on a regular basis.

NAE4-HA 2016-17 Immediate Past President Responsibilities

Participate in monthly President’s Council, State Relations and Executive Committee conference calls./ Immediate Past President is the chair of the Organizational Stewardship Committee so working with that committee on NAE4-HA 2017 election of officers and securing chair-elects for committees as needed./

So Far in 2017! After-School 4-H Clubs

Have been working with the Elementary 4-H After-School Clubs plus the 4th and 5th grade classroom clubs at CFS. We did a lesson on financing in December where we went on a “shopping spree.”/ In January we had a lesson on communication where we interviewed characters and talked about the upcoming county communication contest./ In February we have been learning about health and fitness, we have tried new healthy snacks and gotten active by doing 4-H Dance fit.

School Enrichment Programs

Helped Lena with “4-H Health Rocks” at North Marshall Elementary in early January and South Marshall in late January for over 120 students in the 6th – 8th grade Health classes./ Lena and I also worked with Mrs. Chambers’ class at South Marshall Middle School to teach Workforce Readiness.

Attendance at meetings and trainings

Attended Sharp Shooters informational and new member meeting on January 19th./ Attended 4-H Horse Judging Clinic on January 24th./ Have spoken with community volunteers regarding their participation in Reality Store coming up in March.

Planning

Planning Teen Summit workshop with Little Bits./ Planning 4-H day camps to take place this summer./ Planning March and April’s 4-H after-school club lessons.

Will be attending NAE4-HA Spring Board meeting in early March in Indianapolis, IN./ Will be representing NAE4-HA at the PILD Conference in Washington, DC in early April.

National JCEP Board

As of January 1, 2017, serving as the JCEP Treasurer and Chair of the Fiscal Committee./ Attended the JCEP Winter Board meeting and Leadership Conference in mid-February in Orlando, Florida.

HOST A JAPANESE YOUTH in Summer 2017 through States’ 4-H International

Exchange Programs!

Open your home to an exchange student and open your lives to the world!

Hosting Period: 4 weeks (July 23-August 17) Youth Characteristics:

• 12-16 years old (most are 12-14) or adult chaperones • Youth have limited English language skills, and host

families should be prepared to communicate imaginatively

Host Family Requirements:

• You must have a child of the same gender and within 2 years of the hosted youth (families without children of the appropriate age may host an adult chaperone)

• No special activities need to be planned, these youth want to experience American culture, make new friends, and improve their English by staying with your family!

• Volunteer to participate in the program • You don’t need to be involved with 4-H to host
