Challenges and issues in becoming transformational leader

• Transformational leadership requires transparency and empowerment.

• Disconnection between where we have been(mechanical, stability) to where we are going(open systems, organic).

• Sometimes the leader has wonderful ideas, passion, and other transformational traits but people are individualistic rather than team and relationship oriented.

• Instilling transparency and servant qualities which feels like a loss of control in our egoistic and pride environment.

Page 20: Martin Luther King - Case Review

• Accused of leading a revolution : perceived as undoing and tearing down what has been built up in the past

• Common reactions from others feeling intimidated or threatened are to try to break up the team and communication

• The challenge of the day is to nurture and develop ethical leadership in all aspects of society

• Greater need for us to address issues of diversity and tolerance

• Need for change (uncertainty Avoidance ??? )

• People oriented rather than self

How to develop purpose of life

• Have you ever sat down and thought, “What is my purpose in life? What is my passion?

• Did you inherit your sense of purpose from others?

• Have you cultivated a purpose in your life that is uniquely your own?

• Some might say: what would my religion want me to do?

• What would my extended family want me to do?

Page 22: Martin Luther King - Case Review

• Much of really defining your purpose in life is to examine our inherited frameworks and question how much it truly speaks to us instead of simply living it by default.

• Many of us never examine our inherited elements of purpose, so it shapes our lives unconsciously.

• Afraid of investigation and question : no challenge ? Miss to make out purpose on our own.

• Are Your Goals Yours?

• Your purpose comes from where : media, family, friends or yourself?

The fastest way to uncovering your life’s purpose is through the art of introspection: diving into the deeper essences of who you are to pull out the pieces to assemble

• What is your current state?Evaluate your strengths and weakness as well as good and bad habits

• What is your desired state?Examine what it is you hope to improve about yourself and why is it important for you to improve those characteristics.

• How do I get there? What do I need?Determine what knowledge and experiences need to happen in order for you get closer to your desired self.

• What is a plausible timeline?Make a list of activities and events you hope to experience within a set amount of time. Use them as checkpoints that lead towards your goal.

Page 25: Martin Luther King - Case Review

Think of these items as the underlying code of conduct for your journey ( Making purpose)

• I welcome the hard work and tiresome effort it will take to unearth my life’s great work

• I know my purpose might not be directly obvious, but I will put in the time to find it

• I believe finding my purpose is entirely possible

• I know that finding my life’s purpose may lead to some drastic (positive) changes

• I know that finding my life’s purpose will leave me with the power to shape my own destiny
