- Was born on 23th May 1950 in Derry (Southern Ireland)
- Vistited the Christian Brothers Technical school
- McGuinness married Bernadette Canning in 1974
- Has four children
- Is a Gaelic Football fan
Career in the IRA
- He joined the IRA around 1970
- Was about 20 years old
- Two years later he was second-in-command of the IRA in his hometown Derry
- Held that position on Bloody Sunday
- It's assumed, that he supllied IRA terrorists with detonators for nail bombs for that day

- was convicted by the Republic of Ireland's Special Criminal Court in 1973, after being caught with a car containing 250 lb (113 kg) of explosives and nearly 5,000 rounds of ammunition
- went to jail for 6 months

- Got famous for his imprisonment in the IRA and its political Wing Sinn Fein
- was elected to a short-lived assembly at Stormont in 1982, representing Londonderry
- As with all elected members of Sinn Féin and the SDLP he did not take up his seat.
- He was subsequently banned from entering Great Britain under the Prevention of Terrorism Act

- The Irish Tánaiste Michael McDowell claimed, that Adams was a member in the seven man IRA Army Council – Mcguiness denied the claims
- Peter Taylor pictured Mc Guiness in his documetary as head of the IRA's Northern Command, which has many connections to the Enniskillin Bombing

- He became Sinn Féin's chief negotiator
- He became Minister President for Mid Ulster in 1997
- He became Minister for Education
- elected to the Westminster Parliament in 2001 and 2005but refused to take his seat thererefrefusedto take his seat there

- Became deputy first Minister under Ian Paisley and later under Peter Robinson
Mc Guiness and Ian Paisley
- Paisleys party DUP and McGuiness Party Sinn Féin were enemies of each other
(Sinn Féin = Catholic / DUP = Protestant)
- The assembly after the St Andrews Agreement nominated Paisley as first Minister and McGuiness as deputy first Minister
- Paisley didn't talk with him for a long time
- later both started a charm offensive; grew together and symbolized an associated Ireland
