Guidelines for attending Public Masses
As we welcome everyone to Mass during this time of pandemic, Cardinal Sean O’Malley calls us to Take Care of Each Other.
All those attending Masses are encouraged to sign up in advance by one of the following ways:
Visit our website at www.medfordcollaborative.org
Sign up in person at the check-in table when you attend Mass.
Call our office at 781-396-0423 x 103 by Friday at Noon to be added to the sign up list. We remind you of the following pandemic precautions which must be observed:
Everyone attending must wear a mask or face covering.
Please observe social distancing – keep 6 feet apart from each other. Members of a household can sit together in a pew.
To maximize ventilation, some doors and windows will be open. Please dress warmly!
Communion received by hand only. Please watch for our Usher’s directions for the Communion procession.
Congregational singing has been suspended.
Offertory baskets will not be passed during Mass. We encourage you to drop your offering in the baskets, located at the entrances of the Church, as you enter or leave Mass.
If you’re not feeling well or have recently been exposed to COVID-19, please stay home. Our 10am Sunday Mass is livestreamed and can be viewed from our website at www.medfordcollaborative.org. In addition, the Cardinal’s dispensation from the Sunday Obligation remains in place.
Thank you for your cooperation!
The Grateful Discipleship Program: GIVING AS A RESPONSE
As Mary, Queen of Peace Parish prepares for The Grateful Discipleship Program, we are challenged to evaluate our lives and give back a just portion of our blessings to God. In spite of the difficult times, we are fortunate people. Our thanks for these and many other blessings should be reflected in what we give to advance Christ’s mission in our community. Next week, you will receive a letter from Father Paul describing this initiative and how each parishioner can be involved. It is an opportunity for all of us to take an active role in the growth of our parish and for each parishioner to practice the principle of stewardship — giving back a portion of our blessings to God. Remember, giving opportunities come in many forms, not just financial. Give of yourself as a volunteer and set aside time for prayer and spiritual growth. You could commit a portion of your time to saying the Rosary or attending daily Mass and Adoration. You could commit a portion of your talents to volunteering in the parish. “What you give will be returned tenfold.” Remember, our goal for this first year is to receive commitment forms from 300 families. Will you help us reach our goal? Please prayerfully consider what you can do and return your commitment form by January 24, 2020. Please also consider joining one of our virtual Bible studies on stewardship. You can sign up for any of the various times by visiting our website or calling the Parish Office at 781-396-0423.

Christmas Collection: Clergy Health & Retirement Trust
On behalf of our priests in good standing, thank you for your support of the Christmas collection for the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust. RCIA
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Are you an adult who has not yet been baptized and would like to explore the possibility of being baptized?
Are you an adult who was baptized in a non-Catholic Christian community and would be interested in entering into full communion with the Catholic Church?
Are you an adult who was baptized in the Catholic Church as a child, never received further faith formation, and would like to pursue reception of the sacraments beyond baptism?
Are you an adult who did not complete your Religious Education and would like to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
If any of these descriptions applies to you, please consider your possible participation in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – RCIA. Please feel free to pass this notice on to a family member or friend.
The RCIA is the process of spiritual and catechetical formation through which adults decide to be baptized or enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.
If you are interested, have any questions or would like to participate, please contact the parish office or Fr. Peter Shen at [email protected]
Classes begin the first Sunday of January 2021!
GRAND ANNUAL UPDATE
We are approaching the end of our Grand Annual Campaign! We are so grateful to all the parishioners who have supported this campaign! With the final month left to go, we still have some ground to cover. Your help in reaching our goal is needed and most appreciated!
This collection is critical to maintaining the financial stability of our parishes, especially during this challenging time of pandemic. Our Weekly Offertory alone doesn’t cover all our operating expenses. The Grand Annual collection is the bridge that allows us to do so. Especially at this time of year, this collection helps us meet the increased utilities and maintenance costs associated with the cold months coming ahead.
The campaign will be in effect until January 2021. If you haven’t made your contribution, we respectfully ask for your prayerful consideration and generosity. We also offer an on-line donation option, for your convenience. It can be accessed through our website at www.medfordcollaborative.org/online-giving. Following is a summary of the campaign’s progress to date: Mary, Queen of Peace Parish St. Joseph & St. Francis of Assisi
Goal: $80,000 $ Collected: $41,644 % Collected: 52%

Year End Tax Planning Considerations
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act includes an expanded charitable giving incentive which is a critical acknowledgement by Congress that the work of nonprofit organizations, such as our Parish, is an essential service. It is the first time Congress has passed this type of giving incentive in response to a disaster or national emergency. Here’s How it Works New Deduction Available: The bill makes a new deduction available for up to $300 per taxpayer ($600 for a married couple) in annual charitable cash contributions to a qualified charity. This is particularly beneficial to people who take the standard deduction when filing their taxes (in other words for taxpayers who do not itemize their deductions). It is calculated by subtracting the amount of the donation from your gross income. It is an “above the line” adjustment to income that will reduce your taxable income. New Charitable Deduction Limits: Also part of the bill, individuals and corporations that itemize can deduct much greater amounts of their contributions. Individuals can elect to deduct cash contributions up to 100% of their 2020 adjusted gross income on itemized 2020 tax returns. This is up from the previous limit of 60%. Corporations may deduct up to 25% of taxable income, up from the previous limit of 10%.
A very heartfelt thank you for your generous and continued financial support of our parish through your offertory
contributions! Your donations help us continue our ministry and service to our parish community during these challenging times.
When making financial donations to our new Parish, please continue to make checks payable to: Saint Joseph – Saint Francis of Assisi Parish.
During this transitional time, our on-line giving systems will remain unchanged. In the coming weeks, our on-line giving system will also merge and will change. We will reach out to all those who participate in on-line giving to guide you through this change.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our Parish Office by phone at 781-396-0423 or by e-mail at [email protected] if you have any questions or need assistance. Mary, Queen of Peace Parish St. Joseph & St. Francis of Assisi
Our December 20 Collections will be reported in next weekend’s bulletin.
