Letter from the Editor

It’s that time again!! Time to get your rain dance happening again! Dry and dusty, lets hope some spring rain isn’t too far away. Something else not far away is the Fraser Coast All Breeds. An action packed weekend with classes for every horse! If you haven’t done it yet, check out the website for the program and head to nominate.com.au to nominate. Good luck to all of our members competing! Other than the All Breeds, we have some coaching days and a fun day left for the year, so check them out below. DON’T FORGET, our Christmas party and awards night will be here before we know it, mark it on your calendars and keep an eye out for details to come! Sam Howard Newsletter editor

DRESSAGE REPORT September 2017 Fraser Coast Dressage Championships Our big dressage event for the year was held on 12th and 13th August and we feel it was very successful. Two rings were operating, one in the Eastern Arena and the other in the Covered Arena. Classes for the Prelim and Novice tests had more entrants than last year but we had fewer entries in the higher levels. Perhaps that means we have more riders now bringing their younger or greener horses up through the grades. We had competitors travelling from as far as the Gold Coast and the Mackay areas. A new innovation was to have the freestyles held late in the afternoon on Saturday and it was good to see other riders taking the time to watch these classes. Afterwards, at the presentations for the day, we arranged to have platters of nibbles for all to enjoy while taking the time to socialise after a long day of competition and this small gesture seemed to be much appreciated. After the weekend, it was very gratifying to receive notes from competitors congratulating MARC on a great competition and also appreciating the very many sponsors who contributed money and prizes. Congratulations and huge thanks to all our members who rode, judged, scored or helped in so many other ways to make the event a success. We look forward to the 2018 champs being even more successful.

EQ Inter-Club Challenge At the moment, MARC appears to be third on the leaderboard for this year’s inter-club challenge. Caboolture is first, Maranoa is second at this stage. This may change as recent results are collated by EQ, but it is a pleasing result so far. Well done everyone who has competed and done well to achieve this. Training Day, 2nd September The dressage training day on 2nd September did not have a lot of entries but it was a perfect day for those with young or green horses to come along and have a chance to get in front of a judge in the covered arena. The feedback after each test by judges Pam Thurlow and Sue Dale was much appreciated by the riders, especially as there was time to give everybody plenty of help. On the occasions when riders did two tests on the day, it was evident that they had taken on board the suggestions after their first go, with more relaxed and happy horses and riders. Well done everyone. Roslyn Barker Assistant Dressage Co-ordinator 12th September 2017

Show Prep Rally with Petrea Bates 9th September. This event was held at the Mungar neighbourhood arena, and though the group was small, the day was well received. Petrea was able to give both general and specific presentation tips- eg what sort of dye to use for tails (Clairol Nice & Easy), how to do neat forelock plaits and pull them up inside so they don’t “bob”, and how to put in, trim and remove false tails. Some of the group had specific presentation queries and were able to practice them. Then all the riders were able to ride some hack workouts, some opting for low speed walk and trot workouts, while others practiced their canter work and faster routines. There was even the availability for less experienced horses to simply be lunged and just “hang out” with a group. All in all the day was well received, everyone came away with some valuable knowledge. Thanks to Petrea for her calm and friendly advice, and to Anna and Jim for providing the Arena and usual friendly ambience, tea coffee and sausage sizzle. Photos and article by Sue Thurlow

MARC Christmas Party & Awards night – Saturday 9th December

Mark 9th December on your calendars now! Let your work colleagues (and partners) know so we can avoid clashing with any work Christmas parties that night!

Once again, we have decided to hold the party at a member’s home with everyone contributing a “plate” as this makes for a great relaxed social event but keeps the costs down. (And some MARC members are amazing cooks!)

Pam Thurlow has offered to have the party at her home in Teddington Road, Tinana, and all are welcome. More details to follow – but mark 9th December on your calendars now and we hope that everyone can attend – plenty of room (even if it rains) and the more, the merrier!
