Refugee Day at Tallebudgera CreekEvery year the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Group unites with their Woodridge branch and gives new refugees to Australia a day at Tallebudgera Creek. The Marymount community has supported this wonderful day for years now. This year the date for this event is the first Saturday of Term 2.

Saturday 21st April9.30amTallebudgera Creek

We need your help! Please go through your cupboards this weekend as we need swimmers for children, men and women (please no bikinis as the women are very modest). They all need towels (bath or beach towels), hats, backpacks, wet shirts and the women love to cover up in sarongs. Please make sure the items are clean with no holes or rips. Please do not send other second hand clothing as there is no room on the bus for them.

The children appreciate any beach toys like plastic buckets and spades, Frisbees or any type of football or soccer ball. Please don’t send broken toys. Your child can place their items in the basket in their classroom and a band of Marymount helpers will make sure they all get there on the day. Please send them in before the holidays or before the first Wednesday of Term 2.

Your family is very welcome to join us at the creek that day. The buses arrive at around 9:30am. You are asked to bring your own lunch as St Vincent De Paul only provides food for the visitors. This is our opportunity to share our good fortune with our brothers and sisters who have suffered much hardship.

Thanks for your supportJane Lennon

NAPLAN Online UpdateThis week, I had the opportunity to update our P&F group regarding NAPLAN Online. I have placed this presentation on the Parent Portal with all other NAPLAN Online information. Firstly, we discussed the idea of Tailored Testing, which is major feature of the online testing environment. This means that although the test is still standardised, students will receive questions of varying complexity in response to how they are tracking during the test. This aims to ensure that each student experiences success in the testing environment, our students are extended if required and that we receive more specific information about what our students can do.

Secondly, we visited the public demonstration site at www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment to get an idea of the types of questions our students would expect. This website is available to everyone and we encourage all parents to take the time to explore.

Year 3 and 5 students will sit their NAPLAN Online practice test on Thursday 22nd March. This is a great opportunity for our students to become familiar with the online platform and experience exactly what it will be like when they sit for their formal NAPLAN Online assessment in late May.

This practice test also provides an additional opportunity for students to become familiar with the types of questions they will encounter in NAPLAN Online. The 45-minute test includes numeracy, conventions of language and reading questions, but not writing.

Please visit our Parent Portal to explore all relevant information for parents.

Enjoy the rest of the week

Patron Parents At Marymount Primary, we proudly say that we are a community. Our mission statement explicitly talks about:

a Growing Catholic community a Building a learning community a Developing a child centred communitya Fostering school community anda Providing an inclusive community

All of these statements indicate the ongoing nature of our work together. We continually respond to changing times and influences, to improve our practice and outcomes for our members, both adults and children.

We thank the group of parent volunteers below who have accepted our invitation to act in a pastoral role, particularly among the families and parent groups in the school. Their role is to facilitate caring and welcoming practices among new and existing families. This might involve social outings, organising play-gatherings during the holidays or assisting new families with becoming familiar in the ways of our school. They are not expected to be counsellors, trouble-shooters or mediators in conflict.

Oceanic Rugby LeagueCongratulations to Ben Browne and Cooper Bai who have been selected in the Oceanic District Rugby League teams for U11s and U12s respectively. Both boys will play at the Regional Rugby League Carnival at Runaway Bay on 17th and 18th April. Well done boys and good luck at the Regional Carnival.
