NEWSLETTER Term 2, Wk 2, 3rd May 2017 Welcome back for Term 2. I trust
that you enjoyed the break from making school lunches, ironing school uniforms and doing homework. I also trust that the new term has started well for you and your children. Stage 3 started the term by attending camp at Broken Bay. In the coming weeks, they will share some stories with you about their experiences. In the meantime, I would like to thank Ms Andreu, Miss Hamilton, Miss Aynie and Mr King for accompanying the students on this overnight excursion. If their stories are anything to go by, the trip will be a memorable one for students for a lifetime. Back at school, we acknowledged ANZAC Day at a whole school assembly. Mrs Worthington (with Miss Aynie’s support) was extremely professional and respectful in remembering all Australians and New Zealanders who have served in wars around the world. Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the NAPLAN assessments on Tuesday 9th May, Wednesday 10th May and Thursday 11th May. Please
ensure that your child is at school on time each of these days. We provide pencils for the students to use during the tests but students must provide their own eraser and pencil sharpener. Next week, we also start our new band program for Years 3 to 6 students with the support of Mr Chapman from JJ Cahill Memorial High School. Together with our own music teacher, Ms Young, band will be conducted from 8am to 9:30am on Thursdays. Please see Ms Young if you require further information.
Have a great week. HELEN EMPACHER PRINCIPAL

Rainy Day Activities
Keeping kids active and occupied during wet days can be challenging. Here are some active indoor play ideas: Build a cubby house with sheets, chairs or
cardboard boxes Play ‘hide and seek’ Play basket softball and see how many times you
can throw a foam ball into a washing basket - keep increasing the distance to make it more challenging
Have a dance competition or disco at home Make some play dough and enjoy being creative
with it Set a limit on the amount of time children spend
in front of a screen (tv, computer etc).
Fundamental Movement Skills There are 12 fundamental movement skills (FMS) that form the building blocks children need to enjoy participating in games and sports throughout their lives. The 12 fundamental movement skills are: Catching Running Leaping Kicking Hopping Striking a stationary ball Overarm throwing Bouncing Underarm rolling Side sliding Galloping Jumping Children need to practise and develop these skills as they do not naturally learn them as part of their normal growth and development. Our service provides daily play-based FMS experiences for all children. For older toddlers and preschoolers, these FMS experiences can also include a warm-up, followed by a game (focussing on one or more FMS) and a cool-down.
