Mass Effect: Garrus Amigurumi

I don’t own Mass Effect or Bioware. Feel free to use and share the pattern, but please don’t sell it or the amigurumi. This is an intermediate pattern, suitable for beginners if you know the basic stitches. Stitches used are single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), treble crochet (tc), increase (inc), and invisible decrease (invdec). Finished figure is approximately 6”/15cm tall.

What you’ll need - yarn in light gray, dark gray, blue, and brown (worsted weight)

- felt in light gray, black, blue, light blue, textured gray (for scars) - safety eyes (15mm shown here) - size F/3.75 mm crochet hook (if using worsted weight yarn)

- yarn needle to sew pieces together and sewing needle and thread to sew felt onto head and neck - stuffing - wire or pipecleaners to hold fringe up (I used earring wires)

Head and body

- start with brown yarn, work in the round

1)  6 sc in magic ring (6) 2)  inc x 6 (12) 3)  *sc, inc* x 6 (18)

4)  *sc x 2, inc* x 6 (24) 5) *sc, x 3, inc* x 6 (30)

6-9) sc around for 4 rounds (30) 10) *sc x 3, invdec* x 6 (24) 11)  *sc x 2, invdec* x 6 (18)

12)  *sc, invdec* x 6 (12) 13)  sc around (12), add safety eyes and stuff head, stick wires through for fringe

14)  switch to light gray yarn, sc around (12) 15)  *sc, inc* x 6 (18) 16-22) sc around for 7 rounds (18)

Assembly

- sew legs to body (stuff lightly) - sew armour to body, arms to sides of armour (stuff lightly), then shoulders to arms

- cut out felt pieces from template and sew them to face and head… this is the tricky part and will take some time (sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to make Garrus’ face in crochet)… see next page for more info

All the pieces should be light gray felt except for the two marked. They are sized for the figure I actually made, so you may need to make them a little bigger or smaller depending on your yarn and hook size and how much tension you use when you crochet (the proportions should stay the same, though).

This will take a bit of time to cut out and sew on… glue would be faster but less durable.

Start by sandwiching the wires between the two fringe pieces, then add the big face piece, then add the bottom of the mouth and mandibles. You can use a Sharpie for the face markings if you don’t want to use felt, but I like the plushie effect. To make the markings, I sewed pieces of blue felt in rough shapes onto Garrus’ face, then trimmed them down to size (they’re quite small and I found this approach easier than trying to sew on tiny pieces).
