My dear friends, This is my last weekend at the parish, and I wanted to express my gratitude to you all. These past three years have been a whirlwind of experiences, many of which were joyful—like the celebrations and invitations to visit you, and the liturgies we had—others of which were challenging. We even experienced a world pandemic together! Yet in all, you showed support, generosity and kindness. For all these, I want to thank Msgr. Al, the staff, volunteers and all the wonderful parishioners of IHM for walking with me and being patient while I learned how to be a priest. I think you taught me very well. It is with profound gratitude and love that I leave for my new assignment, and I pray that God will continue to bless you always. In Christ, Fr. Carlos

FATHER’S DAY NOVENA Monsignor Al will offer a novena of Masses for the inten-tions of our fathers, living and deceased, beginning this weekend. If you would like to participate in this novena, please submit your father’s name on the form enclosed with your June church envelopes. Extras are available in the church narthex.

FAREWELL, FATHER CARLOS! This Weekend! Archbishop Hartmayer has appointed Father Carlos Ortega as pastor of St. Clement Catholic Church in Calhoun, GA, effective July 1. Please plan to join us for a parish farewell celebration for him this weekend after each Mass in the church lower level. And please keep Father Carlos in your prayers as he prepares for this transition to his new ministry.

WELCOME, FATHER ROBBIE! July 1 The Archbishop has appointed Father Robbie Cotta to be IHM’s next parochi-al vicar, beginning on July 1. Born and raised in Alpharetta, he is a graduate of Chattahoochee High School and Geor-gia Southern University. He studied theology at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago, where he earned the Master of Divinity degree. Read more about Father Robbie. Father Robbie was ordained to the priesthood on Saturday. Please keep him in your prayers as he prepares to begin his priestly ministry at IHM.

FROM THE AIDS MINISTRY June 27, National HIV Testing Day, encourages persons to get tested, know their status, and get linked to care and/or prevention services. Despite increased general HIV testing rates, persons who have HIV infection for years before be-ing diagnosed may unknowingly transmit infection. Now more than ever, prevention and treatment tools are available. Prompt HIV diagnosis is the first step to starting antiretrovi-ral therapy (ART), to preserve and improve health, and pre-vent transmission.

This year’s theme is “My Test, My Way”, emphasizing that there are different ways and places to get tested for HIV, including at home with a self-test. HIV testing is easy, fast, confidential and safe. Right now, many local health depart-ments and community-based organizations, as well as CDC, are distributing free HIV self-testing kits. Learn more about self-tests at https://bit.ly/2AhexD6 .

You can always ask your health care provider to test you for HIV or learn where to get tested by visiting gettest-ed.cdc.gov, texting your zip code to KNOW-IT (566948), or calling 1-800-CDC-INFO (232-4636). Learn more about how to prevent HIV infection at https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/prevention.html.

Heavenly Father, we ask you to send your Spirit

to HIV positive persons unaware of their infection. Help them take an HIV test and, if necessary,

begin treatment promptly.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL HANDYMAN If you need a handyman to help with small jobs around the house, you can hire a Safe Environment-approved volunteer from the IHM St. Vincent de Paul Conference to help you with your work. Simply make a donation SVDP of $25.00 for every hour the volunteer spends on your job. If you need assistance with small jobs around the house, call 770-986-4996 and ask for Dirk.

A PRAYER FOR OUR FATHERS

God, our Father

bless our fathers,

that they may be strengthened

in the vocation of fatherhood.

Let the example of their faith

and love shine forth.

Grant that we,

their sons and daughters,

may honor them always

with a spirit of profound respect.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

THE FAITH FORMATION TEAM NEEDS YOU It is a joy to see more familiar faces returning to church as vaccinations take ef-fect! Plans are already underway for next year’s faith formation programs. We pray that a full return to in-person learning will be possible for the 2021-2022 school year, which will require a full team of passionate, faithful, and reliable adult volunteers. If you are interested in any of our ministries, whether elementary school catechesis, youth ministry, or sacramental preparation, please contact us (information on sidebar above). We look forward to meeting you!

FAITH FORMATION ENROLLMENT 2021-2022 Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year is now open at https://www.ihmatlanta.org/enrollment2021. Online enrollment is available for all pro-grams: G.I.F.T. (K-5th Grade), Edge (Middle School Youth Ministry) and Life Teen (High School Youth Ministry), as well as sacramental preparation classes. Keep in mind:

Preparation for First Holy Communion is a two-year process that typically oc-curs in 1st and 2nd grade.

Preparation for Confirmation is also a two-year process that typically occurs in 9th and 10th grade.

Students who attend Catholic schools still need to enroll for sacramental prepa-ration at the parish, even though they will receive the majority of their for-mation at school.

In planning for the 2021-22 school year, we will continue to follow the most cur-rent public health guidelines and the policies of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Our hope is to offer all programs in person, with safety measures implemented as nec-essary. Zoom meetings may continue to be used in certain situations--for instance, family catechesis sessions or parent meetings, or even in case of inclement weather-- but there will not be a "fully virtual" alternative for faith formation next year.

All programs will begin on Sunday, August 22.

Scan the QR Code to enroll your children, grades K-12, in our Sunday School and

Youth Ministry programs for next school year. The deadline to enroll is July 31.

Questions? Contact Veronica Thimann at 404-954-2822 or [email protected].
