It ought to be a comfort to us to know exact-ly what is on the final exam. We can undoubtedly recall times when we spent hours studying a whole semester’s work, not knowing what would be on the test. But thanks to today’s Gospel, we know how we can inherit eternal life. Those who are wel-comed into the kingdom fed the hungry, welcomed the stranger, clothed the naked, cared for the ill, and visited the imprisoned. Will we take advantage of knowing the questions in advance?

Few of us are virtuous enough to care for the least among us all the time, in every circum-stance. Hopefully none of us totally ignore the needy. We likely fall somewhere in between, help-ing when we feel we can, but ignoring the needy at other times and in some circumstances. Often we choose to spend that money on ourselves or spend that extra time on something we enjoy. We can pray for the grace to make us more generous, at the same time hoping God’s mercy is even more gen-erous.

Jesus spent his entire public ministry help-ing those in need: healing the sick, driving out de-mons, feeding thousands, washing his disciples’ feet, finally giving his life for our sins. But Jesus also asked the woman at the well to draw water for him, reclined at table and allowed Martha to serve him, and accepted the anointing with expensive perfumed oil by the woman in Bethany. Christ is in us all, giver and recipient, and it is in acts of mercy between two people that he can be seen.

Religious EducationThanks to those of you who signed up your chil-dren for Sacramental Preparation. The Catecheti-cal team is developing a plan for classes for chil-dren in K - 11th grade in accordance with safety regulations for COVID 19. There will be a parent meeting for Parents and students preparing for First Communion on Saturday, December 5 at 10:00 am in the Parish Center. The Confirmation parent and student meeting will be on Sunday, December 5 at 11:30 am in the Parish Center.

Prayer for Hurricane SeasonO God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Gali-lee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of the land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a pro-voked and angry giant, can awake from its seem-ing lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade the land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to you, Oh Loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of grat-itude, we will walk in the footsteps of your DivineSon to reach heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen.
