WEEKLY MASS INTETIONS

It is my pleasure to say ‘thank you’ to all who a ended the two day Parish Mini Mission held here on October 25 and 26 by Frank Runyeon. All those who showed up said ’it was wonderful’. And also they said many more should have come to learn from the powerful performance by the Hollywood Actor that was relevant to the me of today. I thank all volunteers and assistants who rendered different services toward the success of the program. My thanks go to the mem-bers of Altar Society for generously providing refreshments on October 25 and Knights of Columbus doing it on the 26th a er the program. A very special thanks to Doris Jenkins who took trouble to get everything organized for the said mis-sion. The performance by Frank on the Sermon on the Mount and Hollywood versus Faith was eye opener for many to learn how we are influenced by the commercials. They in fact lead us astray from the real world to live in an unreal world. In his presenta on, he highlighted the three modern trends catching up in contrast to the Sermon on the Mount that is to have more, to look young and to be a winner. Such ideas are being bombarded in the media day in and day out by different media companies and corpora ons to sell their goods & products and so we the Americans are easily drawn to it. I wish our younger genera on a ended such program before they are carried away by media glamour. On be-half of the Parish, I extend many thanks and apprecia on to Frank Runyeon for his wonderful performance. May the Lord con nue to guide him in his mission to tell bible stories in drama c and most effec ve way to the present day genera-

on? I would like to inform you that 9th Street Chris an Church has readily accepted our request to host our annual Santa Workshop in their premises on December 8 as planned due to the church construc on here. Please pass the word around. As our church improvement project is picking up speed, we look up to you for your generous dona ons. All those who have not turned in pledges/dona ons, please come forward with your mely assistance. As per the project schedule, the last day for Mass in the church will be on November 11th. Therea er, all Masses will be done in the Catholic Center un l the church will be ready for Christmas. And so, a er Sunday Mass on the 11th, I request you all to help us out to shi things to Hall and set up the place for Mass. During the month of November, we remember the diseased members of our family and friends and so you can write the names of the persons whom you would like to pray for in the register placed at the back of the Church. We will pray for them at Mass. I have given the brief document on the recent Synod on young people for the parents, catechists and teachers to read and guide our younger genera on in their journey of faith. The Synod on Young People: What does the Final Document Say? On Saturday a ernoon, the Final Document of the XV Ordinary General Assem-bly of the Synod of Bishops consis ng of 3 parts, 12 chapters, 167 paragraphs and 60 pages is approved in the Synod Hall.

ANNOUNCEMENTS&ACTIVITIESThe text was received with applause, Cardinal da Rocha said. It is “the result of real teamwork” on the part of the Synod Fathers, together with other Synod par cipants and “the young people in a par cu-lar way”. The Document, therefore, gathers the 364 modifica ons, or amendments, that were pre-sented. “Most of them,” the Cardinal said, “were precise and construc ve”. Furthermore, the en re document passed with the necessary 2/3 majority vo ng in favor. The inspira on for the Final Document for the Synod on Youth is the episode of the disciples of Em-maus, recounted by the evangelist Luke. It was read in the Synod Hall by the Rapporteur General, Cardinal Sérgio da Rocha, by the Special Secretaries, Fr Giacomo Costa and Fr Rossano Sala, together with Bishop Bruno Forte, a member of the Commission for the dra ing of the text. It is complemen-tary to the Instrumentum laboris of the Synod, and follows the three-part subdivision. Part One: “He walked with them "The first part of the document considers concrete aspects of young people’s lives. It emphasizes the important of schools and parishes. It acknowledges the need for laity to be trained to accompany young people especially since so many priests and bishops are already overburdened. The Document notes the irreplaceable role of Catholic educa onal ins tu ons. The challenge the Document addresses is the need to rethink the role of the parish in terms of its voca-

onal mission because it is o en ineffec ve and not very dynamic, above all in the realm of catech-esis. The reality of young people regarding migra on, abuse, the “throwaway culture” are also dwelt on in part one. Regarding abuse, the Synod Document calls for a “firm commitment for the adop on of rigorous preven ve measures that will keep such abuse from being repeated, beginning with the se-lec on and forma on of those to whom leadership and educa onal roles are entrusted”. The world of art, music and sports is also discussed in terms of using them as “pastoral resources”. Part Two: “Their eyes were opened "The Synod Document calls young people one of the “theological places” in which the Lord makes himself present. Thanks to them, it says, the Church can renew her-self, shaking off its “heaviness and slowness”. Mission, it says is a “sure compass” for youth since it is the gi of self that brings an authen c and las ng happiness. Closely connected with the concept of mission is voca on. Every bap smal voca on is a call to holiness. Two other aspects covered in part two that aid in the development of the mission and voca on of young people are that of accompaniment and discernment. Part Three: “They le without delay” The icon presented by the Synod Fathers of the young Church is Mary Magdalene, the first witness of the Resurrec on. All young people, the Synod Fathers affirm, including those with different visions of life, are in God’s heart. “Walking together” is the synodal dynamic which the Fathers also bring to light in the part three. They invite the Conferences of Bishops’ around the world to con nue the process of discernment with the aim of developing specific pastoral solu ons. The defini on of “synodality” provided is a style for mis-sion that encourages us to move from "I" to "we" and to consider the mul plicity of faces, sensi vi-

es, origins and cultures. One request repeatedly made in the hall, was that of establishing a "Directory of youth ministry in a voca onal key" on the na onal level, that can help diocesan and parish leaders qualify their training and ac on "with" and "for" young people, helping to overcome a certain fragmenta on of the pastoral care of the Church. The Synod Document reminds families and Chris an communi es of the importance of accompanying young people to discover the gi of their sexuality. The bishops recognize the Church's difficulty in transmi ng "the beauty of the Chris an vision of sexuality" in the current cultural context. It is ur-gent, the document says, to seek "more appropriate ways which are translated concretely into the development of renewed forma ve paths". In the end, the Document brings the various topics covered in the Synod into one voca onal thrust, that is, the call to holiness. "Voca onal differences are gathered in the unique and universal call to holiness”. Through the holiness of so many young people willing to renounce life in the midst of perse-cu on in order to remain faithful to the Gospel, the Church can renew its spiritual ardor and its apos-tolic vigor.
