Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time September 1, 2019

The Gospel today talks about the virtue of humility, so I am going to share some of my favorite quotes on humility from some luminaries in our Catholic faith. Blessings to all you - have a blessed week. Father Lin-coln. “You must always humble yourself lovingly before God and before men, because God speaks only to those who are truly humble and He enriches them with His gifts.“ (St Padre Pio - 1887 -1968) To be taken with love for a soul, God does not look on its greatness, but the greatness of its humility. (St John of the Cross - 1542 - 1591) "No one reaches the kingdom of Heaven except by humility”. (St Augus-tine of Hippo - 354 - 430) “Humility must always be doing its work in us like a bee making its honey in the hive: without humility, all will be lost.” (St Teresa of Avila - 1515 - 1582) “The most powerful weapon to conquer the devil is humility. For, as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to de-fend himself from it.” (St Vincent de Paul - 1581 - 1660) “Humility is an attitude of honesty with God, oneself, and of all reality. Stewardship Thought

In the Gospel today, Jesus warns us not to give in to hopes of repayment, but to give openhandedly to the poor and needy. That sort of giving mirrors the bountiful giving of God, and Jesus assures us it is blessed indeed!

closed.

Join us on the First Fridays for 24 hours of Eucharistic Adoration in the Prayer Chapel.

fore ordination to the Diaconate. Those given the ministry of Lector are

entrusted with reading the Sacred Scriptures during Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours. Each candi-

The Catholic Church has always demonstrated a concern for children. The Dio-cese of Jackson is committed to ensuring that children served by the church are not at risk of sexual abuse by the Church personnel.

Diocesan policies and procedures currently in place seek to protect, enhance and, in some cases, restore the trust that our faith calls for between agents of the Church and the children and adolescents entrusted to our care. In accord-

ance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People passed by the U.S. bishops in Dallas, the Diocese of Jackson wishes to encourage any victim of sexual abuse by a member of the Catholic Clergy to come forward and begin the healing process. When an allegation is found to be credible, counseling will be offered, so that the healing process can begin in accord with our present diocesan policy. We encourage any victim to contact Ms. Valerie McClellan, Victims Assistance Coordinator at 601-326-3728.

The 33rd annual St. Joseph Catholic Church Gluckstadt German-Fest is Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The family-oriented festival is best known for its delicious German food and authentic German Folk music provided by the band, Polkameisters from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Advance meal tick-ets are $6 and are available from parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church or by calling the parish office at 601-856-2054. Meals the day of the festival will be $7.
