Mass Wasting Found in Fish Bukid

Since mass wasting is the subject that we're looking for, I decided to go to Fish Bukid because I thought it might be an ideal location for mass wasting. Fish Bukid is just a term used by fellow UPV students this refers to the hill beside the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. It is one of the most elevated part of the University of the Philippines Visayas Campus. This hill overlooks the OWL on one side and some family restaurants in the other. This is the perfect place to go when watching meteor showers. The above photo is taken from the farthest part of Fish Bukid, where the slope of the hill is steepest.

As you can see from the photo, gravity played a major role for mass wasting to occur and the steepness also gave it a little boost. I even had a hard time in taking the photo and keeping myself from sliding down the hill. Vegetation, like grass, bushes and trees, were also present on the area of where mass wasting occurred. The materials present on the mass wasting found in Fish Bukid is soil. However, it may become mud during a heavy rainfall. The type of motion the mass wasting have, based on the photo, is slide, since the original form of the land mass is still intact and we can easily identify which part of the mass wasting was supposed to be attached on the side of the hill. The rate of movement for the subject mass wasting must have been a slump since a part of the hill went downward as a large single unit of land mass. The slump might have been caused by the constant weathering of base materials which weakened one side of the hill. It might have took several years for the mass wasting to be as clear as it looks in personal. It even surprised me of how large it was when I saw the mass wasting.
