Dear Friends: Wanted to let you know about our new neighbors. Since the closing of our parish school a few back, we've been seeking to find a good use for the school building beyond our regular use for Reli-gious Education and Parish Outreach. We're blessed to have the building used Monday through Friday by the Senior Citizens programs and services of Catholic Charities. And in the past month, a new group of good people have moved into the Our Lady of Lourdes School Building. They are the Finance Office of the Diocese of Rock-ville Centre, including the CFO of the Diocese, Mr. Kevin Murphy. They have begun a long-term lease on several rooms in the building, including the old Principal's Office! We're delighted to welcome the folks from diocesan finance. Aside from the fact that they perform admi-rable service for the church on Long Island, they'll also provide financial support which helps us to de-fray the costs of maintaining a large Parish Center like the one we're blessed to have. So in your name, I welcome our new business resi-dents and hope their time at Our Lady of Lourdes will be a happy and productive time for them. I met this week with representatives of a company which installs rails for the purpose of helping people climb stairs without difficulty. My plan is to install two rails on either side of the altar so that lectors and Eucharist Ministers can climb the sanctuary stairs with less risk of falling. Our marble floors and steps are very beautiful, but they're also slippery. I'd rather take this preventative step to assure safe ascendancy up and down the stairs. I have confidence that the workers will install two rails which will both provide safety and look appropriate to the altar area. And on behalf of all of us here at Our Lady of Lourdes, I want to extend our support, prayers and condolences to the families and friends of the young people who perished recently in Farmingdale. The accident was every parent's worst nightmare and our hope is that our prayers might offer some small con-solation to these good people who are emotionally suffering so much.

St. Kilian's Parish in Farmingdale recently received word of a new Pastor being appointed. His name is Father Bruce Powers. He replaces Monsignor Mi-chael Flynn, who has taken another assignment. We wish Father Bruce a good stay at St. Kilian's Parish and thank Monsignor Flynn for his years of service to the Farmingdale community. Have a peace-filled week. In His Love, Monsignor Jim Lisante Pastor

Our Parish depends solely on your generosity to meet each week’s expenses. Our regular Sunday collections account for more than 60% of our operating budget. Your continued support, especially during these difficult economic times, is both needed and appreciated.

Last week you donated $ 17,515.83

Thank you

Our Lady of Lourdes’ Memorial Garden

We are replacing the altar top in Our Lady’s Memorial Garden. It will be a new black granite altar top in which four sides will be engraved in one inch gold lettering to match the benches. There is an opportunity to purchase the “one” remaining side of the grotto altar. Please call the rectory if you’re interested in dedicating or memo-rializing this sacred site.

A payment schedule can be arranged if needed. If you have any questions, please contact the rectory office @ 516 541 3270.

Thank you for your continued support. God Bless!

Parish Outreach

Our Lady of Lourdes

“Ministry of Consolation”

Our parish is richly blessed to have gathered a wonderful group of volunteers who make up Our Lady of Lourdes “Ministry of Consolation” team. The most valuable gifts we can give are the gifts that come from the heart. The precious gifts of our time, love and compassion are espe-cially needed during the time of the loss of a loved one.

Created to provide warmth, caring and personal attention to assist families in preparation for the funeral mass, this particular ministry can never have too many helping hands. Whether your interest be that of a Greeter, Lector or EM, please give some thought as to sharing your time and talents and being a part of this ministry’s call to love and care for one another.

Thank you so much to our coordinator, Deacon Frank Gariboldi and all our volunteers for embracing this beau-tiful ministry. Please call Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260 if you would like to volunteer. Thank you for your consideration.

“We Care Blankets”

Our “Care Blankets” group of volunteers continues to meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00am to 11:30am, in Room 4, right next door to Parish Outreach. Since our group began in November 2009, a total of 1,114 gorgeous hand-made colorful blankets have been lovingly created. Thank you so much for the care, time and talent that goes into every beautiful creation, each a special gift for a very special child undergoing cancer care. We are happy to accept contributions of yarns, crochet hooks or knitting needles. If you would be interested in joining please give Parish Outreach a call at (516) 541-1260. The more the merrier!

“Food Pantry”

On behalf of all those we serve at Parish Outreach your kindness and continued support is deeply appreciated. Because you care we can meet the basic needs of the poor in our community. Thank you for helping to keep our pantry stocked with a variety of good foods. Without you, nothing is possible!

At this time, the food pantry in is need of Breakfast Cereals, Jelly, Pasta and Tomato sauce

With summertime just around the corner, and realizing the need in the warm months ahead, please continue to be as generous as you can. Each and every donation is a welcomed blessing! Again, thank you for your goodness in helping to embrace the poor in our parish community. VOLUNTEER'S CREED

~Tom Krause, Motivational Speaker Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul

Though my troubles and my worries are sometimes all that I can see - still I always must remember life's not only about me. Other souls are also hurting and I know that it's God's plan to reach out to help another - to extend them my hand. With this purpose as my focus - to be a comfort to a friend - all my troubles and my worries seem to fade out in the end. It is one of God's true lessons - how my walk is meant to be - true happiness I find when life's not only about me.

Stewardship reminds us to count our blessings, acknowl-edge God’s gifts to us and express thanks! We sincerely thank the (insert number) households who, as good stewards, have made a gift to the 2014 Catholic Ministries Appeal. You are helping many people in need in our community. No gift is too small and every gift makes a difference in someone’s life. Our Parish has raised $ 89,710, reaching 89 percent of our parish goal of $100,800.00 If you have not yet pledged, please consider a gift today and help us to meet our goal. Our parish will receive 20% when we reach goal. For more information visit www.CatholicMinistriesAppeal.org or call 516-379-521- ext. 2

Thank you to all those who donated blood and to the Rosarians who volunteered to the blood drive this past Monday. Also, we would like to thank all the walk-ins that helped us to meet our quota. You will be pleased to know that 71 dedi-cated and loyal people took part in our bi-annual blood drive and successfully do-nated 76 pints of blood and red blood cells to the LI Blood bank. Thank you for demonstrating such a genu-ine commitment to our parish and commu-nity by helping the LI Blood Bank assures a safe and adequate blood supply by re-membering, “Blood that used today MUST be replaced today.”

*UN experts accused the Catholic Church of torture because of its teaching on abortion. Experts on the UN com-mittee against torture suggested that the Church's teaching on the inviolable dignity of human life is a form of torture. Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, Apostolic Nuncio at the United Nations in Geneva responded, "The Holy See condemns the torture of anyone, including those tortured and killed before they are born...late-term abortion [where children are left to die without any medical care after they are born alive] constitutes torture." Archbishop Tomasi said that the Vatican has no power to impose its doctrine, but that Catholics worldwide provide maternal health care, alternatives to abortion, and help women physically and spiritually after an abortion. He cautioned against interfering with the exercise of religious freedom, and warned against 'ideological' attacks against the Catholic Church, and added that the committee would dis-credit itself if it showed bias. (The Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute, www.c-fam.org, May 9, 2014, Stefano Gennarini, J.D.) *The Reproductive Health Act (RHA), a controversial bill that would expand abortion in NY state, was defeated in the NYS Health committee last week. Kelly Cummings, a NYS Senate Republican spokesperson stated that the RHA would allow non-doctors to perform abortions right up to the day of a baby's birth. Governor Cuomo's Women's Equality Act, a 10-point package of women's rights legislation, includes a similar provision. The governor has stated that he will try again this year to get it passed before the end of session. Last year, the Women's Equality Act was brought up very late in the session (6/23/13). In 2013, the members rightly passed nine individual bills benefitting women, but rejected the abortion expansion bill. We must urge our NY Senate representatives to do the same this year. Please take action today and urge your Senator to be pro-women and pro-life. Please note: The seat formerly held by Senator Fuschillo is cur-rently vacant. Contact Senator Dean Skelos (leader of the Senate Majority Coalition), Legislative Bldg, Albany, NY 12247, or call the NY Senate switchboard at 1-518-455-2800, or see www.nysenate.gov or the NYS Catholic Conference at www.nyscatholic.org. *Thomas Renker, Esq. will speak on attacks on freedom of religion posed by the HHS mandate at Infant Jesus Church, Port Jefferson on May 22nd at 7pm. For more information call 631-896-8331. See www.CatholicsforFreedomofReligion.org. Religious freedom must be maintained to protect conscience rights of all health care providers. *Fr. Paul Driscoll's 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration, May 31st, 4pm Mass at Chaminade HS, Mineola followed by reception at the Jericho Terrace, Mineola. No charge. To RSVP contact 516-735-1692. Hosted by friends of Fr. Driscoll. *Join the Long Island Coalition for Life at a Long Island Ducks game, Saturday, August 2nd. Military Appreciation Night & Post-game Fireworks. Tickets $14 each. Mail payment to LICL, Box 247, Old Bethpage, NY 11804. Orders must be received by June 25th. Include your name, address, phone number and email address. Tickets are limited.
