    Pastors Desk

    Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Archbishop Emeritus Peter Leo Gerety will be celebrating his 100th birthday on Thursday, July 19th at a 3pm Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral Basilica in Newark. Each parish may have 10 representatives. Please let us know by tomorrow if you would like to attend by contacting us at the rectory. Also indicate if you need a ride or can provide a ride.

    +++

    Our new H.E.L.P. ministry of high school students (His Everlasting Love Preachers) will be holding a bake sale this weekend to raise funds for projects they are planning. This ministry hopes to be of assistance in our religious education program, parish retreats, and much more. Please help our H.E.L.P. ministers.

    +++

    This weekend we welcome Fr. Paulino Cabahit, who will be with us for the summer (July and August) at the recommendation of Fr. Ramil Costibolo. Fr. Paulino, like his predecessors in past summers, is from the Philippines and studying in Pamplona, Spain. We look forward to his time with us.

    +++

    Thank you for your support of the Archbishops Annual Appeal, which makes so many ministries a reality in our archdiocese and our parish. Hundreds of our parishioners have already pledged $195,926.00, which is 203% of our goal and almost 87% of our stretch goal of $226,041.20 for maximum parish rebate. Please send your pledge card to the Archdiocese or pick up a pledge form/envelope in the church or rectory.

    Now through July 4th, we continue to join Catholic Churches throughout the United States in a Fortnight for Freedom. You are asked to pray each day for an end to an institutional coercion by the government against conscience and government intrusion into the ordering of Church institutions. A simplified prayer you may say daily is:

    Almighty God, Father of all nations, for freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus. We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common good.

    Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties; By your grace, may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land.

    We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness, and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with whom you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

    Msgr. Richard Arnhols

    Reflection on Todays Gospel

    Gracious living can sound like one of those monthly magazines containing recipes and the latest in home design. But it is far more demanding when we understand it from a Pauline perspective as a call to live in imitation of the gracious action of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today we see Jesus graciously reach out to two desperate women. One had been hemorrhaging for twelve years, making her continually unclean, so she could not be in any contact with friends or family, or worship with others. She had lost everything, was truly impoverished. The other was a twelve-year-old girl whose frantic father had come for Jesus to heal her. To both women, Jesus showed the gracious love of God, a healing touch restoring them to life. Amazing, gracious God, look kindly on us and fill us with your grace. Expand our hearts so we might be generous to others as you have been to us. Bless our days that we might spread the light of your life to those who feel trapped by the darkness.

    Madonna Chapel & Mausoleum Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee has begun construction of an addition to its mausoleum. Madonna Mausoleum, the first community mausoleum built in the Archdiocese of Newark, has served the needs of our local community for almost forty years. The construction of an addition was necessary to continue in this mission. The new expansion will be called the All Saints section and there will be several liturgical features of saints that represent the ethnic diversity of our community. There will also be private and semi-private areas in the mausoleum addition and there will be options for both single and double interment. Because pre-planning is an important family responsibility, the cemetery is offering cemetery counseling and information about the mausoleum. If you wish to have more information, please fill out the enclosed form in the brochure at the exits of the church. You may also contact Madonna Cemetery by dialing: 1-866-392-1951.
