As part of their studies, SIBE`s LL.M. stu-dents work on individually defined prac-tice-related law projects. These are ongo-ing legal challenges from their professional background and work place. The projects cover a broad spectrum of legal questions, ranging from e.g. data protection over in-ternational competition law to the cross-border fight against tax fraud, etc.

This advancement of an individual area of expertise is complemented by the LL.M.’s learner-centered interactive online format. The students discuss and share their indi-vidual project development, challenges and solutions with their peers and their profes-sors. This process broadens each student’s international legal comprehension beyond the program’s theoretical content and the own law project, while the international course composition adds an enriching com-parative perspective (>80 % international students).

After having successfully passed the MOD Basics, the participants will:

■ have developed a basic understanding of the elementary topics of national and international business law,

■ be able to apply the specific and typical English terms and phrases of business and law in a correct way,

■ be able to basically analyze problems arising in the context of international contract law, be able to confidently handle different negotiation situ-ations, also with parties to a contract coming from another country,

■ be able to prepare and elaborate on contracts with an international perspective,

■ understand the impact of the European Union Law on national cases and be able to apply the relevant rules of the European Union Law and handle with fundamental freedoms.

The goal of MOD Advanced is:

■ to adequately use the indications of the Commercial register and the important informa-tion thereof,

■ to deal with the representatives of the commer-cial partner by knowing the scope and limits of the representation capacity of the agent acting for the commercial partners,

■ to adequately apply specific civil law require-ments which exist for merchants,

■ to get familiar with and consult on the relevant competition law system,

■ to consult on the registration of patents and trademarks, as well as in intellectual property controversies consult clients adequately on all important matters of company law, also with an international scope, esp. legal obligations and rights of partners / shareholders of a company, scope of liability and restrictions thereof, share transactions, etc.,

■ to understand and handle with the different phases of transnational transactions, prepare and develop NDAs, letters of intent, and Purchase Agreements, deal with the issues of a holding.

The SIBE Online LL.M. consists of the following 4 modules plus Master-Thesis and Final Exam (Defense of Master-Thesis).

■ to efficiently consult in all important special fields of (international) business law, i.e. in detail to consult German as well as foreign countries’ industries in the field of public economic law,

■ to understand, evaluate and draft cooperation agreements with the regard to national and EU competition law which are comparable with US Antitrust Law and important other systems,

■ to efficiently consult companies on the variety of capital market instruments and the concrete choices of capital procurement,

■ to handle with insolvency cases with a national as well as an international scope,

■ to consult in the choice among different company forms under the perspective of taxa-tion and advise how to optimize the company structure with regard to taxation,

■ to consult on the registration of patents and trademarks in the German, EU and internatio-nal context, as well as in intellectual property controversies before the relevant courts, advise in labour law controversies before the labour consiliation board and labour courts / employ-ment tribunals,

■ to understand the system and apply the rules of Residence Law and important legal issues concerning questions of the refugees’ status in national and international law.

The goal of MOD Practical Skills is:

■ to basically understand the meaning of competences,

■ to distinguish between the different kinds of competences,

■ to explain the differences as well as the context between competences, skills, knowledge and qualifications,

■ to know the basic `mechanisms` for the deve-lopment of competences,

■ to implement self-assessment and external assessment,

■ to understand all the specific regulations and procedures in accordance with international liti-gation, i.e. in detail to advise the companies on the various competences of international courts,

■ to know whether and to which extent a deci-sion of a foreign court is binding internally and whether it constitutes a sufficient title for execution,

■ to consult efficiently on the situation whether it is adequate to launch a mediation in a contro-versy in order to solve it outside the courts and, in this case, how to implement a successful mediation procedure,

■ to inform adequately about the selection of arbitrators and the procedures to be followed.

In the LL.M. program you systematically and con-tinously elaborate a law project of your choice. In coordination with SIBE`s professors, you individu-ally choose the field of SIBE`s LL.M. curriculum in which you would like to specialize:

Under the guidance of academically experienced practitioners and in close collaboration with your peers, you elaborate your project topic self-orga-nized: Applying the methods and tools of research, you plan and analyze the various facets of your topic. Results from your work are documented in Project Study Papers (PSP) which ultimately form the basis of your Master-Thesis. After your suc-cessful graduation, you will have the opportunity to contribute your result within one of our publi-cations in the field of International Business Law.

The goal of the LL.M. program is to optimally pre-pare you for a successful career in a company or a law firm as a specialist in the field of interna-tional business law. Nowadays, high-qualified law-yers stand out, due to the very important ability to act in a self-organized way, whenever being con-fronted with complex, dynamic and unpredict-able situations. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain knowledge, as well as experience. During our LL.M. program, you will not only learn a great deal in all the relevant fields of International Business Law, but you will also develop your project within your papers during the 12 months of study time, which

will be the basis for your Master-Thesis. SIBE`s staff and professors will effectively guide, consult and support you, no matter if it comes to choos-ing your topics in connection with your working field(s) or to writing your papers. Thus, the papers and Thesis will help you to deepen your knowledge in the relevant field(s) of law which will be very useful for your job and, vice-versa, the practical ex-perience obtained in your job will help you during the research for the papers and Thesis. Due to the legal qualification, you will enhance the opportu-nity to improve your career, as many of our alumni have experienced.

Moreover, networking is an important aspect dur-ing our LL.M. program. The exchange between you and your fellow students in the forum with a comparative view in an international environ-ment, guided by SIBE and SIBE`s professors, lead to valuable findings and insights. Additional Option: MBAStudying abroad

Due to the additional MBA program which is of-fered exclusively for SIBE students (they can par-ticipate in it on a volunatry basis), SIBE promotes the participants` global thinking and enables the students to gain a second degree in a comparative-ly short period - a very good opportunity to learn more about the growth market Brazil and to get an intensive insight into the legal system and the cul-ture of a foreign country.

Structure of the additional MBA offer:

■ The SIBE LL.M. program will be recognized by UniSantos + additional MBA-Thesis (30 Pages)

■ The MBA-Thesis will be presented and handed over in Brazil
