WINDOWS CONFIGURATION When both ports of a two USB ports mixer (2) are connected to the computer, the computer will detect two different sound cards. The name of one of the two sound cards has a 2 at the beginning (2 – USB Audio CODEC on inputs as well as on outputs). In some cases this sound card is associated with the channel 2 and in the others with the channel 3. The sound card’s names depend on the order in which the USB ports have been connected to the computer. Windows will detect only one sound card when a mixer with only one USB port (1) is connected to the computer. It is not necessary to configure the sound cards outputs, but some configuration is required on the inputs. First of all, it is necessary to adjust the input volume so the recording do not sound saturated. Select “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Hardware and Sound”, “Sound” and select the “Record” tap. You will see one (1) or two (2) microphone devices depending on the mixer model, which name is USB Audio CODEC. Each sound card corresponds to one stereo input. Volume must be adjusted on both sound cards, select one device, open the “Proprieties” window, select the “Levels” tap and adjust the volume. If your mixer has two USB ports (2) you have to repeat the procedure with the other device.

After adjusting the volume, select “Advanced Options”. You must select “channel 2, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD quality)” so the two inputs will be available.

MAC CONFIGURATION When the mixer USB ports are connected to the MAC, it will detect 2 (1) or 4 (2) sound card devices. Every device has the same name; two of them have 2 in and the other two, 2 out.

In order to use all the devices in Traktor you need to put them together in an aggregate device because you can only select one sound card on Traktor. Click on the “+” that you will find on the left side on the bottom of the Audio devices Window and select “Create aggregate Device”.

Afterwards, you have to select all the devices corresponding to the mixer which name will be “USB audio CODEC”.

VIRTUAL DJ Select “Advanced Config” on the “Sound Setup” window of Virtual DJ. Remember it is only necessary if you need to record the master signal. If not you can select “EXTERNAL MIXER”.

On the “Advanced Config” window you must link each sound card output with one deck and one sound card input with “Record Loopback”. Remember that the name of one of the sound cards has a two at the beginning (2 – USB Audio CODEC) (2). When the connected mixer has only one USB port (1), only one output can be linked with one deck and one input with “Record Loopback”.

MAC users have to link Deck 1 with the outputs 1 and 2 of the Aggregate Device and Deck 2 with the outputs 3 and 4. It is possible to select any input for “Record Loopback”, 1 and 2 as well as 3 and 4 of the Aggregate Device (2). 3 and 4 will not be available when using a single USB port mixer model (1).

Select Apply and OK. If Virtual DJ is configured as it has been explained on this manual, when you select “START RECORDING” on the RECORD tab it will be recorded the sound card input that have been assigned to “Record Loopback”.

Remember that the master level of Virtual DJ will affect to the signal level of the decks send through the sound card. TRAKTOR If you use Windows, it is necessary to install the Akiyama ASIO Driver to be able to use all the mixer USB inputs and outputs. You can download the driver from http://www.akiyamadj.com/2308/akiyama-asio. Select “AKIAYMA ASIO” as “Audio device” on “Preferences”, “Audio Setup”.

Once the driver is selected, click on “Settings” to open the Akiyama ASIO driver configuration window:

Here, you must select every sound card corresponding to the mixer USB ports (USB Audio CODEC) and unselect any other sound card connected to the computer and click “OK”. If your mixer has only one USB port (1), there will only appear one “USB Audio CODEC” device on the Device List. It may be necessary to select another “Audio Device” and afterwards select AKIYAMA ASIO again in order to make Traktor apply the new configuration. MAC users have to select “Aggregate Device” as “Audio Device”.

After selecting the audio device click on the “Output Routing” tab, select “External” and link each USB output to one deck. On Windows, depending on the mixer you will be able to select two different “USB Audio CODEC” (2). The “USB Audio CODEC” 1 and 2 correspond to the first USB that have been connected to the computer and 3 and 4 to the second. Consequently one “USB Audio CODEC” will be available on the channel 2 of the mixer and the other one on the channel 3 and the user will have to find out which one correspond to each channel. 3 and 4 will not be available on single USB port mixers (1).

On MAC the outputs names will be “Aggregate Device Out n” where n can be a number from 1 to 2 or 4 depending on the number of USB ports of the mixer (1) (2). Like in Windows the user will have to find out which outputs 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 correspond to channel 2 and which ones correspond to channel 3.

Afterwards, select the “Input Routing” and select which deck has to be associated with each input. This step is not very important as far as inputs are not going to be used as Live Inputs. It is only necessary to remember to which deck has been associated the input that have to be recorded.

Like it happened for Windows, on MAC, inputs have different names. The input names on MAC will be “Aggregate Device In n”.

Finally, select the MIX Recorder tab and select External on “Source”. On “External Input” it must be selected the deck which we have associated the input we want to record to, “Input Deck A” if you have configured inputs like in the images above.

If everything has been correctly configured, Traktor will record the Master signal that will come from the external mixer.

Remember that the master level of Traktor will affect to the signal level of the decks send through the sound card.
