usual character for big, 大 ) indicating what is grander than grand, vaster than vast, i.e. the heavens. The “on” reading can be used even if the kanji is stand-alone.

from steamed rice, used for the concept of breath. However, this is figurative breath: the breath of life, the spirit, vitality, and mood. This kanji can be read stand-alone as “ki” (which is uncommon).

kanji is used for things like cobblestones, not boulders.
