IN CONFERENCE INTERPRETING
THE MASTER IN CONFERENCE INTERPRETINGis designed to train future conference interpreters in simul-taneous and consecutive interpreting. The programme also exa-mines parliamentary procedures, conference terminology, inter-national organisations and interpretation theory. The range of available languages allows students to choose combinations re-levant to the job market. It is a blended-learning programme that combines traditional courses with distance learning through the department’s online portal. The use of cutting edge communi-cation technologies properly equips future interpreters for the current demands of the profession.

All candidates must choose a language combination of 2, 3 or 4 languages, amongst Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Rus-sian and Spanish. Language combinations consist of a mother tongue or primary language and either one other active language or two or three other languages, one of which may be active and the other(s) passive. The choice of combination depends on the candidate’s level of pro!ciency (active or passive).

ADMISSION CRITERIAA Bachelor in Multilingual Communication, or an equivalent degree. In addition, students must pass an entrance exam and have an excellent command of the languages in their chosen combination. They must also provide evidence that they have spent at least three months in a country where one of the passive languages in their chosen combination is the o"cial language. Additional courses may be required depen-ding on prior studies.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIESThe training received at FTI opens up a number of oppor-tunities in both the public and private sectors. Upon the completion of their studies, students of the interpreting stream may !nd work in-house or as freelance interpre-ters in a large number of areas and professions, such as international organisations, NGOs, publishing, transla-tion agencies, administration, documentation centres, research institutes, banking, insurance, courts, the media and teaching, etc. Interpreters are often required to travel.
TUITION FEES500 CHF / semesterDuring the online application process, applicants with a foreign degree will be charged an administrative fee of 65 CHF, to be deducted from the !rst-semester tuition fees.
