Conducted by Riccardo Muti, this production has been sta- ged by acclaimed stage director Peter Stein whom Muti had already invited to direct “Macbeth” during his years at La Scala. Stein however, had refu- sed, because he wasn't sure about how to handle the witches - a chorus in Verdi's opera, not three individuals as in Shakespeare's play.
