On behalf of everyone at Scottish Squash & Racketball, I would like to welcome you to Scotland and to the City of Aberdeen.
I am delighted to be asked to provide the formal welcome to all the players, officials and guests attending the Home Internationals and I do hope that your visit proves to be an enjoyable experience, especially for those who may be visiting the city for the first time.
These are always special events, particularly so for those selected to represent their country for the first time. But whether or not it is your first ‘cap’, I am confident that eve-ryone will give of their best and enjoy the whole experience. Whilst the competitive na-ture of our sport is never in question, the good spirit in which all matches are played is always an impressive feature of these events. On a personal note, I always enjoy listen-ing to the post-match banter of how the match should have gone!
Aside from the competitive nature of the weekend, it is sure to be an enjoyable time so-cially and many will look forward to renewing acquaintances and/or making new friends. I am not sure that there will be much time for sightseeing but I would encourage visitors to take the opportunity to see more of the city should it be possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Aberdeen Squash and Racketball Club for once again hosting the Masters Home Internationals and I am indebted to them for this and also agreeing to deal with all the organisation and planning of the event. Special thanks must go to Dave Ireson and Blair McKenzie and everyone at ASRC for giving so generously of their time.
Last but not least, I would like to thank in advance George Tierney and all the referees who have volunteered their time for all or part of the event and wish them well in their decision-making.
