THE ROUTE TO 101: This evening, the Dodgers conclude the
home portion of their 2017 regular season schedule looking to sweep
the San Diego Padres for the first time since the 2016 season-opening
series at PETCO Park. It would be the club’s first three-game sweep
of the Padres at Dodger Stadium since Oct. 2-4, 2015. Los Angeles
is 4-1 thus far on its final homestand and after the off day tomorrow,
begin a quick three-game road trip to Denver on Friday night. Game
1 of the 2017 National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium
starts Friday, October 6, with times to be determined later.
The Dodgers clinched the NL West Division title last
Friday, their fifth consecutive and 16th overall NL West
crown. The club has now reached the postseason in five
straight seasons for the first time in franchise history. The
Dodgers are also the first team in NL West history to win
the division in five consecutive seasons and the first big
league team to win five straight division titles since the
Phillies, who accomplished the feat by winning the NL East
in five consecutive seasons from 2007-11.
The Dodgers have scored at least nine runs in consecutive
games for the first time since June 19-20 vs. New York. In
the last two weeks since Sept. 13, the Dodgers are tied with
Arizona for the most homers in the NL (20) and ranks
second in slugging over that time (.458).
Last night the Dodgers clinched home field advantage
throughout the National League playoffs and their magic
number to clinch home field throughout the World Series is
two over both the Indians and Astros.
The Dodgers are 12-6 against the Padres this season and
have already clinched the season series against the Friars
for the seventh consecutive campaign. Los Angeles is 7-2
vs. San Diego at Dodger Stadium this year and in its last 62
games against the Padres at Chavez Ravine, the Boys in
Blue are 43-19 (.694).
The Dodgers own the best home record in the Major
Leagues with a 56-24 (.700) record and last night’s win
gave the club its’ most home wins in a season since moving
to Los Angeles in 1958.
Dodgers, Most Single-Season Home Victories 1958-2017
2017 56
1980 55
2015 55
The most home wins in franchise history is 60 (60-17),
established by the 1953 NL champions.
Los Angeles owns the best record in baseball with a 101-57
mark (.639), 2.5 games better than the Indians. The 101
victories are the most by a Dodger club since the 1974
squad finished 102-60. The Dodgers need two wins in their
final four games to record the most wins in L.A. Dodger
history, besting the 1962 and 1974 clubs that both won 102.
Just seven Dodger teams have won 100 or more games
(2017, 1974, 1962, 1953, 1942, 1941, 1899).
BROKEN RECORDS: Last night, Brock Stewart’s ninth-inning
strikeout of Luis Torrens gave the Dodgers 1,511 Ks this season,
setting the franchise record previously held by the 2016 team
(1,510). In addition, home runs last night by Yasmani Grandal,
Adrián González and Corey Seager padded the club’s franchise
record for homers, which was set on Sunday and now stands at 217.
The 217 home runs are tied with the Cubs for third in the National
League, trailing just the Brewers and Mets (220).
Dodger hitters have also obliterated their franchise record
for strikeouts in a season, amassing 1,356 this season,
already 35 more than the previous franchise record, which
was established last year.
THANK YOU!: Last night, the Dodgers surpassed 3.7 million fans
in attendance for the ninth time in franchise history and for the fifth
consecutive season (2006-9, 2013-17). Once again, Los Angeles will
lead the Major Leagues in both total and average attendance, which
stands at 46,482 heading into tonight. The Dodgers want to send a
huge thank you to the best fans in baseball.
BIG RICH: Dodger left-hander Rich Hill takes the mound tonight
for his 25th and final start of the regular season, as he looks to record
his 12th victory. In his last 16 starts since June 21, Hill is 8-5 with a
2.88 ERA (30 ER/93.2 IP) and a .192 opponents’ average.
THE NEWEST HR KING: Dodger rookie sensation Cody
Bellinger stroked his 39th home run of the season on Friday night,
surpassing Wally Berger (1930) and Frank Robinson (1956) for the
most home runs in a single season by a National League rookie. The
only rookies in history who have hit more homers than Bellinger are
Aaron Judge (50, 2017) and Mark McGwire (49, 1987). The All-Star
outfielder/first baseman ranks among the senior circuit in homers
(39, 2nd), slugging percentage (.592, 4th), home runs per at-bat (11.95,
2nd), OPS (.948, 8th) and RBI (95, T-13th).
Bellinger’s 95 ribbies are the third-most ever by a Dodger
rookie, trailing just Mike Piazza in 1993 (112) and Del
Bissonette in 1928 (106).
Bellinger has reached base safely in 21 of 25 September
games, with an OBP of .369 to go along with 16 runs, six
doubles, two triples, five home runs and 16 RBI.
Bellinger needs just one more home run to be only the third
player in Major League history to hit at least 40 home runs
in his age-21 or younger season.

SHUT IT DOWN: The Dodgers lead the NL with a 3.38 ERA, a
1.15 WHIP (1st, MLB) and a .227 opponents’ batting average (1st,
MLB), while leading the NL in strikeouts (1,511).
BEST IN THE BIZ: Kenley Jansen recorded his 40th save of the
season on Friday, as he collected his third career 40-plus save season
(2014, ’16, ’17). Jansen joins Eric Gagné (2002-04) as the only
pitchers in Dodger history with three seasons of 40 or more saves.
Jansen ranks third in the Majors in saves (40) and also leads
all NL relievers in WHIP (0.74), while ranking second with
105 strikeouts. His 1.36 ERA (10 ER/66.0 IP) ranks second
in the Majors, trailing only Boston’s Craig Kimbrel (1.34).
