Dear Parents

It is hard to believe that this is the final newsletter for the year. It has been another productive year at Mater Christi with much to give thanks for. There are many people to thank and events to celebrate.

Firstly, I thank our children. They are the reason why we are all here! On many occasions we have received messages of appreciation from parents,

parishioners, visitors and the wider public on the friendliness and exemplary behaviour of our students. We are all proud of these very special young people.

I would like to thank the staff of Mater Christi who have worked tirelessly this year in providing the children with a challenging and quality education. Teachers work well beyond the daily six hours of contact time with the students. Many of the teachers are at school till late, working on weekends at home and during holidays preparing for their classes. We also have a group of dedicated Learning Support staff and Teacher Assistants that assist many of our children and teachers every day. We have supportive Office staff that keep the school running throughout the year. Our specialist teachers in Drama, Music, Italian, PE and Science share their expertise and passion for their Learning area. Thank you to all of our staff for your contribution this year.

A special thank you to Fr Bryan for his support throughout the year. He has been involved regularly throughout the year with visits to the school and leading our Masses and liturgies.

Finally, thank you to All the families of Mater Christi for your support. We have a wonderful community of parents who work together for the benefit of the whole school.

Reports: Semester reports will be available on Friday via connect-P. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s learning for the year. All children have made progress, all the children have something to learn! I thank the teachers, who have devoted a great deal of time over each child’s report, and to Miss Cloutt who

ensures the whole process runs smoothly.

Staffing: I am most pleased to announce that Mrs Moran will next July welcome a little bundle of joy as the stork makes his special delivery. Congratulations to both Cathy and Andy. I know that their baby will be very blessed in having them as parents. Mrs Moran will remain at Mater Christi taking on other duties until her Maternity Leave sometime in Term Two. Miss Sarah McIntyre will be the new teacher for Three A. Sarah is currently teaching Year One C and assisted with Transition last Monday. It is terrific to have Sarah continuing at Mater Christi next year.

Term 1

Farewell and Thank you: A very special thank you and until we meet again to Mr Edwards, Mr Thuijs, Mr Millar and Miss Roche. I am sure the connection with Mater Christi will continue into the future. We also wish Mr Ryan the very best as he commences his six month appointment as Principal of St Columba’s. We all thank the families that are moving on this year for the contribution they have made to the Mater Christi Community. We wish you all the best as you commence your journey with your new school communities. As our Year Six graduating students celebrated the end of their primary schooling yesterday, they celebrated a journey that began seven years ago with their first day in Kindy. A journey that has provided them with countless experiences and opportunities to learn, grow and mature. They are well-prepared and ready to journey onto their selected high schools assured that they have the skills and independence needed to be successful. You all go with our blessing and the very best of wishes for the adventures still to come.

There is so much to be grateful for here at Mater Christi, our loving community, our family, friends, beaches, work opportunities and weather. During this time of year there tends to be an increase in grumbles. Let us work together to

remain focused on what is important in our lives, to be positive, glass half full people, people of hope! May we all go gently in this season of Advent!

On behalf of all the staff, I would like to wish everyone a Blessed Christmas and every Joy and renewed Hope for 2016.

I hope to welcome you and our new families as we commence a fresh year on Monday 1 February (KindyA & KindyC, PP – Yr Six) and Tuesday 2 February (KindyB & KindyD).

God Bless… Toni Kalat

Christmas Food Appeal Thank you for your tremendous response to our Christmas Food Appeal. On Wednesday morning we had an assembly to present all of the Christmas hampers to representatives from St Vincent de Paul. They thanked our school for our support and they were overwhelmed with the amount of hampers that we had created. Your effort and generosity were greatly appreciated. We look forward to your continued support in 2016.

Science Where did the year go!! It has been a fantastic year in Science and we have all learnt a lot about how our world works. Don’t forget to keep your children reading non fiction texts to keep there inquisitive natures working. Good general knowledge makes all the difference! Next year we have Waste Free Wednesdays so maybe a recyclable sandwich wrap, for crafty parents we have how to make them on the Science blog! Maybe a new waste free lunch box for Christmas! It has been such a privilege teaching all the students at Mater Christi and you all should be proud of your wonderful children. Wishing you all the Blessing of the Christmas Season and I look forward to more Science next year!
