Magnesium and OTTO FUCHS

Magnesium wrought alloys are the ideal material for extremely light components.Their most important properties are:

• lowspecificweight,

• good for hot forming,

• excellent machining properties as well as

• low internal stress.

The magnesium production range of OTTO FUCHS includes hand forgings up to a weight of 300 kg and die forgings from 5 g up to 300 kg. The largest projected area amounts 20.000 cm2, for a greatest length of 5.000 mm and a maximum width of 2.000 mm.

Mechanical properties

Solutions with magnesium wrought alloys

Construction engineers have a wealth of economical design options at their disposal, from die-forged parts to extrusion products.

We have developed a special continuous casting technology so as to further improve resistance to corrosion. This enables us to produce alloys in high purity quality, i.e. with very low levels of Fe and Ni content.

Wehavemorethansevendecadesofexperienceintheproductionandfinishingofthismaterial.

Pleasenote

Due to their electronic potential, magnesium alloys are sensitive to contact corrosion and must therefore be protected by means of insulation layers in the case of direct contact with other metals.

What is more, general resistance to corrosion only applies to a limited extent. An inor-ganic and/or organic anti-corrosive coating should be applied.
