MATERIAL HANDLING AND STORAGE SYSTEM[1]
Defined as the art and science of moving, packing and storing of substances in any form.
Also MH and Storage is the efficient short-distance movement of goods that usually takes place within the confines of a building such as a plant or a warehouse or between a building and a transportation agency.

Main objective is to reduce the number of units as well as the overall cost of material handling and equipment and reducing the distances through which the materials are handled or storage.
The other objectives:- To provide better control of the flow of materials. Lower unit material handling and storage costs. Improved working conditions and greater safety in
movement of materials.

TYPE OF STORAGE SYSTEM AND ITS EQUIPMENTS[4]
Automated storage and retrieval system(ASRS or AS/RS):-
An automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS or AS/RS)
consists of a variety of computer-controlled methods for
automatically placing and retrieving loads from specific storage
locations.
An automated storage/retrieval system (AS/RS) is a storage system
that performs storage and retrieval operations with speed and
accuracy under a defined degree of automation.

DISPOSAL OF WAST MATERIAL[5]
An enclosed chute must be used
when dropping material more than
20 feet outside of a building.
When debris is dropped through
holes in floors without the use of
chutes.
Area must be enclosed with
barricades.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS[6]
•Chemicals• Nylon web slings shall not be used where fumes,
vapors, sprays, mists or liquids of acids or phenolics are present.
• Polyester or polypropylene web slings, or web slings with aluminum fittings shall not be used where fumes, vapors, sprays, mists or liquids of caustics are present.
•Heat• Synthetic web slings of polyester and nylon shall
not be used in excess of 180 deg. F (82 deg. C). • Polypropylene web slings shall not be used at
temperatures in excess of 200 deg. F (93.33 deg. C).
