Summer term week 3 work please.
English – Amazing Grace. Listen to the story of ‘Amazing Grace’. For the next few weeks, we will be using the story of
Amazing Grace for our English learning. All of the resources for each lesson will be on our Woodpecker
Webpage. Here is a video reading of the book for you to watch

Read the story ‘Amazing Grace’. Who is Grace? What does she like to do? What is she good at?
What does ‘successful’ mean? What could unsuccessful mean? Can you use it in a
sentence?
Write a short character description of Grace based on what has been read. Can you think of
some adjectives to describe Grace’s personality? Can you think of some verbs to
describe the things Grace likes to do?

Today you will learn about contracted words
and the use of apostrophes. Read through the example on our Woodpecker page which will
tell you all you need to know about contracted words.
When you are confident you understand contracted words, you can complete the
activities for lesson 2.
Perhaps you could write your own sentences about the story using some of the shortened
words you have learnt.

Lesson 3 Objective: To use time conjunctions. Recap the story of ‘Amazing Grace’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWzIfz5SKZQ What happens; first, then, next and last? How does Grace feel at different parts of the story? Write a diary entry for Grace telling how she feels when trying to gain the part of Peter Pan. Complete the template or write your own using time adverbials first, then, next and finally. What happens to her at each stage? How did she feel? Remember to write your diary as though you are Grace, using words like I, I'm, I'll etc..

Create your own story map of amazing grace using pictures, words and phrases – make them creative and fun! Remember this map is to help

Retell the story of amazing grace use pictures to support your writing.
Use: Time conjunctions and descriptive
language to give more information. Use your year 2 writers mat to help you.
Topic ‘Beat, Band and Boogie!’ Session 1 Choose a piece of music to make a dance too. Try to keep with the rhythm and use the music to help you decide what movements would suit best. Record clips of these.
Session 2 Task: Research lesson: Research facts about ‘Hans Zimmer’. Who he is? What does he do? What is he famous for? Activity: Write an article for a magazine about him using the facts that you have found. The article is just informative. Find an optional template on the home learning page.
Session 3 Go through the slides on body percussion joining in where you
can. Compose a piece of music using the activity sheet saved on our Home learning page under topic. Happy music making!

Reading Comprehension Listen to the video/ book on our Home learning
page about ‘A Trip to the Beach’. Task!
Answer the questions based on the book. Remember to use full sentences with a capital
letter and a full stop. You will find pictures from the book and the questions on our Woodpecker
Home Learning page.
Daily reading Please continue with your daily reading as you know
reading skills underpin everything we do! Log onto the home learning page under adults to
hear members of staff read stories for you.
Log onto oxford Owl to access lots of reading materials that are phonetically decodable and other
useful activities!

As well as completing the sessions please look at your spellings every day that are attached below.
Session 1 – Watch session 1 on our Home learning page for ‘ea’. Before starting the session login to oxford owl using your class login – click on extra practise zone – find level 4 book 21. When required look at the page focussing on the picture. What do you see? Can you figure out what’s happening? How do you know? Can you see anything in the picture with the ‘ee ’ or ‘ea’ sound. Click on all the interactive parts and join in where you can or just follow me with the book on the video if you cannot load the interactive version.
Session 2 – Watch the short video for writing for ‘ea and ‘ee’. Complete the activity sheet on our Home Learning page for ‘ee’ and ‘ea’. After you have completed the activity write some of your spelling words using the sounds. Remember to use the lines and your fingers to sound out the words like I do in the video. Can you think of any of your own words with the ‘ee’ and ‘ay’ sound? Can you write them down? Challenge: Look up words you are unsure of in a dictionary or on an online dictionary with your focus sounds in ‘ee’ and ‘ea’. Write these words in sentences. Remember to think about your handwriting and punctuation. Session 3 – New sound. Watch the video for our new sound ‘ie’ which is an alternative spelling sound for ‘igh’ in level 3. Log on to oxford owl if you can to level 4 book 21 and turn to the ‘igh and ‘ie’ page before starting the video. Use the interactive devices on the screen to take you through or follow with me in the video. Remember to think about the picture first and discuss what is happening in detail and what things you can see in the picture with our sounds. Then try and sound out the words using your pointy finger or just say the words. Day 4 – Watch the short writing video for ‘igh’ and ‘ie’ then complete the writing activity that is on our home learning page. After you have completed the activity write some of your spellings using the ‘igh’ and ‘ie’ sound. Remember use your fingers to sound them out and use the lines to write them!

Look at your year 2 common exception words lists (if you do not have one to hand there is one saved on the Woodpecker
main page under useful resources) – choose some of them – can you say them? Can you spell them? What do they mean?
Use them in a sentence.
If you can recall and spell all of the year 2 common exception words – move onto the year 3 and 4 list which I will upload
for you.
Day 5 - CHALLENGE TIME – Get someone to test you on your spelling list with this week’s sounds in – how many can you get? Good luck! If you get some wrong that’s ok – keep note of them to keep practising ☺
