English Reading KEEP READING!!!! It is so lovely to hear that so many of you are really enjoying snuggling up with a good book. ‘The Beast of Buckingham Palace’ by David Walliams is his most epic adventure yet and it is seems to be a favourite with lots of you. Writing Let the creative juices keep flowing Y6! This week you are continuing to write your own portal story. We have read some of your plans al-ready and we are gripped! We are going to continue to use Talk4writing to help inspire you all with

your story. You can again access the topic we are working through here - https://www.talk4writing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Y6-Unit.pdf Doors—the World of Possibility. Continue to look at Session 10 on page 16 to help you. Remember to punctuate your work carefully and correctly. Please remember to include – . , ! ‘ “ ” Remember to ‘SHOW NOT TELL’ the reader how the character is feeling: His heart froze and his stomach turned to ice; She gasped, jumping backwards instinctively.

Keep checking over your work carefully to make sure that it makes sense. Read it aloud to yourself first like you always do at school. If it doesn’t make sense to you then it won’t make sense to your reader. These ideas will hopefully continue to help you. 1. Describe the portal in intricate detail. 2. Think about what lies on the other side of the door. 3. ‘Magpie’ ideas from other great writers and work you have previously done at school. 4. We want you to ENJOY writing your story. Keep writing with passion! If you love writing it then your audience will love reading it. We really look forward to reading them.

Hope you have fun this week , Mrs Tang, Mrs Melhuish and Mr Haslock

Year 6 Extra: We would like to put together a list of books recommended by Year 6. There is nothing quite like a good book that grabs your attention and you find that you cannot put it down. Mrs Tang, myself and all the other female teachers at school are all part of a Book Club. We meet up once every half term at someone’s house and have a lovely evening catching up with each other. We always choose a book that we are all going to read and then we can talk about the book the next time we have our Book Club. We have even had 2 Book Clubs on Zoom! We ALL love , love, love reading. So your extra challenge this week, Year 6, is to email me or Mrs Tang with the name of your absolute favourite book ( and its author) that you have read in the last year please. We will share this list with you next week.

RMJS Virtual Sports Day

Wednesday 20th May 2020

We are so excited to be holding our first ever Virtual Sports Day on Wednesday 20th May 2020. We are

hoping it will be an exciting morning filled with fun activities for you to enjoy in your own home or garden.

The format will be simple. Put on a t-shirt to represent your house (red, yellow, green or blue) and grab

a bottle of water. There will be 20 exercises to complete. Each exercise will take no more than one minute.

You will gain either 5, 10 or 15 points depending on the number of repetitions or time taken. Work your

way through the exercises and record your scores. An exercise and score sheet can be found here. Don’t

worry if you can’t print it; just record your scores on a piece of paper. Maybe you could compete against

another family member if you are feeling extra competitive! When you have completed all the activities,

total your scores and send them to Mr Gilbey. He will be sending a text and an email with the link on Tues-

day after school. We would love to see any photos of you taking part - please send them to Mrs Mosley, Mr

Gilbey or your class teacher.

Finally, a huge well done to Jasmine, Ava, Harriet, Rory, James and Adam whose ideas helped shape our

sports day. They all receive a gold star worth 10 house points - well done!
