MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL URDU UNIVERSITY
Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) was established by an Act of the Parliament as a Central University with all-India jurisdiction. The University is alsoa member of the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Common WealthUniversities. The mandate of the University, as per the Act, is to promote and developthe Urdu language, provide higher, technical and vocational education through Urdumedium and to provide focus on women education. The Act empowers the Universityto offer education through the distance and regular mode as well. Moreover, theUniversity has made many strides within a span of 14 years of its establishment bylaunching newer courses both in regular and distance mode. In regular mode, theUniversity has departments of Urdu, Hindi, English, Persian, Arabic, Translation,Maths, Computer Sciences & Information Technology, Education & Training, MassCommunication & Journalism, Commerce & Business Management, Women Studies,Political Science and Public Administration & the Department of Sociology and SocialWork. Further, the University has one Directorate (Directorate of Distance Education),and four Centres such as the Centre for Professional Development of Urdu MediumTeachers (CPDUMT), Centre for Women Studies, Centre for Studies in Social Exclusionand Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) and the Centre for Urdu Language, Literature andCulture (CULLC), H.K. Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies, besides the Academic StaffCollege, Maulana Azad Chair, Polytechnics and I.T.Is Apart from this, the Universityhas facilities of imparting coaching for I.A.S aspirants through Civil Services CoachingAcademy and the University also provides coaching facility for UGC NET/JRF apartfrom Remedial classes & APPSC Coaching. On the basis of these achievements NAAChas awarded "A" grade to the University.

Directorate of Distance Education
The University has initiated its distance education programmes from its year ofestablishment through the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) by offering B.A inUrdu medium. The DDE has set up 9 Regional Centres (Delhi, Patna, Bangalore,Bhopal, Darbhanga, Srinagar, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Ranchi) and 6 Sub-Regional Centres(Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jammu, Nuh, Amravati, & Delhi) across the country so as toprovide academic and administrative support to the students. The RCs and SRCs takecare of student support services; management of Study Centres; and admission process.At present there are 159 SCs within the purview of these RCs/SRCs. Besides this, theUniversity has signed MoUs with Doordarshan for imparting lessons to the studentsthrough audio visual media. Further, the DDE is endeavouring to achieve its goal ofproviding on-line admission facility; simple process of admission to facilitate thestudents and providing audio visual material to the students along with the SLM.Moreover, the distance education programmes are popular with a large number ofstudents from across the country and abroad. In coordination with the Counsel Generalof India, MANUU has started its Exam Centre at Jeddah (K.S.A) in 2006. Thegraduation, post graduation and diploma certificates awarded by the University are atpar with the certificates of other Central Universities. Day-by-day the strength of thestudents is growing and students on roll, as on date, are 1,57,000. Thus, the DDE isstriving hard to reach the unreached. According to a recent survey the University'sdistance education programmes are ranked at sixth place in the merit list of top 30national level institutions in the country.

ADMISSION PRECEDURE FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS (K.S.A)
To promote the academic programme outside the country Maulana Azad National Urdu
University has established one exam centre at Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2007. Since
its inception it caters to the Higher education needs of Indian students (expatriates) as well as
other nationals residing in remote areas of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Most of the working
professionals and House wives of KSA who desire to have additional qualification are
enrolled through our ODL programmes.
At present MANUU is offering Under Graduate (B.A, B.Com) and Post Graduate(History,
English, Urdu) and few Diploma and certificate courses through its overseas centre. This
exam centre is running under the supervision of Consulate General of India, Jeddah. Mr.
Sultan Mazharuddin, President of Indian Education Council has taken the responsibility of
Admissions, distribution of Self Learning Material to the students and dissemination of
information regarding Term end Examination.
In future Maulana Azad National Urdu University may expand its overseas centres at
Kuwait and Qatar also.

Objectives of the CourseTeach English, a one-year Diploma course offered through the distance mode of
education is designed to help students and teachers of English to improve their
proficiency (both spoken and written) in English and enable them to become a quality
teachers of English. The course will be particularly useful to teachers of English in Urdu
medium schools and colleges.
Eligibility : Any graduate or equivalent is eligible for admission
Duration: The course is of one-year duration. However, it may be completedin two years.
Course Content :::: The Self Learning Material (SLM) is divided into four sections,
each of 20 units, and two audio Cassettes as detailed below :

Counselling and Support Services::::The study material and audio cassettes will be dispatched to the student by post on
confirmation of admission. No counseling classes are required. However, the students

Scheme of Examination :The student will write the Term End Examination for 4 papers each of 70 marks. Each

Objective of the Course:
The main objective of the course is to help Urdu speakers to improve their
proficiency of English-both spoken and written. English is becoming increasingly important
for success in all walks of life. Almost all jobs now require the ability to function well
through English. Apart from work, English is needed for education, business, entertainment
and so on. This course covers all aspects of English i.e. pronunciation, grammar,
vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading and writing so that students can achieve all-round
improvement in English.
Course Contents :
This course consists of 3 papers of 100 marks each.
Paper - I : Listening / speaking.
Paper - II : Reading Vocabulary
Paper - III : Writing Grammar
Duration :
The duration of the course is six months. But the students, according to their
convenience, can complete the course within a maximum period of two years.
Counselling and Support Service:
Study material will be despatched to the students by post on confirmation of
admission. No counselling classes will be conducted. However, guidance will be provided
by correspondence and e-mail. Candidate may contact the Course Co-ordinator at
Directorate of Distance Education, Head-quarter (Hyderabad).
Scheme of Examination
Each 100 marks paper shall carry 30 marks for assignments and 70 marks for term-end
examination. Two assignments for each paper are compulsory component for final

Objective of the þþþþCourse::::As per the mandate of the Act, it is the responsibility of the University not only to acquaint
the citizens of greater India with Urdu Language but also to devise and design such courses
which will bring multilingual and multicultural people of this great nation into a composite
whole. Certificate programme Proficiency of Urdu through Hindi and English is an attempt
in this direction.
The main objective of these two certificate courses is to acquaint people with Urdu
language. The courses have been so devised that persons who have basic knowledge of
reading and writing English/Hindi language will be able to learn Urdu. These courses will be
of immense help to such employees for whom the knowledge of Urdu is mandatory. These
courses will also be helpful to those who are closely associated with academic institutions
like libraries, archives, academics and museums. It will open up avenues for low skilled
technicians in film industry, T.V. and Radio.

but the attendance at counselling is below 10 for three consecutive counselling sessions, the

4. A) Normally the Study Centre is the Examination Centre. However, the University can allot an
alternative examination centre if your Study Centre is not declared as exam centre.
B) In case you wish to appear examination at a particular centre, the requisition should be

C) However, if Exam Centre chosen, is not activated, under the same region will be allotted.
D) Change of examination centre, once allotted is not permissible under any circumstances.
