40 Days of Prayer…

It is hard to believe that two weeks have already passed in our 40 Days of Prayer Study. What a

blessing hear your stories and learn more about prayer through the thoughts of one another.

What a blessing to have new prayer partners to make sure we are reaching out to God and

accomplishing what we really want from this study and of course, what God wants for us.

I can’t imagine life without God and I cannot imagine my relationship with God without prayer.

I keep going back to the verse from Isaiah 30:18: “The Lord waits for you to come to Him so He

can show you His love and compassion.” Hard to imagine Almighty God waiting to hear from

me… but it’s true. A second passage is when God speaks through Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to me

and I will answer you. I will show you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never

figure out on your own.”

I call this passage – “don’t put God in a box.” Sometimes I think we forget that God is God and

He can do anything and everything. There are so many things that God wants to show us that

we can’t even imagine, so many things that God wants to accomplish through us that we can’t

even dream. Nothing is too difficult for God and we need to have that kind of faith and trust in

Him. Too many times we say we can’t do that, but with God we can and it won’t be as difficult

as we think.

These are the passages that have continued to speak to me in this study – how about you? Are

there passages in the daily meditations that have been especially thought provoking or

meaningful?

If you haven’t been in touch with your prayer partner call them or text them – share your

thoughts on a passage with them and make sure you both are staying up to speed on the

devotionals. Take a minute to pray together.

God’s Blessings, Pastor Brett

Thank You!!

When I was called here to Community Church, I asked the Search and Call Committee three

questions:

1. Does Community Church believe, honor, and follow the teaching of the Bible?

2. Does Community Church love people and long for them to know Jesus?

3. Are the people of Community Church willing to sacrifice to the point they will joyfully

embrace change?

I asked these questions of the Elders last week. I shared that numbers one and two tend to be easy to

say “yes” to. But only a “yes” in action to number three indicates our true response to one and two.

I ask these questions of myself every week. They come from “Organic Outreach for Churches” by

Kevin G. Harney.

Lorrie and Don McKay

are often at Community

Church – just helping

out where needed. They

both say that they really

enjoy helping others and

want to do more! They

have been members at

Community Church for

many years.

Lorrie grew up in the church, was baptized,

confirmed, and married here. She is a hometown,

Ludington, girl who graduated from Ludington

High School. Don was born in Wayne County,

Michigan, and raised on a farm near the small

town of Corran, Michigan which is on the east

side of the state. He graduated from Fairview

High School and attended Corran Baptist

Church.

Don and Lorrie both attended West Shore

Community College where Lorrie earned a

nursing degree. She did home care nursing for a

few years, and then worked as a paraprofessional

in Ludington schools for 32 years. She worked

with at-risk kids in reading and math, and was in

charge of the math lab. Lately, she has been

substitute teaching. Don went to aviation school

at WMU for two years. He was a construction

laborer for a short time, then a supervisor for

road construction/sewer and water main, retiring

in 2012.

Blessed with three sons – Brad, Todd, and Adam

– all were baptized at Community Church. Brad

and family live in Ludington, Todd in

Hudsonville, and Adam in North Carolina. Don

and Lorrie are proud grandparents of seven

grandchildren, and one heavenly grandson,

Hunter Lee.

Lorrie and Don have both willingly served on

our church’s Council of Ministries for six years,

plus various committees. Don does lots of

B.U.M (Building Use and Maintenance)

activities – making repairs, doing painting, yard

work, etc. as needed for the church. Lorrie has

served on the Pastoral Search Committee

recently, and most other committees. They also

volunteer for Community Table and Hospitality

INC.

Don spends as much time as possible hunting

and fishing. He also likes dogs and cats. They

have a Shih Tzu and Yorkie Terrier mix dog

named Bentley. Lorrie has many hobbies – she

loves outdoor life including walking, gardening,

kayaking, the beach, snow shoveling, and cross

country skiing. For indoor activities she enjoys

reading, jigsaw puzzles, and scrapbooking. Both

really treasure time spent with each other and

their family, attending grandchildren’s sporting

events, etc.

Lorrie says her passion is to “become all that

God wants me to be.” Her favorite Bible

scripture is Philippians 4:6 – “Do not be anxious

about anything, but in every situation, by prayer

and petition with thanksgiving, present your

requests to God.” For her, it means: Do not

worry about everything. Tell God what you need

and thank Him for what He has done.

Don’s favorite scripture is John 3:16. His passion

is to: “Come much, much closer to my God.”

His new favorite saying is: “Never look down on

anyone – only God sits that high.”

Very well said, Don and Lorrie, and thanks for

all you do at Community Church!
