ELASTIC MORTAR FOR SEALING JOINTS SUBJECT TO MOVEMENT

IN CONCRETE, PREFABRICATED AND CERAMIC ELEMENTS

DESCRIPTION

MAXJOlNT ELASTlC is a two-component product. Component A is a liquid b ased on spec ial s ynthetic

resins. Component B, supplied in powder form, as amortar based mixture of cements, additives andspecial aggregates.W hen both components are mixed, an elastomericproduct with high bond strength is achieved, suitablefor sealing joints and cracks in concrete, pre-cast

elements, mortars, bricks or o t h e r p o r o u s s u r f a c e s .

APPLICATION FIELDS

Sealing expansion joints with an in-servicejoint movement up to 15% .

Joints in permanent immersion in pipelines,water reservoirs, water treatment plants, etc.

Joints of concrete prefabricated elementsand ceramic in faa des and building c onstruction.

Sealing of active cracks in concrete and masonry.

Pointing mortar on all porous substrates subject to

movement.

Jo in t s ize

Joint must not be wider than 30 mm. Sealing

depth should be at least half of joint width.

Use polyethylene foam joint backing rod or MAXCELwith a diameter 25% greater than the joint width,in order to avoid stress of the bottom of MAXJOlNTELASTlC.

Subst ra te prepara t ion

The surface to be sealed must be solid and clean,free of all traces of paint, efflorescence, loose particles,grease, form-stripping oils, dust, gypsum plaster, etc.

Before applying MAXJOlNT ELASTlC, dampen jointedge removing f ree-standing wate r.

Mix preparat ion

MAXJOlNT ELASTlCis supplied as two pre-weighed

components. Pour the resin, component A, into aclean container and add the powder gradually,

Component B, while mixing with a low speedmixing drill (400 - 600 rpm), until a homogeneousmixtur e free of lumps is achieved. Avoid exces sivemi xing time and do not modif y the pr oportionssupplied betwee n both comp onents . Leave themix to rest 2 mi nutes. Depending on r elativehumidity and temperature, pot life can vary between30 - 60 minutes approxim atel y. After this time, re-mix to keep its workability but do not add water.

Ap p l i cat i o n

To improve the surface adhesion , a prim er ofComponent A- applied by brush to the joint edgeis recommended. While the primer coat is still wetto touch, apply MAXJOlNT ELASTlC into the jointby trowel, caulking gun or putty knife. Applyagainst the bottom edge of joint in order to avoidany remaining internal air bubble.For smoothing the surface, soaped water canbe used immediately after application .

temperatures. Do not apply if rain is expectedwithin 6-8 hours af ter appl ic at ion .

Curing

Curing time varies depending on temperature andrelative humi dity, as well on th e join t size.

At 20 C and 50 % R . H., a 10 mm width applicatio nof MAXJOlNT ELASTlCcan be coated by MAXSEALFLEX (Technical Bulletin n29)after a c uring time of 7days .

When subject to water immersion, allow a curing timefor 3 weeks, in such weather conditions. If applicationis done below 10 C, high relative humidity orunventilated areas, longer c uring time is required.

Cleaning.

Tools must be cleaned with water immediatel yafte r application. Once the material hardens, it canonly be removed by mechanical m ethods.

PACKAGING

MAXJOlNT ELASTlC is supplied in 10kg pre-weighedsets (5kg l iqu id component A and 5k g powdercompon ent B). It is available in standard greycolou r. Other colours are available on request.

STORAGE

Twelve months in its original unopened sets, in a drycovered place, protected from frost, above 5 C.

CONSUM PTION

MAXJOlNT ELASTlC fills approximately 0,790 litres with1 kg product. The following data is an approximateguideline depending on the joint size:

Comp onent A: NON toxic, NON flammable. It is n otclassified as dangerous material for transportation.

Appl ication of MAXJOlNT ELASTlC

Component B: as all cement based product, isan abrasive and protec ti ve ru bber gl oves andsafety goggles must be used when preparing themix and during application.

If any of the components or mixture gets incontac t with e yes or skin, rinse with clean water,but do not rub. If irritation co ntinues, c onsult adoctor.

A Material Safety Data Sheet is available forMAXJOlNT ELASTlCon request or is downloadable f rom websi te .

Disposal of the product and its emptycontainers must be according to officialregulations. The proper disposal of theproduct is the responsibility of the use r.
