The Maxwellteam joined the Pensacola Squadron from

Florida. The Pensacola Squadron areregulars at the annual SERFI. The Maxwellcadets set up a Civil Air Patrol information booth on the flight line and performedcrowd control during the event. They werestationed along the taxi ways ensuring thesafety of both the taxiing aircraft and thespectators. In addition to working the air show the team worked in shifts enablingeach other to enjoy the aircraft. While off shift the members were tasked by Senior members Weinzirl and Otero to practiceaircraft recognition. They were given a listof 12 different aircraft to locate and noteidentifying characteristics of each. At theend of the show all the members werewalked around the flight line and asked towrite down the identities of twelve specificaircraft that were pointed out. All the

members attained high marks with severalidentifying all of the aircraft.

22 November 2008 [photos from Auburn Composite Squadron]AL-032 had two strong 6-person teams in the 2008Ironman competition in Auburn, AL (including 12cadets & 3 senior members). In a field of a dozenteams from squadrons around Alabama, our squadron took third and fifth place overall, inaddition to winning the top prizes in the drill and physical fitness categories. It was miserably cold, physically demanding, and mentally challenging, butthey trained ahead of time and were up to the tasks. Now if someone asks if one of these brave warriorsis an Ironman, he or she can proudly reply Yes, Iam! Do you have what it takes to be an Ironman?

If so, notify your chain of command so you can trainwell for Ironman 2009. Outstanding performance!

MEMBER S POTLIGHTCadet TSgt Joseph Spitzer Captain Gerry Otero

I wanted to fly and be in the Air Force withoutbeing in combat or have the commitment. Ivebeen in the program for two years and twomonths.

I love the ground team, FTX, NESA, and doingall of the search and rescue activities.

Id like to get the Spaatz Award and attend asmany cadet activities as possible.

Im a homeschooled student, so its not reallymuch of a problem.

Going to NESA and graduating. (NationalEmergency Services Academy)

I was very interested in what cadets were doingafter I saw them at an air show. I talked toLt Col Gaston and was invited to learn moreabout CAP and was very impressed. Ive been infor three years this April.

The sense of community and helping people. What we do helps others to live.

Id like to progress in command and education& move forward with the squadron to be the bestin Alabama and even the nation!

Its hard to do, but there are some similaritieswith my regular job. It helps that my bosses arevery understanding and flexible.

Increasing the number of cadets participatingin activities and seeing them advance. It givesme great joy every month to see them promote.

Why did you join CAP? How long have you been a member?

What do you like about CAP?

What would you like to accomplish while in CAP?

How do you fit CAP into your civilian life?

What are you most proud of doing in CAP?

If you would like to nominate someone to be featured in our next newsletter, please contact the squadron public affairs officer. We plan to include a cadet andsenior member each quarter.

I pledge to serve faithfully in the Civil Air Patrolcadet program, that I will attend meetings regularly, participate actively in unit activities, obey myofficers, wear my uniform properly, and advancemy education and training rapidly to preparemyself to be of service to my community, state, and nation.
