MEN’S TUESDAY GOLF LEAGUE

The Men’s Tuesday Golf League cancelled its end of year (EOY) tournament and its awards banquet when the park shut down due to the Covid-19 scare. As a result, we did not give out any EOY tournament or Ringer board awards. The league will reduce fees for next season to compensate this year’s members for the cancellations. We did award the season’s hole-in-one prize to Ron Davis for his winning shot on the No. 12 hole. The following were winners in our mid-year Match Play Tournament:

“A Flight”: 1st Place-Mark Torr, 2nd Place-Joe Debonis, 3rd Place-Bill Colclaser “B Flight”: 1st Place-Rob Brooks, 2nd Place-George Bradley, 3rd Place-Bob Robinson “C flight”: 1st Place-Stan Cierach, 2nd Place Ron Peach, 3rd Place Terry Holterman

Thanks to those who participated and we hope to see you in October. A Summer League is expected to be organized when the park lifts the restrictions for league play.

As stated before, please understand the facilities are CLOSED and the course will not be marshalled or monitored. Also, Maintenance work will continue on the Course therefore, if you choose to play, you need to play around the Maintenance workers. Thank you for your patience and under-standing in this matter.

~ The Manager’s Corner ~

The Hamptons’ residents continue to make me feel honored to be the manager of such a caring, understanding and responsible community. To date, there have been no reported cases of Covid-19 here in our population and that is primarily due to the residents’ commitment to adhering to the guidelines set in place by the Center for Disease Control. It is my hope that we, as a community, will continue to practice strict personal hygiene, including frequently washing your hands and disinfecting commonly used items and surfaces. People who feel sick should stay home and follow the advice of their medical providers. There are still full time employees working to assist you if necessary, you may call us at 863-667-0275, and please leave a message if no one answers due to our restricted hours. Payments may be dropped in the mailbox which is next to the clubhouse doors (there is a slot cut in the top) between 10am and 2pm, Monday through Friday. If your income has been affected by Covid-19, please visit the Website sunwebportal.com Our maintenance staff continues to work to help keep The Hamptons looking beautiful and to ensure that anything needing repair may be attended to immediately. Again, I thank you for your current and future adherence to all Center for Disease Control guide-lines, and for your commitment to keeping yourself, as well as our neighbors, safe. It is my sincere hope that we continue to see zero incidents of the Covid-19 virus here in our community and that everyone remains healthy. We look forward to getting the Hamptons back into the community we have always enjoyed.

A Golf Poem

In my hand I hold a ball, White and dimpled and rather small.

Oh how bland it does appear, This harmless looking little sphere.

By its size I wouldn’t have guessed, How fast this ball could become a pest.

My life has not been quite the same, Since I chose to play this stupid game.

It rules my mind for hours on end, A fortune, it has made me spend.

It has made me curse and made me cry, And hate myself and want to die.

It promises me a thing called Par, If I hit it straight and far.

To master such a tiny ball, Should not be very hard at all.

But my desires the ball refuses, And does exactly as it chooses.

It hooks and slices, dribbles and dies, And disappears before my eyes.

Often it will have a whim, To hit a tree or take a swim.

With miles of grass on which to land, It finds a tiny patch of sand.

Then has me offering up my soul, If it would just find the hole.

It’s made me whimper like a pup, And swear that I’ll give it up.

And take to drink to ease my sorrow, But the ball knows...I’ll be back tomorrow.

Missing Monday Morning Coffee, Joke for the Month

Fred is 32 years old and he is still single. One day a friend asked, “Why aren’t you married? Can’t you find a woman who will be a good wife?” Fred replied, “Actually, I’ve found many women I wanted to marry, but when I bring them home to meet my parents, my mother doesn’t like them.” His friend thinks for a moment and says, “I’ve got the perfect solution, just find a girl who’s just like your mother.” A few months later they meet again and his friend says, “Did you find the perfect girl? Did your mother like her?” With a frown on his face, Fred answers, “Yes, I found the perfect girl. She was just like my mother. You were right, my mother liked her very much.” The friend said, “So, what’s the problem?” Fred replied, “My father doesn’t like her.”

SPRING FLING 50/50 The HEF Spring Fling 50/50 drawing has been postponed until further notice. Tickets are still being sold. We would hope everyone would dig deep and participate to help replenish our scholarship fund. Tickets are $5.00 and are available from Diane Boland, Carol Debonis, CherylAnn Burnett, Al LaPlant, Sandy Hall, Barbara Brochu, Betty Harris and Judy Orioli. We will notify everyone when the drawing date is rescheduled. Your donation will be greatly appreciated…and you will have a chance to win a BIG prize. But remember, our students are the final winners.

Labor Day Duck Pluck!!!

Let’s make this another great “fun”d raiser for the kids in the Auburndale school system. As always, all proceeds go for school supplies, uniforms, book binders, and the kids Christmas party for underprivi-leged children in our immediate area. The Hampton’s Helping Hands will hold its 2nd annual Labor Day Duck Pluck on Monday, September 7, 2020. Ducks are currently on sale for $5.00 each. Buy a duck and your ducks’ number will be recorded with your name. Then on Duck Pluck day, we’ll dump them all into the end of the pool and with the help of some of our residents providing some “motion to the ocean”, the first three ducks to pass through to the end will split the winnings. For those of you who have headed north already, no problem...you can either order ducks on Facebook or just send your money to us and we will pull a duck for you and register your number. Send your donation to Rose Flynn, 214 Golf View Drive and don’t forget to add your name to the list!!! You need not be present that day to win. Ducks will be on sale from now until August 31st. Contact any HHH officer (Rose Flynn, Buzz Binz, Deanna O’Donald, or Diane Gallant) to buy your duck.

HAMPTON HELPING HANDS

WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS… by Rose Flynn, President

Hampton Helping Hands As many of you remember, our event last March was not up to HHH standards. Yes, it did get better after the first half, but it was not what we usually present to the communi-ty. But out of this has come something good. As you all know, school has not been in session for a while now, and many of our kids depend on school for two meals a day. Mary Colclaser did some investigating and found out that the schools were still trying to provide some type of food for the kids but were quickly running out of money and that got her to thinking. What could we do to help our kids? So, she hatched a plan and ran it by our board members and we thought it was an excellent idea. We would take the proceeds from that lemon March event and turn it into lemonade in the form of Aldi gift cards for the schools in our district. And that is what we did !!! So even though that evening wasn’t what we had expected, something wonderful came out of it from all of you !!! All your ticket purchases were turned into food this Holy Week for our kids. Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. You all are wonderful ! ! !

GOLF CART RULES

Golf carts are only to be operated in the Community by drivers who have a valid state-issued driver’s license.

Please be sure to maintain the 15mph speed limit throughout the park, while paying special attention to your speed when entering the front gate.

HEF SCHOLARSHIPS Despite a shortened fund-raising season, the Hamptons Educational Foundation was able

to award twenty-three $3000 scholarships to students from Auburndale High School and

Harrison School for the Arts. We normally have a formal award presentation ceremony at the end

of April, but hopefully we can reschedule that celebratory event for December when our stu-

dents are home for Christmas break. Once again, thank you to everyone who participated, volun-

teered or helped in our fund-raising events and to those who contributed to our scholarship fund.

Hampton Quilters

Hope everyone in our Hampton family

is well. While the quilters haven’t been meet-ing, many have been busy making fabric

masks to help to keep everyone safe. Like so many in our community, our response is

“How can we help?” Thanks to all who have helped in any way and brightened our days

during this crisis. The Hampton Quilters will resume meetings every Tuesday morning

from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the clubhouse once the emergency is over. Everyone is wel-come. You don’t have to be an experienced

quilter or even a quilter to join us. We will be happy to share our knowledge and love of

quilting with you. For more information con-tact: Carole Gilberti at [email protected].

HELLO, HAMPTON GRANDPARENTS Anyone who has helped the Hampton Educational Foundation raise money for our student scholarship fund automatically becomes on “honorary grandparent” to these kids. Each semester the students receiving scholarships send in a report of their grades, classes they are taking next semester and a letter telling us about their college experience. Here’s a part of a letter we received recently where the student addresses a very timely issue, just reminding us that today’s students are our hope for the future:

Dear Hampton Grandparents, Hello everyone!. The year is almost over, and I thank God for letting us see another year. First semester of my second year completed, one semester to go! I am very excited for the plans coming up in this upcoming year of 2020. In April/ May, I plan on applying to nursing schools and programs around back home and around Tampa, and with acceptance I plan on starting Fall 2020. My top choice currently is Polk State College, as their nursing program is well recommended and accredited, and suits my needs and interests. I wanted to share my plans with you all, because you mean so much to me, and I wouldn’t had been able do it without you guys, so thank you so much! As stated previ-ously, I have continued to seek interest in the Public Health domain, as a majority of my classes were public health classes this semester. My favorite class this semester was Introduction of Infection Control, where I learned about how one can find diseases in the littlest objects, and how easily dis-ease can spread on a public health level. I have decided to take an Epidemiology class this upcoming semester to learn more about diseases and how they affect individuals. (Jenica Louis, Class of 2018)
