This week’s theme is:
“Respecting Girls -
Respecting Boys”
Dress for the Weather
I visited a school once and the children were outside at recess playing even though the playground was covered in snow. I asked the teacher on duty about this and she replied that there is no such thing as bad weather, just poor clothing. While we don’t expect snow in Nathalia, the weather has taken a turn for the worse lately with winter coming a little early. I noticed while on yard duty the other morning before school that some children are only wearing shorts and polo shirts even though it was about five degrees. Children need to rug up for the colder weather and make sure they have a school jumper or jacket to wear. At playtimes coats and beanies might be required as the temperature drops. The classrooms are well heated and comfortable but we don’t want to see children cold at playtimes. Please ensure your children are dressed with the weather conditions in mind. New School Furniture
We have placed an order for new tables, chairs and lockers for Miss Inglis’ and Miss Routledge’s classrooms. The furniture will replace the desks and chairs that have been in those rooms for about 15 years. The new furniture is more comfortable and practical for the children and will enhance teaching and learning. We expect the furniture to be delivered within the next five weeks. Mother’s Day
We had a fantastic response to the Mother’s Day morning tea and the gift stall that was held later in the day. The Parents’ Club should be very happy that their hard work was rewarded with such enthusiasm by the children and parents. NAPLAN Tests
This week the children in grades 3 and 5 have been completing the NAPLAN tests. These tests not only provide a snapshot of an individual student’s understanding in literacy and numeracy but also we establish trend data indicating how the school is travelling in these areas over a period of time. NAPLAN is one of the many ways that we assess student achievement. Teachers derive data from several tests over the school year so that we can accurately reflect your child’s level of understanding and to enable us to judge how to teach to the needs of the individual. R ACV Energy Breakthrough
Nathalia Primary School is once again
entering a team in the pushcart section of the
RACV Energy Breakthrough which runs in
Maryborough from Thursday, November 19th
to Sunday, November 22nd.
Even though it seems a long time
before we go there are many things to do
before we get there.
This year’s team of Charli, Jakara,
Aiden, Jason, Daniel, Archie, Devon, Cody and
Jai-Dee are very excited as we have a big
brother, an ex-student and an ex-RACV team
member in Josh Dorrity who is going to help
the students build a new cart.
The students are currently writing
letters looking for sponsorship to help get the
team to Maryborough. As well as the entry
cost of $250 we need to raise money to cover
the costs of building a new cart, team uniform,
and accommodation in the caravan park at
Maryborough.
If there is anybody who would like to
help sponsor our team it would be greatly
appreciated.
Jeanette Hill,
Coordinator.
